Perhaps US is one of the very few countries today that it is relatively easy for an individual to test or launch a rocket without getting government interference/harassment. Try to do this in a country like China, you and your family will most likely disappear the next day.

My manager was OK with it, he even submitted the request to HR, who then submitted it to his boss for approval. His boss had an issue with it, and came to me and said, "If you think you need additional education, you're not as sharp as we need you to be." and then, since Texas is an at-will state (as in, they can fire you, at will, for any reason any time), I was summarily dismissed.

I'm sure this happens everywhere. I read your post as Insightful, not Funny. Your WHOOOSH was just disappointing.

I'm very sorry to hear your experience, and I live and work in Texas...

Texas has a continuous education requirement for the licensed professional engineer. So if you want to keep your license, you need to take certain amount of course/training each year. If your employer doesn't recognize the importance of that, then they are not aware of the state requirement for engineers as well as not understand the requirement to retain talent. In either case just be glad you don't work for that company anymore. Any legitimate firm who value engineers (at least to some levels) will take that as a good reason not to work for a previous employers.

Do you really want to play a game of "lets pick and choose what we call an act of war"?

That's the choice of trade-off only a president can make. Choose to nab Osama with a huge risk of alienating another nation that's already pissed-off at us? Sure. Choose to send send a missile into a strategically important country not at war with? Not really worthwhile.

I got no problem with you trying to paint Warren Buffet as having personal agenda, however unclear it is (we know Soros political standing pretty well) to others. Working as an Industrial Automation Engineer I can tell you the pays aren't bad, to say the least. It is hard to find some good, competent people, and KEEP them. You have to know how to code, understand the process, which has direct consequence to the real world, and be able to work with people. I have seen a lot of not-so-good self-proclaimed control-automation specialist that don't know what they are talking about. Usually after the first assignment you know where their competency stands.
