how do you people buying this stuff get over the noise of the fans? and how often do you have to exchange the fans?
i buy only hardware with speed-to-noise ratio near infinity.
but you know, a few layout details and other minor things don't make anyone of the average (dummy) users to switch. why should they? browsers are like commodity these days - everyone can built one but at the end they are all the same. for ordinary users with max 3 tabs opened its enough. they dont need extensions and stuff.
i never said that IE is better.
i am just trying here to look at the reason why microsoft releases this bad 'perfect' IE browsers. are they saving money because they already lost the war for best browser?
I don't think average users care much for performance issues. They are usually on slower connections, don't have many tabs opened, and waste more time trying to figure out where to click next. For simple user who probably doesn't read very fast and doesn't have practice in navigating quickly through web pages is loading speed not very important. And for them it just makes no sense bothering installing some other browser because IE is already there and works for their needs. Its the perfect customer for microsoft - they don't need to have the best browser, its enough for them to have just any usable browser which is not falling behind that much. IE is perfect (even if not for us geeks) if its development was not expensive.
Windows from the user interface (UI) perspective is crap in comparing to osx and thats what matters for me the most. I have been using dos, windows, linux and finally switched to mac not because I dont know how to set things right but just because I no longer want to waste time setting anything up.
However windows xp I have to use in work is not bad from the maintenance perspective (administrators cares, not me) but UI is just not that good. It takes me more time to do simple things than on my desktop at home - drag'n'drop just works.
I agree with the things you wrote concerning GPUs. But what I want is not just to replace GPU but replacing CPU, the cooler or anything I want - which is not possible in apple's machines without breaking warranty (or is it?). I have huge heatsink on my CPU, I have fanless PSU, etc...(I use my pc from the living room)... from this standpoint, apple's hardware is not good.
so its a pity they didn't release their os for generic machines.. but they are getting there. I will happily pirate mac os x86 till then and apple won't get a dime. and I am not sorry:) I don't feel like I should be.
i dont care about apple experience. i agree that running osx on some ee pc is ridiculous but for example using it installed on some generic desktop computer does perfectly makes sense. i wouldn't trade my perfectly tuned rig for any crappy mac hw. my rig is way cheaper, more silent, easily upgradable etc...
i really love my osx and i really hate apple's marketing (necessary evil).
I am using core2duo with Thermaltake Sonic Tower (i was cooling amd xp cpu with this before). those two fans are almost silent - they rotate slowly just to direct the heat flow. i think i can turn them off but sometimes its just too hot in the room. good solution is to underclock your cpu just to be cool enough.
one should get some other gpu than my very hot nvidia one
but the nice case cooling i was talking about is something like Zalman TNN-300... and it is really incredibly expensive!
you can buy everything you wrote but the price is high for some parts and its a little complicated to build. i use ordinary computer case with only 2 slowblowing fans and its really quiet now. i use biggest heatsink for cpu, passive psu, gpu,mb cooling. they should start making some advanced cases which have some sort of wiring for internal components and a disipate the heat efficiently into space. well, i have seen exactly this but the price was horrible.
If you are using windows 95 and you are perfectly happy then I guess you are 80 years old and have never even touched unix. Or there is something else wrong. Anyways, take your pill and go to sleep, there is some happy DOS user waiting in queue for my next comment.
burn down wallmart, its evil! just ask rubbermaid.
i hope it will be soon that everybody will buy movies online and skip another part in the chain of greediness.
the point of donating is clear. but why not make it a system where people can get registered and get some password which would identify the work done by their computers and got paid?
the measure how much the cpu has done could be measured easily i think - lets say that in such an environment the data to be computed is divided into some smaller pieces each worth some amount of money for solution.
the problems could certainly be many, lets name a few - hackers could abuse large networks for processing power and resell to google - however, this should be detectable. there should also be some mechanism to verify the authenticity of the computed solution so that hackers wont trick the system to believe they did solve the piece of problem.
the pros of such system is that everyone can obviously easily pay for their power bill or even earn some small money. on the other hand everyone can run their (modified) software for not really huge money on a global internet super cluster.
in such a network there could be listed thousands of project where you can also donate you cpu for free. or just make priorities where you want to donate or sell....and yes, stealing your employer's power should be illegal - it might just be hard to detect...
well i think google should come here and join their paypal rivaling system of payments with some distributed computing software which would earn money for users running computations on their hardware for big bussiness companies paying. i would say that this would earn big bucks to everyone - and google will rule the world! its such a waste of money running computers at 0% cpu speed.
i just hope for someone to send me some money for bringing this new idea to the world:)
for that much money, are you crazy?! i'll buy a new harddrive instead of wasting my money on the first generation of these discs which are for sure easily scratched and would last readable for just a couple of years... - or should i say months?
This would imply the world were information is finally the most valuable thing a man can have! Everybody would be happy, especially the smart ones:) The true revolution of information! Yup!, another Star Trek utopia and every philosophers true-hearted vision.
Does anybody think that we will as the whole mankind (as we know it today) survive till this point?
Lets have a great hope, patience and will!

Stop the war on drugs! and bring the price of drugs to reasonable level so mafia would have no profit.

yup, i am using it for about a year and it works great
