Does this remind anyone else of Paperdisk? Paperdisk

  2. Instead of a speed increase at the same price... on PowerBooks & iBooks Get Speed Bumped · · Score: 5, Interesting

Why does Apple never drop the price of current hardware instead? I would love a 700mhz Powerbook for $600 or so (no thanks, refurbed units).

  5. Rights on Stop Cell Phones Without Stopping Pacemakers... · · Score: 0, Flamebait

Although I agree that there should be places where one should not use a phone, what right do you have to take away any of my legal rights? There are no laws that state I cannot place or receive a cell phone call out on the street or in a theatre for that matter. The ban on smoking here in NYC is different (whether or not I agree with it is another matter). This is analogous to someone walking up to you, taking your lit cigarrette from your lips and grinding it dead with their shoe. If I am paying for cellular service, you better not be denying me of what I paid for.

  6. I have a MM10 on Sharp Debuts New Transmeta-based Laptop · · Score: 3, Informative

I have the older MM10 model, with the transmeta 1GHz. I love the machine though it is not the quickest. The only problem? They seem to be OVERLY dedicate. I had purchased my original last July. After 3 weeks of minimal usage, the screen went bad. Sharp sent me a refurbished unit (though I had paid full price for a new unit just 3 weeks early). About a month ago, the replacement went bad (battery was bad and possibly the charge circuitry went bad as well). They have since sent me a refurbished unit and battery and I've been ok since then. It's a great machine, but you really have watch out for it.

  9. riser cable and amp gauge on Testing Electrical Capacity of New Offices? · · Score: 1
check your actual amp usage using an amp gauge. this will eliminate the guesswork and math involved. what you want to do is turn on your maximum load, check your circuits using your amp gauge and see whether or not your circuits/fuses can support that load.

the other thing you have to remember is, each individual circuit might be able to support the load fine, but your load might be higher than the rating for your riser cable. if you have 10AMPs going on 10 circuits but your riser is only rated for 60AMPs, you're still SOL.

    hire an electrician.

  10. Re:And what's wrong with Outlook? on Next Generation Mail Clients Reviewed · · Score: 5, Insightful

The problem with Outlook is that it is not an email client, but rather an Exhange client. For example, there are plenty of simple IMAP functions Outlook does not support (at least in Office XP version that I mucked around with) such as saving sent mail to an IMAP folder instead of an Exchange folder (This can be hacked to work using a rule, but Outlook in itself cannot do this out of the box).
