You're a fucking moron who doesn't have a single clue about what this is about.
Facebook, Google, etc. are content providers. It's there business to provide content, and as businesses they can do whatever the hell the want with their own content. You don't like what they're doing? Don't use them.
Comcast, Verizon, etc. are not content providers. The provide the connection and the bandwidth. That is ALL they should be doing, and that is what net neutrality ensures. It prevents these companies from being able to block/filter/limit/throttle traffic to these sites. Why is that important? Because if these ISPs are allowed to do so then they are free to whatever they want to the data flowing over there lines. They could block or double charge for content. They could come up with services and then raise the price for similar services so that they could underprice their competitors. They could block all content regarding a particular candidate. They could block all sites with unfavorable reviews. And there'd be absolutely nothing you could say or do about it because in most of America these companies have defacto monopolies.
THE FIRST AMENDMENT ONLY APPLIES TO THE GOVERNMENT. I wish people would get that through their fucking heads. Corporations have absolutely ZERO obligation to allow free speech, and that goes for ISPs. If you give them the power over the internet, they can do whatever the hell they want to to pursue the biggest profits, including censoring everything and anything they don't like.
Giving the ISPs power to control what information flows over their lines is one huge step towards corporate fascism and is the wet dream of the current neo-fascists in the White House and Congress. It would grant them the most powerful propaganda machine in history, which is why they are pushing so hard and so fast on this. They want this in place before the mid-term elections,
ISPs should provide connectivity and bandwidth. ISPs should NOT be telling me what I can and cannot access.
It is a tactic. Straight out of Goebbels's playbook. The head of the FCC is using Trump's tactics of lying and threats so that he can ensure total corporate control of information. The first amendment doesn't apply to corporations, so they can censor, filter, block whatever the hell they want.
Anyone want to take a wild guess what happens after that?
Is anyone really surprised? Did anyone honestly not see the parallels between the Great Orange Hitler and the original?
One of the keys of Hitler's rise to power was the control of information. We now have the head of the FCC drawing upon "fake news" and "alternative facts" to push an agenda to give absolute control of information to a handful of major corporations. Once given, these corporations will be able to filter and manipulate any information flowing through them to their own gain. They'll be able to favor candidates, block news sites, charge ridiculous amounts of money for services, and it will all be perfectly legal.
It's the perfect end-around of the first amendment. The government can't do anything in regards to freedom of speech, but no such stipulation exists for companies. And without net neutrality, those neo-fascists pricks that run the big ISPs can censor and filter and push whatever they like. They'll be able to freely block candidates that don't support their agenda. They can censor out videos and information they don't like. And if you try to work around their restrictions they'll label you as a criminal or a terrorist.
This is what these assholes have been dreaming of for years; corporate fascist control of information ensuring that only their candidates remain in power. You'll see, hear, and read only what they want you to. The US will develop it's own great firewall so that all of those "bad influences" don't get in. It'll be done "for your protection". It will be done "for our freedoms". And just like Hitler's Germany, the people will cheer this on as the last vestiges of democracy are destroyed.
Anyone want to take any bets when the modern day equivalent of the Reichstag is going to take place?
Expecting capitalists companies to self-regulate for the greater good is like expecting opiod addicted parents to self-regulate for the good of their kids.
This shit reminds me of health insurance. Every time it was brought up, every single fucking time over the past 50 years, the response was "Don't worry, we'll fix it". And every time, they didn't fix it. It got worse and worse. Until it got so bad the government had to step in but the insurance companies still paid their cretinous little trolls to ensure that would fuck up as well.
Now they're going to do it to the internet. Keep winning Trumpsters. Just keep winning.
Actually, rolling back net neutrality might be a good thing. Think about it. People are saying we're becoming zoned into all of our devices. We're always online, we don't talk to people anymore, so on and so forth. I think this is exactly what's needed to get us back to real socializing.
So let the big ISPs start treating the internet like cable. Let them charge $20 for acces to facebook, $50 for access to netflix, etc. Internet access is already ridiculously expensive when compared to other developed countries, and this will just make it more expensive. With the middle and lower classes being treated like a coastal village in a Viking raid, there won't be many who will put up with it.
I'll miss the internet. It was great while it lasted. But the second they let corporations rub their fetid greedy taints on it that was the beginning of the end. Now with a full blown cast of neo-fascist corporate kleptocrats in charge, it really is only a matter of time before it's destroyed in the name of profits.
Tired of winning yet Trump voters? Just wait until they pass their precious tax plan and they shove that big ol' rusty spiked dildo straight up your ass. Since none of them can do math, it will be especially precious to hear all the bitching about that when they finally realize just how much they're getting screwed with that deal.
The magma plumes have been there for thousands of years, and contribute milliwatts of heat to the base of the ice. That has nothing to do with the increased average surface temperatures that have been melting it from above. If you had the reading comprehensions of a sixth grader you could have picked that up from reading the actual research papers on the topics.
They're posting this crap on a tech site, and they expect people to actually buy into it?
This is advertising bullshit. There is nothing about ZT that would prevent ISPs from throttling the shit out of it, or banning the traffic altogether. That's assuming that ZT would even have the capacity to deal with the traffic in the first place, which they don't.
It doesn't matter what kind of gateway you're running. ISPs can throttle/block any point of entry they want without net neutrality. If you run over their lines, they can bend you over and no amount of of garbage like this will help.
Precisely. You don't have to use Google, or Facebook, or any other website. Once your online, you can go to the most obscure website you want.
However, in a lot of places around the US, you HAVE TO use Comcast. Or Verizon. Or whoever else has the local monopoly on your lines. Without net neutrality, THEY get to tell you what you can or cannot access. Or more likely, they'll charge you to access the content. Instead of getting a bill for $100 dollars for your bandwidth, it will look more like this:
Bandwidth Charge: $100 Google Access: $10 Facebook Access: $10 NetFlix Access: $20... Total Bill: $475
Comcast and the other assholes want your internet bill to look like your cable bill, and they want that at both ends of the pipe. They want to charge not just for the bandwidth, but everything that flows over it. Every website, download, image, and tweet. They want to be able to charge you hundreds to thousands of dollars for what most of the developed world can get for $50. Why? Because they don't give a shit about this country. They don't want to innovate. They don't want to push technology forward. It's far easy to just sit on their asses, buy politicians, and run government enabled extortion rackets.
So all you alt-right supporters and Trump sycophants...you tired of winning yet? If you think your ass is raw now from being bent over, just wait. It's going to get worse.
Well, in the blue states at least (especially in the diverse ones like CA). The red states, not so much. Exhibit A: Alabama where an racist bigot pedophile will likely win the senate seat.
Without net neutrality, companies would be free to filter information however they want. It would be trivial to influence elections and policies, and they would have all the rights in the world to do so. Don't like it? Switch to another ISP...awww you don't have another ISP? Welcome to RT injected ads 24/7.
Like the rest of the Trump administration, he's a corrupt asshole looking to give hand jobs to his corporate buddies so he gets the golden reach around when he leaves his post.
Everything he has done so far has been EXACTLY what the telecoms have wanted. He doesn't give a shit about America or anything else. He just wants to line his pockets, and you can bet that's exactly what he's aiming for when he walks through the revolving door.
But this is what America wanted. Corrupt rich corporatist assholes. That's what they voted for, so that's what they're getting. Enjoy.
The bible says we should kill women by stoning for adultery. Do we do that?
The Constitution was written long before the age of automatic weapons and being able to mow down a town single handedly for a couple hundred bucks. Do you honestly think the found fathers would look at the gun atrocities of today and say, "Eh, what can you do?"
As far as standing against tyranny, I hate to burst your gun-toting bubble but you aren't going to stand against a tyrannical government with the military might of the US with guns. Your guns aren't going to do jack against tanks or GPS guided JDAMs. If the government were truly tyrannical, the gloves would be off. There wouldn't be any more rules, and the government would swat you and your gun-nut friends away like you were mosquitoes using whatever methods they saw fit. The best you could do is apply guerrilla/terrorist tactics, but on their turf? With our level of surveillance? And that's assuming people would even be unhappy enough with the tyrannical government that they'd even side with you in the first place. Just because someone is labeled a tyrant doesn't mean they aren't popular (Hitler was very popular in Germany, until things got weird).
No, guns are not going to stop a modern day tyrannical government with the power and resources of the US. Not going to happen. Even if you had millions of followers, it still wouldn't happen. You could have entire states backing you and it still wouldn't happen, because a mad crazy tyrannical government would have no problems dropping nukes on you until you were piles of radioactive ash, collateral damage be damned.
If you want weapons capable of killing lots of people then there should be measures in place that ensure that your not going to use them to kill a lot of people. It's really not that hard of a concept to understand.
Let's ignore the false equivalency you set up for a moment, as that blows your whole argument out of the water.
BitTorrent was designed to efficiently distribute data. That's what it does. Similar to how electrical grids distribute electricity, or plumbing systems distribute water. Can these be used for ill-intentioned actions? Sure, but that is not their primary function.
Guns were designed to kill. They fire high speed projectiles in order to cause lethal amounts of damage. It doesn't matter if you're shooting a deer or shooting a human, the purpose is the same: to kill. With great power comes great responsibility, but there's no real responsibility when it comes to who can get this power. I can literally walk into a gun shop and walk out with enough weapons and ammo to take out a small town.
Both of these are tools, and are not "inherently" good or bad. It's the intention of the user that makes that difference. However, guns are inherently a powerful tool of destruction. Such tools should have regulations in place to keep such powerful tools from falling into the wrong hands, and as can be seen the consequences of not having such regulations in place (or not enforcing them) can have drastic consequences.
No argument here. Imagine if stores/manufacturers pulled this loot box type of crap. It's like buying a car and then having to spin a roulette wheel to find out what kind of engine you're going to have (with chances of getting "hamster wheel", "lawnmower engine", etc.). Or going to the store looking for pumpkin filling for a pie, and finally get pumpkin filling after buying 20 cans because they all turned out to be random variations of beans.
I don't have a problem with loot boxes when it comes to things that have no impact on the game. If people want to blow their money on gambling for a lolita dress for their avatars, more power to them. But when it comes to actual essential game content or things that can influence the game, locking that behind some lame ass gambling mechanic makes the game pay-to-win and shows just how lazy/greedy the publishers are.
Don't get me wrong. There will always be a grind, and if everyone has to do the same grind there's no real problem. But creating a massive grind wall to coerce people into gambling boxes is a shit tactic, and these companies know it. It's deliberate pay-2-win, and worse they are even doing it single player games now.
Just don't buy the game. When they lose millions because they're treating their player bases like walking wallets, maybe these assholes will change their ways.
Yeah, hate to rain on Justice Kennedy's parade, but people are assholes. People with money and power are even bigger assholes. Had he a clue about fundamental human nature he would have easily seen how the ISPs were positioning themselves to subsequently screw everyone and own the country. Which party do you think the big ISPs are going to support? What political ads are they going to pepper their data streams with? What are they going to censor and block, or maybe just make it prohibitively expensive to get to?
But this is what America wanted. They wanted to be lied to, deceived, and dragged over the coals. They wanted big business to run over them. The wanted the rich to trod them underfoot. They wanted to be screwed over.
This is what they voted for. These are the consequences. Maybe next time they'll engage their brains instead of blind ideology before casting their vote.
In the internet community, we regard anyone who buys into BTC complete and utter morons. But hey, it's your money. You can buy all the tulip bulbs you want.
I wouldn't call 4C a win in that scenario. A 4C rise is enough to render large swaths of the most populated areas on Earth incapable of supporting human life without modern AC technology. For example, summertime humidity and temperatures would not fall low enough in places like southern India to prevent widespread heat related deaths.
But I agree with your sentiment. Doing nothing will just makes things a lot worse.
If you have even a basic understanding of chemistry and physics, you can prove to yourself the global warming is caused by us. It's not hard. A high school AP student could derive it from basic principles and black body physics.
In fact, the first climate model for this was developed back in the 1890's by Svante Arrhenius (a.k.a, the father of modern chemistry). He predicted that man's activities, if left unchecked, would end up warming the world due to an increase in greenhouse gases.
You're a fucking moron who doesn't have a single clue about what this is about.

Or if you use VPN, they'll just label you a criminal or a terrorists. After all, if you're doing nothing wrong what are you trying to hide.
There are dark days ahead my friends.
Is anyone really surprised? Did anyone honestly not see the parallels between the Great Orange Hitler and the original?

NASDAQ is considering opening bitcoin futures. If that's not a sign to bail, nothing is.

I fully encourage this splat-earther mission. May Darwin bless him.
Ancient Greeks figured out the Earth was spherical about 2400 years ago, just based on observations of the stars and planets. It's basic math.
Pedobear approves of your message.
I'm going to laugh my ass off when Coinbase vanishes and cashes in it's chips.
