Hooboy are you one ignorant lamer. Whoopee, you have ONE email address and ignore spam sent to others. Even the sack that holds the hammers has more smarts than you do.
Hey l4m3r. I have a home computer with its own domain name and fewer than a half dozen valid email addresses. It gets hit with between 30,000 and 120,000 spams to bogus email addresses every day. I have had that domain since usenet days. I am not about to change my fucking email address because of spammers. Not only would it not solve the problem, it would just create more problems trying to get people to use it.
I'd gladly strangle the sunzabitches who generate that spam. Every single one of them is pure unadulterated spam, to accounts that have never ever existed. Sometimes I analyze the stuff, and some accounts get dozens of copies of the same message, as if that will somehow get more results.
And that computer is on dialup because I can't get any better without going to satellite. You want to rethink that nonsense about no strain?
Stick your head out of your mom's basement door. You might find a real world out there. And it wouldn't put any strain on your well being.
I notice you say, "when I worked in USA" and mention negotiating a better contract. This implies that you have a lot more choices than most people. Not everyone has as many skills or is as smart as you. Are we supposed to let the average IQ Wal-Mart worker just get sick and die?
People don't always have a lot of choices in this world. That doesn't make it right for those that do have choices to stick it to those who don't. Those who have choices should take advantage of their skills by doing better, not by taking advantage of those who are less well endowed with brains and luck.
On the one hand, the Big Business In Bed With Government mentality that runs this country wants to avoid any type of national health care. They insist that is a job for the private sector. They shut down Medicaid, medicare, any chance at national health plans. "See," they say, "your employer should provide that. It is not a proper job for government."
So I tell you what... have you ever shopped for an individual health plan? Good god almighty that is expensive! You know how much less it costs when a company buys it for their employees? I swear it stinks. It's as if individuals are subsidizing businesses. It really stinks.
So people try to organize labor unions, like at Wal-Mart, or they try to get full time jobs, like at H-P, in order to get that health care. And guess what? Wal-Mart closes stores rather than deal with unions. H-P hires contractors to do the same work so they can avoid having to pay for health care.
You know, life sucks, but it doesn't have to suck that bad. That's why I applaud lawsuits like this, and consider those lawyers top grade on the morals scale, or at least they have better morals than the politicians and their corporate rulers who don't miss a chance to stick it to people who work for a living.
Please inform me. I was using X on SunOS in 1989. Did it have icons and this page is missing X altogether, or is my memory playing tricks and X hasn't had icons until recently?
For whatever reason, these people have become baffled by the world they live in, and the bible, or koran, or L Ron Hubbard, or whatever, provide something which claims to know all the answers. Never mind that it is inconsistent as hell; "God moves in mysterious ways". They no longer need to think about the big questions, as someone else put it, of Who What Why When Where How. They just put their lives in God's hands and stop thinking. Life is ever so much more comfortable when you don't think.
I have relatives and friends who are fundies. I believe they all have one thing in common: they are baffled and confused by current society moving too fast for them; not just the pace, but also the pace of change. Some of these fundies, IMHO the "good" ones, have benefited from using the bible or the koran as some sort of safe haven, where, when the "hectic" and baffling changes get to them, they can find a safe place to recuperate. By "good", I mean they don't try to impose on others.
Then there are the "bad" ones, who rage and rage about the evil society they think has grown up around them like a fungus. They cannot accept that other people are different. I mean this quite literally. They simply do not have even the concept or a word for the concept that it takes different types of personalities to make the world go round. They see everyone who behaves differently as deviant and the work of the devil. I do mean this literally. Since they haven't got even the concept of different, they are left with seeing differences as pure evil.
These bad fundies are the ones I spit on. I have relatives like that. I have given up trying to even co-exist with them. They are not interested in co-existence with evil people like me any more than they are interested in co-existence with moldy bread or spoiled milk.
I tell you what --- I think the rise in fundies the last few years is temporary. You look back a generation or two, that is people who had contact with the beginnings of the first rapidly changing society, with cars, airplanes, telephones, radio, TV, either personally or via stories from their grandparents. They could see the pace picking up, the gradual quickening, and so the continued quickening does not scare them. Future generations, the ones actually growing up now, see it as natural. The problem is with a generation or two in the middle, who think they have some bizarre vague false genetic memory of a time that existed only in their fantasies, where society was stable, and can only see modern society as being a corruption. They had no gradual start of changes to help them see change as good, and they didn't grow up with the rapid changes of nowadays.
I do believe these fundies will be a shrinking minority soon, a decade or two at the most, and these frenetic attempts at getting the ten commandments into courtrooms and censoring books and movies and everything else -- they are just the tremors of a dying segment of society. Of course, dying things tend to cause havoc around them, and I'd rather they just went away now and quietly, but I console myself with the idea that they are nevertheless the last gasping tremors of a bunch of muddle headed losers who are afraid of independent thought and those who practice it.
Hands up, everybody who remembers when "g++" was a shell script!
Are you going to rob us? At first I thought that was your joke, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder if, being a part of the gcc team, you are inserting insidious code to look for credit card and bank account numbers on the disk during compiles and use steganography to embed them in executables; no one else would know about them, and all you'd need is a robot crawling download pages, looking for binaries with some magic code somewhere...
The little bit of extra disk thrashing during the combined compile and search would never be noticed, and no one looking at compiled machine lanuage ever wonders why it is so odd looking. They just assume it's because of some new fangled optimization.
See, there's a vast uber-wing conspiracy among the internautti to waste the time of hard working productive people like yourself, who have so little time during the day for keeping up to date that they don't have time to read headlines, only stories, and thus when you read the story directly and find you have wasted your time, and then post on slashdot to complain about it, the internautti cackle with glee at another success story.
The answer, of course, is to read the headlines first, not read the stories just because they are available, and not play the internautti's game. Eventually, if such a radical notion spreads far and wide, or even short and narrow, the internautti will be disillusioned and find some other amusement.
In California at least, you cannot legally record a phone call without permission of both parties, or maybe you have to announce it at the beginning and put in that periodic beep.
I personally think it a waste of a law which can't be enforced except as to making it inadmissable in court, and simultaneously wish it were enforceable. As far as I am concerned, that conversation belongs to everyone in the conversation, and they should all have veto over its uses. I really resented Amazon making purchase history available to the general public for sufficiently large domain names; that info belongs to the domain name owner also, and amazon has no right to unilaterally make it public.
This is silly. Every time a new cell phone appears which has features somebody doesn't like, they post another ridiculous rant like yours, as if nobody should ever manufacture something YOU don't want.
Did Jesus die and leave you in charge? Is your name GW Bush by any chance?
And some other idiot moderated your post as insightful. Yeh, right.
First usage was 1000 == grand, as in that sap lost 25Gs on a horse, or the kidnap ransom was 100Gs, etc. G for 1000, M for 1,000,000, and B for 1,000,000,000 were in common use for budgets and gross national products long before some smartass computer guys decided that 2^10 was so close (1024) to 1000 that it was good enough to coopt the idea, which might have been ok until they compounded the error by re-using M, then went on to G.
I applaud the Gi etc standard. It behooves the computer people, who came second, to use their own abbreviations, or as you would say, their own fucking abbreviations. Since they didn't have the fucking common sense to steer clear of the already-used fucking M, I say fuck 'em and make 'em use somebody else's abbreviations, since they have proven themselves incapable of responsibly picking their own.
I have had bank officers tell me to write SEE I.D. on the cards. I have never had threats to confiscate them. I say the rules can't be that all fired important if bank officers, speaking officially for their bank, tell me to use SEE I.D.
The merchant does not add a $20 item and transfer money instantly. It has to go thru the issuing bank, and not instantly, and not without the possibility of chargebacks, and then that merchant will lose his VISA account and be out of business. If you dispute the matter, and they see a pattern of some merchant going bananas with $20 chargebacks, he will be in banana-skin city. The merchant will lose. This is credit cards.
I too sign my cards CHECK I.D. This is accepted practice. Some credit card companies have even recommended it. Stores are SUPPOSED to ask for ID in that case, the point being to see that the photo ID matches my face, and the names match.
I'd like to see some store manager so ignorant as to try to confiscate my credit card because it tells him to to ask for I.D.
This is a credit card. The funds have to be transferred somewhere. The pickpocket has to be registered as a merchant with some bank, and when they get chargebacks, they will simply throw him out and not send him the money. It's not as if he walks by you and suddenly has $20 in his account to buy a nice dinner. He has to wait to the end of the (day, week, month) to get his funds, they have contact info more than just a phone number, and too many people will complain for him to collect any of it.
Even if it were a debit card, I doubt he'd get any of it. You might have to wait a bit to get it back, but the pickpocket wouldn't get any of it.
I mistyped and left out the 'W'.
Musta voted for someone other than Our Dear Leader last election.
(for moderators, especially humorless Republican moderators: This is FUNNY! Trust me.)
It doesn't put any strain on network admins.

Or Carry On Moderating
Or Carry On Regardless Of We've Lost Our Sense Of Fucking Humor
I like your bit about at least marginally so, like the movies. Well done! I say, Carry On, Sir!
I didn't see that movie. I have all the others, except Carry On Columbus, on DVD. But not Carry On Cloning. Where can I get it?
... if you'd posted anonymously.

Why the paltry examples under Solaris? That page seems to imply *nix didn't have icons until way after all the others.

I have an 8 inch floppy. Imagine the hard one!
they're precision made to be airtight.
...
Not so. If they were airtight, they wouldn't have the little filter holes, and they wouldn't have a maximum operating altitude.
But they do have sharp edges
It's called "mold".
That's what inspired me.
Hands up, everybody who remembers when "g++" was a shell script!
