I'm looking for a cheap small sff box with two 3.5 internal drive bays which would allow me to put together a small SOHO NAS solution. I've seen the Buffalotech devices out but they only support 1 PATA drive.
Numbers at http://www.iraqbodycount.net/ are reporting that about 13,000-15,000 Iraqi's are dead. But you all must remember that "The enemy attacked us", according to W.
I knew it!!! HP bought Apple, I knew this was going to happen all along based on information previously on slashdot... I can't believe it took this long, BSD only took a year to die...
Learning and producing are two different things even though they require some degree of thought. New things or processes tend to intriuge people more than doing repetitive or already learned things. You attempt to point out that people learn differently but don't explain how creativity has anything to do with productivity.
ADD is not a black and white diagnosis but it is debilitating to many people. It prevents them from starting and finishing things which could be as simple as drawing a picture or remembering to feed their cat. Ritalin isn't a trend and ADD itself has had exposure in cases with children but research is beginning to show more and more that adults suffer from it too. The key point is "suffer", it's not about creative learning, it's about a hope for some sort of "normal" living where you don't put your keys in the kitchen and spend 30 minutes looking for them because you forgot where you put them.
The point you raise is exactly why Open Source software is not always completely "open". By this I mean that all the man hours put into a project can not be "ported" over to the next best thing as is such with X drivers. Sure you can write a compatibility layer but that isn't ideal.
Don't get me wrong, this is even worse in the closed-source world.
It's safer. A lot of places put their outlets in that way now and one of the electricians wiring a basement for some plugs that were on separate circuits did the same. He said it was the way people are doing things and not only that but if the plug isn't all the way in and something conductive falls on it, it won't short because it'll hit the ground first.
I don't know about you but on my sparc's besides installing GCC, especially in the latest versions of Solaris, I take it as a given I will be compiling Apache to fit my needs. In fact on linux installs I choose not to install things like Apache, PHP and other applications for the same reason.
Of course grabbing the companion cd or downloading gcc and other tools from soldc.sun.com or sunfreeware.com is a little bit of a hassle but it does not take "LONG"
By the way, the target market for Solaris and SPARC has never been desktop users or "hobbyists", it has been corporations. As always, I'm sure you'll find exceptions to the rule...
I've paid for a copy of PanTerra which is more functional and better than ExpertGPS but my question is, when is a Linux version coming out?
As you can see, the person submitting the comment was complaining about the limited GPS software out there for Linux so aside from the plug for your product, any plans to work more with the opensource community?
Sounds like a great spirit of trust and loyalty between both parties. True there are slimey people out there but then again, so are a lot of the employers.
Where I work you don't have to sign an agreement stating that the company can monitor phone calls and in addition to that, I believe it is unlawful to do so without such agreement. There's a good reason it's against the law too.
While I understand that a computer is company resources, I believe that responsible use should be acceptable and big big brother should not be there listening.
Blocking or intercepting email is more or less the same as listening in on a phone conversation. Yes, I know this horse has been beaten to death here but it's still ridiculous.
If you're not allowed to make personal phone calls then I can understand them not allowing or even monitoring personal computing use but for communications, email should be a protected medium.
Factually, does he know why his album isn't selling well?
I would agree with the majority of the posters here is that it's not his audience that's the problem, it's his album itself.
It seems by making comments about his album sales not doing so well due to the fact that his fans/audience don't want to pay for his music and would rather steal seems like he's shooting himself in the foot.
Don't piss on the people who made you. If you screw up (produce an album that doesn't hit the top of the charts), make something better.
Are we likely to see more and more people blame their crappy album sales on piracy? Of course, it's not fun to take responsibility for your work if it sucks.
This article doesn't look like it's been listed here in the comments but if it has forgive me.
Here's a quote: "If these forecasts are true, most small webcasters would have to shut down, and Web radio would walk the same dreary path of corporate consolidation as commercial FM."
Given what I've read about UnitedLinux -- especially in regards to per seat licensing I highly doubt they intend to do heavy marketing to the existing Linux community, in particular home users.
I haven't read much of the specifics but I don't believe that Linux is segmented by a "business" and "home user" category. A lot of the existing linux community uses linux at home AND at work.
The whole thing is that the community is what got Linux where it is today and by not building binary distros, well that is the decision of the companies but by not giving this back to the community, they are doing a disservice. We aren't talking about a "desktop environment" or a Red-Carpet type service a la Ximian, we're talking a distro.
Why alienate those who helped make the bricks you're using to build your house?
Power? I didn't know 20watts of power equated to a $10-$15USD price difference in your powerbill. I'm sure you use candles at home because 1 60watt bulb costs $30-$45 to run a month.
So really... What percentage of the cost is 55CDN/30USD? An AMD and Intel MSI based motherboard runs about $65-$70USD on pricewatch, $81USD for an Athlon XP 1600+, $129USD for a P4 1.6 and buy a 256MB stick of DDR for $75USD so what you get is ~$226USD for AMD vs. ~$274USD for P4.
About 20% cheaper. So by my numbers you save ~$50USD. When you're talking about 20% difference, it makes a difference.
Flame away.

I think not. As you can see, people find out the truth whether you like it or not. Releasing false information or misleading investors gets you into MORE trouble not LESS. Yeah yeah yeah, accounting is shading but again, that's why so many companies have restated their earnings and reported losses, not gains.
Stop slinging the FUD. Like someone else said, you can't compare them to Enron. Wake up. This stuff is getting rather old. Everyone is having a tough time being profitable and I don't believe "opensource" is the reason why RedHat is struggling. You name the company, products and services that were selling well in 97-00 are no longer doing that well. EMC and Sun which used to be very profitable at what they did are having to switch gears. Cisco is having it's share of problems. Software or hardware everyone is struggling and Opensource companies are still trying to figure out how to make a profit on a service model.
Folks this isn't news and really doesn't need to be argued over but Opensource isn't the next "Dot com bubble" that is going to burst. Opensource, Redhat, whatever... everything is having trouble right now. Let's not make this out to be more than it really is.
Sun never needed to answer to Intel's 64bit cpus. Sun corners a market that Intel has not even begun to penetrate yet.
Just the fact that Sun and Alpha have been doing 64bit years illustrates that fact.
Also there is a little bit of a misconception here. They perform drastically different because of the SMP bus architecture and just the fact that it's CISC vs RISC etc.

In the state of the internet with advertising revenue down substantially, where are many of the sites that are struggling to survive themselves going to come up with these funds?
I work at a newspaper and we've just recently scrapped the whole Avantgo feed idea because they want to charge content producers to deliver their feed.
Everyone knows that nothing is free and someone should pay for this, it should hardly be Avantgo but it's too much with too little work.
IMO a successful model would be for Avantgo to do some of the legwork and go out there and promote themselves instead of relying on all the content producers to fill the trough. It's a double burden because first you have to pay for a service and then you have to find some way to get substantial traffic numbers there so perhaps ads can pay for it.
I think Avantgo even though they do a lot of corporate business is going to lose a lot of the people who thought it was a cool service. Avantgo should be charging the people who download and give a percentage to the content producer. It's a win win situation that way. This is the way the internet is moving, why not try to embrance and not abandon?
