That's exactly what happened to me!

I got DoomIII, and was all geared up for it, but after a while it was just filler. Sure moving those barrels around with that cargo gripper was pretty spiffy, but once I hit "Hell" and was just shooting dead babies.. it sort of fell apart.

Now I'm being presured to get HL2, but from the recent dissapointments, my motivation to shell out the cash just hasn't been there.

And then I look at awesome indie games. For example one of my all time favorites is Elasto Mania. I swear I've lost months of my life from swinging ledge to ledge with my front tire. This stuff reminds me that a game can rock, even when it doesn't have music!

What about the great glory of uncompressed high resolution 24/32/64/XYZ bit audio?

Has anybody even thought of the possibility of someday actually using a medium that requires uncanny amounts of space, because the recording actually records the physical calculations of a drum stick hitting a snare through the friction of air and travelling to your ear?

Sure nobody really talks about "Super Audio Compact Disc" because its "elite" format that has little equipment to playback and a really bizarre selection of titles to purchase, but it's something I could give as a present and feel estatic to recieve for a gift.

It might not even be a laser-disc in the future, but whatever the massive storage medium it WILL require, If you can make it a collectors edition, and put it in a leather bound case with air-tight seals and holographic/print/data embedded pamphlet insert of the artist's entire creative process & world, then I choose the real world medium.

Downloading is an alternate method of transportation. One that exists like spandex exists in the same world as silk.

I am guessing that RTFA means Read The Featured Article. I think that this article is not so cut & clear as people would like to think. Sure it's a checkpoint verification for the legal system in Australia, and many international bodies, but it will not solve the problem. It only CHECKS the problem. And sure, people can go to jail for failing or financially punished to meet these checkpoints, but it does not solve the problem. It mearly caps it.

I look at what North American culture molds our future generation's minds toward; Toward the ideal that youth is next to immortality. The media industry pushes this. The Fashion industry pushes this. The consumer product industry pushes this.

So much force towards these ideals is bound to apply presure on what people WANT and what people DO.

Japanese porn culture has a tendancy to suggest rape-ish scenarios. Why? Because it is one of the ultimate deviations from a conformed society. It is an Ultimate Bad. But is it rape? Maybe.. Maybe not; Could be acting. But people buy it, watch it, use it.

In order to remove these problems, you have to remove the forces that make them. The cause of the child-porn may even source 2 generations back. The creator of the porn was abused as a child, by his father who drank too much, and thusly has been mentally altered to do such acts again. Will the father of the creator of the child-porn be convicted? Probably not.

It's good that there is effort to keep child-porn rings to a minimal, but they will not go away. These by-products of society are so complicated & diverse that nobody can give a 1 2 3 4 solution.

I understand that this move is to thwart any malicous or possibly lethal uses of this technology, but is denying a patent of this type the best solution?
