Something you should realize is that very large parts of California are quite conservative. Outside of LA and SF-Bay area, and some coastal counties, it's pretty much a red state. The population in those cities are what drives California to pretty much always go left-- that, and being gerrymandered to hell and back.
I grew up in Texas, in a town that was conservative by Texas standards, and even at that I don't think any sort of "controversy" about evolution was ever brought up in high school. Most of the argument you were subjected to where probably from attitudes acquired in the home or church, not school. That said, it was much later in life, when I was living in California and working on a masters in Cellular and Molecular biology that I first had a discussion with a fundamentalist christian about evolution. The discussion ended rather abruptly after the guy pulled out an argument that was somehow supposed to show that the 2nd law of thermodynamics made evolution impossible. I'd never heard the argument (turns out it's a staple of these evolution deniers), and my response to him was basically "OK, well all that you've managed to show me is that you have absolutely no understanding of the 2nd law of thermodynamics."
Good for you. Just realize that most people don't share your interest, and that MMORPGs based on what you're looking for don't do well. You can get that sort of fix on FPSes without the monthly fee.
IE on a server install is locked up tightly. You know, to let you know that you shouldn't be surfing the web on your server anyways, what with security issues and the like. Do a google search for "2008 server as a workstation" to find some helpful tutorials for turning that security off.
I have to say, I've never had anything but helpful interactions with people in the Linux community. Though I did get laughed at on IRC back in 1996, when, after spending a week getting Linux installed on a Pentium 150 machine and getting my DSL connection to work with it, I asked if there was an "easy" way of installing apps. Guess I deserved that one.
Amazing how people fail to realize this. I mean the Nazis were crazy syndicalist-socialists with a penchant for psuedo-scientific race theories and mystical Teutonic nationalism, yet they always get described as "right wing". Economically and socially they were pretty far "left" in a lot of their policies.
Or maybe that she's full of shit and doesn't like to admit her choice is about fashion and not utility. Being the IT guru for an extended family, in the last few years I've given purchase advice for the laptops of about 8 college bound students. All of them wanted Macs, and the reason was because they were a premium brand and status symbol. None of them had any idea about the differences in the operating systems or what applications where available. At least one of them uses windows pretty much exclusively on his.
Money and fame? In science? WTF you been smoking? Most scientists get paid fuck all, work long hours, and even the top ones in their field are mostly unknown to most everyone but their others that work in the same field.
Seriously, what kind of idiot, in this economy, embarrasses the hell out of his company with a statement to reporters that goes against 20 years of PR?
Not everything is a slippery slope. You never know, the HR person might just have thought it was funny.
Oh, I wouldn't say he got angry. But he did get flustered and walk off.
Yeah, no doubt, but we see that in blue states as well. Note the Dover, Delaware trial from a few years ago.

Just so long as Natalie Portman does those sequels as well.
Apple should use this as a marketing campaign. "Too stupid to use a regular computer? Well are computers are DESIGNED for stupid!"

Seeing "your an idiot" never fails to bring a smile to my face. Thanks for making my day just that much brighter.

Well, at least TJ could put a decent sentence together.
I take it as a matter of pride the our ancestors were kicked out of every decent country in the world. The sheep stayed behind.
That would have to be one charming mother fucking cat.
Yes, but I believe that there is a law about interfering with them, especially if on their way to a vote.

You're saying he should expect a free blowjob?
Well, maybe we can find some funds from the stimulus bill to do the actual "hands on" research.
Well, NASA didn't expect them to last this long, so they long ago ran out of spare change.
I don't know if you've noticed, but that stuff leaves streaks if you don't clean it right away.
Ah, but even though we didn't RTFA, they probably included it as "consumed" data, thereby inflating that average.
In a row?
