  1. Why is it even needed? on Liberty Alliance Gains Momentum · · Score: 1

Why is a one signin thing even needed? Why cant you just enter in your information when you _need_ to and for _only_ the company you want to. You know, the thing people have been doing long before Passport existed.

We know stuff in /sbin and /bin are required for most systems' operation, /usr/sbin is system management and secure tools (sometimes, I think), /usr/bin for common apps, /usr/local/bin for local binaries, etc.

In theory, I could nfs export /usr/bin, /usr/sbin, /bin, /sbin and let other machines of the same type mount it and have only system specific stuff in /usr/local. Thats some of the intention behind this setup...

They know their responsibilities, they know how to provide services and support, while still giving back to the community.

Have you looked at how much RedHat has contributed back? Last time I checked, they host projects like cygwin, gdb, etc and have turned important apps like anaconda and even rpm (as much as people say it sucks, but it is the most popular package manager out there) back into the community.

I know for a fact I will never implement something like that on my web servers... It goes against what the internet was created for - free exchange of information in a reliable manner.

Point 3. I run the SBL (Summit Blocking List @ www.2mbit.com). Its my choice to block spam and who can contact my server. Its the choice of the ISP where I work to block spam, so I used my existing service as part of the mail systems there. The spam we get into our network gets blocked much quicker now, and others can benefit from our lists. Last time I checked, you aren't forced to buy services from me, or use the SBL.

This reminds me of good ol' Internet Frontier (www.internet-frontier.net). They absolutely love to attack me at this point. Hell, I'm proud to be double Skulled. I care enough about my network, my bandwidth, and my systems to want to do something.

#2 If people make such a big stink that Microsoft has to fix the bug in order to make itself look like its actually doing something (and even then, it has a hidden motive).

#3 If it allows people to bypass their precious ELUA
