It's a city. There are restaurants and stores within walking distance of work. This isn't some office park where the Mickey Dee's is a mile drive away.
Start requiring companies to enforce a 40-hour week or pay overtime. Require a sane amount of time for lunch, so employees have TIME to go out, go for a walk, etc without having to wolf something down at the company store... I mean caf.
Why was the DA allowed to defer the case 33 times, in violation of his right to a speedy trial? Because America, and the Constitution doesn't apply unless you're rich.
Hasn't this stuff been on Bittorrent for years? That's like trying to put a genie back in a bottle. If you don't want to see it, don't search for it on a Bittorrent search engine named after a harbor for rogue sailors.
Also, it's not as if diagrams of firearms aren't in every encyclopedia and "How Things Work" book. Might need to ban libraries and machine tools too.
I don't personally care for guns, but this order is a bit of a silly joke.
No, but mass demonstrations where some inconvenience is caused are fine. So are general strikes that cause inconvenience. Protests SHOULD be inconvenient, otherwise they often fail to get their point across.
Believe it or not, the Coast Guard was sent to the Middle East during the Iraq war. It also fights drug trafficking far outside of US territorial waters. Domestically, it's turned from a lifesaving agency into a militarized police force.
Foreign schools are probably the better option. Medical school in France and Eastern Europe is anywhere from free to cheap, even for foreigners.
The system is designed to suck people in. Take some California cities, where a simple traffic ticket can be $500. Most Americans don't have $500 for an emergency. So it spirals into late fees, contempt-of-court charges, maybe an arrest warrant. Whereas a civilized system would allow judges to equalize punishment by basing fines on income.
As far as excessive bail, read about the case of Kalief Browder. Held without trial on suspicion of a crime, for years because he had the temerity not to plead guilty to SOMETHING instead of standing on his Constitutional right to a fair trial. Eventually released, but the experience of imprisonment on Riker's Island damaged him psychologically and eventually lead to his suicide.
I'm not going to weep for a company that treats its workers like crap and serves toxic, chemical-laden obesogenic "food". Frankly, I'd rather the mob and crooked cops have the money than Mickey Dee's keep it...
What's wrong with living a reasonably happy, but not innovative, life, anyway? Why should everything be about rush-rush-rush, run like a rat on a wheel, constant change and turmoil?
But to answer your question... let's see: CRISPR was pioneered in France, high-speed trains, nuclear reactors capable of load-following, basic nuclear physics research (LHC is on the Swiss-French border). Not all innovations involve the Internet or mobile phone fart apps.
Not having enough local storage to save your work locally all the time, and having to rely on "someone else's computer" to store your personal data. I'd say that qualifies as "bad UX."
Eggs are about 25 cents. Snow peas/green beans, onions, garlic, and tomatoes are also cheap. So are rice and potatoes for carbs.
Maybe not $1 per meal, but $2 or $3 is doable. Cheapest isn't always best if it isn't healthy.
Smart people and tech firms are flocking to the SF Bay Area. If anything, it's a victim of its own success.
Not being in a suburban hell that bores the crap out of 20 and 30-somethings of above-average intelligence?

Proposing laws that don't happen to pass isn't a crime. Impeachment generally requires evidence of a crime or gross corruption.
Sterile and clean is frankly boring as well. There needs to be a happy medium.
"Secure building" -- sounds like a nicely appointed prison.

In the USA, they shut down a road or two. In France, they shut down cities when the government does something boneheaded.

Yep. CERN! Though the actual institute is on the Swiss side, not the French.
I do, but that's not its primary purpose.
It also allows your data to be shared with and mined by people/entities whom you DON'T give specific permission to.

Most of the things you say make you sound like an authoritarian, boot-licking ass.

I thought some can run Android apps, which gives them a halfway-decent ecosystem, especially if you can sideload from .apk file.

Because dumbfuck politics. Welcome to New York and the US in general.
