Really it's a non-issue. A couple of clicks and you're using the search engine of your choice anyways. I downloaded the ubuntu 10.4 beta the other day just to play with, and was mildly surprised that Yahoo came up as the default search engine. I spent all of 5 seconds thinking it must be some financial/political thing that I hadn't heard about, then changed it to Google. Most people savvy enough to use Linux can figure out how to change the settings in Firefox to what they want. People that don't know how, probably won't care, or are to busy wondering why the hell their computer guru son installed this damned weird OS on their computer to notice.
No, I don't at all feel persecuted in any way. I don't think anyone is out to get me. Do you understand now? I'm pointing out that in the political spectrum in the US the press corp is left leaning. I'm not saying there is some main stream media monster that is out to suppress the poor right wing. I don't watch fox, I don't watch CNN, I frankly don't watch TV much at all, I get my news from a wide variety of domestic and foreign news websites, and after reading a lot of diverse opinion, I make up my own mind. So you stereotyping me with some preconceived class of people that you have seen from time to time saying whateverthefuck is wrong. Take that as you will.
And frankly, there was no need for you to be such a prick from the get go. Just jump right out there, stereotype someone, put a bunch of words in his mouth about persecution and right wing angst that was never there, and call him an idiot. I can't imagine you have many friends in real life with that sort of personality. Jack ass.
How so? I'm not a republican and don't vote for them. It is however. quite clear that on overwhelming percentage of reporters are left leaning. It's no conspiracy, it's just that, as a profession, it draws people with certain ideologies. Much like you don't find many students in the school of business that aren't right leaning.
Polls of news staff find self identification as left leaning to be something in the range of 80%.
No, it's just that with a press corps that overwhelmingly identifies with the Democratic party, the excesses of Republicans are more likely to be investigated and reported on.
How do I clearly not care about others' IP? By saying a hardware manufacturer isn't responsible for what an individual does with the hardware he bought from them? I was pointing out that by following that logic, Apple is responsible too because the emulator is running on their hardware. The controller itself isn't being used for piracy, and it obviously has another use besides with pirated roms, or Apple would have never ripped it off, would they have?
So your reason for rooting for the big corporation to stomp on the little guy is that the little guy failed to used the badly broken patent system to protect their idea from the corporate behemoth? When said behemoth has a full time staff of patent attorneys, and the little guy is probably just some start up with engineers that foolishly thought they could just make cool stuff and sell it without having a patent attorney on staff?
Clearly. Anyone that could hook a WoWer/slashdoter up with an actual girl has the skills to accomplish anything. Though lets go higher than Starcraft....how about world peace?
What we could use here is a setting on the mail client that just ignores any CC in the email and only sends it to the "to" field. We have this one jackass that has an elevated opinion of himself and likes to CC the managers and bosses unnecessarily in order to "scare" people into doing his pet projects that are, for the most part, unnecessary, could be taken care of with a quick conversation if he'd get off his ass and do his job, or unimportant to the people being CCd. The other day one of the head guys came in and asked me WTF this guy was obsessing about in regards to an extended email exchange over some dumb shit that no one cared about, but that he was CCing half the company on. I explained to him that it was some unimportant detail that the guy could have taken care of the day before by getting off his ass and doing his job, and got told to just ignore him from now on. Ah, the wonders of technology.
Two different uniforms? Nope.....the other side doesn't wear uniforms. And that is what makes identification and distinguishing them from civilian targets so difficult. Kinda why they have the whole thing about uniformed combatants in the Geneva convention-- to prevent civilian casualties.
Great analogy. The British empire went from being the most powerful nation on earth to being a deeply in debt and barely able to militarily confront 3rd world nations. And that transition took place in just a few decades.
But, knowing Hollywood, they'll just pretty much redo the same story (without any of the depth), but younger and sexier with more action and lots of stuff blowing up.
Two other countries for 3-4 years, and visited several more for shorter periods. And yeah, the red tape might be a fuck story, but the actual qualifications to immigrate are far more lenient.
And it's particularly difficult if there is a large underclass of people willing to work without benefits and at substandard wages because their illegal status prevents them from garnering the same protections from exploitation that legal residents of the country have.
Don't be a tool. Freedom is not lawlessness, and even at that "more freedom" does not mean "absolute freedom" or anarchy. Funny how you quote part of the constitution and then utterly fail to apply it in your later statements about freedom supposedly being lawlessness. What part of "promote the general welfare" don't you understand? The protection of citizens' freedoms is quite clearly elucidated in the constitution.
Perhaps we should adopt the same policy that Mexico has in regards to legal immigration?
Mexico operates a strict immigration policy which seeks to protect the interests -- especially the job interests -- of its own citizens. You will need to prove an income from a foreign company or have specialized skills to be granted leave to live and work in Mexico.

Oh, and go fuck yourself.

With a level 70? Hah! Tell the noob to get of her ass and make 80!

Bi? On slashdot? So you can't get dates with either women or men?
Freedom to pack up your toys and leave to go do your own thing elsewhere isn't democracy unless you change the meaning of the term.
Great analogy. The British empire went from being the most powerful nation on earth to being a deeply in debt and barely able to militarily confront 3rd world nations. And that transition took place in just a few decades.
Yeah, talk to the Spanish or the British about how well that all worked out for them.

I mean, if anyone knows about viruses, it'd be Microsoft.
Well, not all chicks would be interested.
OTOH, I'm pretty sure I'm not really qualified to even have an opinion.
You must be new here.

The truth of the matter is, US immigration policy is far more lenient than most countries in the world
Senators people? Frankly, I don't think Nancy Pelosi is even from this galaxy.
