the riaa being a corporation and not an arm of the gub'ment (last i checked), i don't understand why all these lawsuits are criminal suits and not civil suits.
where color accuracy really is important, people still use CRT. you just cant get pure black on an LCD screen, and most colors are just washed out compared to CRT.
Verizon Wireless, though with the Verizon name, is a completely different company under completely different management. Verizon sucks, Verizon Wireless sucks much less. They may even not suck.
My girlfriend won a judgement against a restaurant in NYC, after the restaurant lost her belongings in the paid coat check during a party gone bad. She took them to small claims, and they didnt show, so the judged ruled against the restaurant. Now, we went back to the venue, showed them proof of the judgement, and they basically said they wont pay. We have no recourse. The court tells us it's up to us to figure out their bank information for us to collect. Even though they are a cash-accepting business with cash in their registers, we cannot go with a law sheriff to the restaurant and collect from the register.
The court system is useless, and against the little people.
But this has not been offered any company before (ttbomk - to the best of my knowledge), so it is important to point this out to the/. community. Besides, it may interest quite a few people. I know i once wondered if any company would sell an iPod like this.
Yes, Net::OSCAR does exist, but I wanted to point out the modules that connect via TOC, not OSCAR, as OSCAR is not an open protocol. TOC is (was?) an open protocol, as AOL made made the specifications for TOC freely available in 1998 (IIRC).
Yes, there are. But with AOL opening OSCAR, we would have their blessing to create third party clients, not 'hacks'.
Again, it would never happen, but if it did, it would definitely show off AOL's dedication to instant messaging. Bad business practice, good karma. Choose one.
This does not mean that AOL is releasing specs on their OSCAR protocol, which would have been great. AIM, iChat, and ICQ run on OSCAR. OSCAR is proprietary and will continue to be proprietary. If AOL can extend OSCAR for Apple for the purpose of video chatting, they can easily extend OSCAR for other features. TOC is AOL's string based open source protocol - a subset of OSCAR. TOC is free but is limited in features.
What would have been great is if AOL released the specs for OSCAR, AND provided hooks to the protocol to allow various feature extensions. This will never happen, as once OSCAR is opened, there will be a barrage of third party AIM clients that do not show ads.
Even now, is very easy to develope an application to track the online status of AIM/iChat users, using, for example Net::AIM, NET::TOC and other modules.
For the most part, LCD and DLP is better than Plasma. LCD prices are dropping quite a bit, has better quality, and will debug in larger sizes this year. Plasma is intermediary technology - better than fat CRTS and projection TVs but not as good as LCD. While we were all trying to figure out how to create larger LCDs at affordable prices, we needed something in the interim - which ended up being Plasma.
(Projection HDTV is still the undisputed champion as far as image quality goes)
I understand that the typical broadband user has asymmetric use, with the user downloading much more than he is uploading, but WHY, WHY does it cost so much for decent downstream bandwidth? In my opinion, downstream and upsteam bandwidth should cost the same - but maybe it' because of this bad business sense that I am not sunning on a million dollar yacht in the middle of the Pacific right now.
Sometimes I think once people realize what a fast downstream pipe can do for them, that is when broadband will TRULY take off.
dare i say it? this makes transmeta all the more irrelevant. once a cool company with innovative technology, now they are no more than third place runner-up in the processor company race, and falling behind fast.
Wouldn't it make sense it give the iPod vga out and bluetooth and 802.X, then it'll be a Mac Mini killer?
Maybe VGA, bluetooth and 802.X can be part of the cradle, so when you are at home and you plug your iPod in, it becomes your Mac desktop?
If anyone is interested I sell P900s (and other phones). The P900 retails for $889 without activation. I offer it for $775 plus shipping and tax ony to NYS residents.
Email is phones@os5.com if anyone is interested.
anyone care to explain?
it's just how the technology is.

Steve Jobs, who wont have any free time now ...
now if only if i had a computer fast enough to make pearpc usable...
it doesn't matter if WE can hear a difference, if you cannot then it is not worth the money for you, even if money is not an issue as you claim.
Instead of investing in dotcom stock, I bought beer! Now I can cash in on the cans!

PocketSNES, PocketNES, and PocketGnuboy. I do use them everyday on the subway. Good way to play all the games I missed as a kid.

MACS!
If a webcam and python had parts in this movie instead of the really bad actors they hired, it might have been a better movie.

Big deal.

I squeezed a 4D cube into my cubicle. Instant infinite space! Whoot! I can type faster in the fourth dimension.

Though not Linux-based, myHTPC totally rocks.
