As a fellow member of the IEEE, I can attest to the wealth of articles on IEEExplore. It's possible I am one of the dunces of the IEEE, but man, some of those articles wind up in serious egghead land for me. Some scary smart people belong to this organization...
I read about it on google news, caught the facts from several sources, then came to/. to see what my idiot nerdy colleagues thought about the news. Anyone coming to slashdot for breaking news are the same folk who use/. poll results for any useful stats...
If the Dakar rally, World Cup, or World Series of Poker were bombed, we'd hear about that too. Bombings of sporting events make news no matter in the world they are...this is not a US story, this is a world event.
Look at how many different nationalities are represented in a top level marathon - the Olympics are the only more diversified sport event I can think ok.
Too lazy to search for the actual article, but search Wikipedia for Sept 26, 1983 - that's the day it happened. Stanislav something or other - guy actually saved the world that day.
And I meant this comment to the story submitter. Maybe yes, more VM specific distros are needed, but without knowing what you are looking for, how can we help? You state you have a specific environment yet want more off the shelf options. Er, which is it? For what? Come on/. admins, please edit or revise before posting story nonsense.
It is a time honored/worn line, true, but the timing of the joke is what makes it funny. Audience, timing, material. The stuff of comedy. Try a glass of warm milk and settle down a bit, bubba:) it'll all make sense.
You Canucky types seem to get the short end of the stick far too often:( you poured out your hearts for Operation Yellow Ribbon back in the day and you have two crappy ISPs (Rogers is famed even down here), a lot of snow and second tier billing (Netflix, Wal-Mart, etc).
Just a cheery nod to our friends North of the border, a thanks for being good neighbors, and sorry we suck as neighbors. Not all Yanks are raving morons, and this one appreciates having you guys next door to us.
PS - Girls from Nova Scotia are hawt. Hawt I say! Thank you, that is all:)
The way amazon does it in 7-11 is they will mail you a code. Go to 7-11 (if Wawa did this I'd move back to Philly and would never leave their stores), punch it in, and grab yer l3wtz. Just like a bus locker. The dimensions aren't great...10x10x10 or some such.
Good for me since I get small electronics a lot and really don't want it sitting on my stoop all day in downtown DC...
Besides politics yikes I opened myself up there. I meant more like if we globally threw X into SATCOM and Y into receivers, how much dinero do we realistically, technologically, need to give fair (5MBPS up/down) globally? Doesn't mean the question is any easier to answer hehe but whatever.
I remember a History teacher once mentioning that if the US enjoyed the same amount of time in power as the Roman Empire, we would see the end of said power around the year 2600 (and yes, I am keenly aware of the double entendre there).
Anyone wanna lay a bet that we won't make it nearly that long? Africa has a lot going for it - were there to be a confederation formed there, it would be interesting to see the balance of power shift. They have a population, raw resources, and are increasingly tech savvy.
I was of the understanding that the reason Firefox hasn't been ported to iOS because it is open source. Same reason that VLC got yoinked from the App Store. Since there is no method to distribute the source from the same location as the finished product, it violates the F/OSS nature of the product.
Not saying I agree or disagree with it, just reporting what facts I know. Anyone who has different, factual information, please correct me.
I'd love to see something with Drow and the Underdark. Yes, wrong gaming franchise. I still want to see it :)
I'm sold! You had me at extras and sour cream.
Can't we just print some weed along with the nachos and pop tarts?

Seriously??? Vaccines give you autism? Whatever frigging dead trees land in your mailbox, please cancel them. Clearly your facts are out of wack.
Everyone knows that vaccines give you CANCER, not autism. Some people *shakes head sadly*

Change ok to of in my last sentence. Damn autocorrect....

and would be a nifty trick for them to leapfrog to polar flights since they haven't had smashing success with their rocket program thus far.
Hey now - the US has a desert! :)

The truest answer is to grab slack and build it once, the right way, for your particular environment. Done! :)

And my personal fav, the Thunderbolt II - much more fondly known as the Warthog. God what a delicious tidy package of mayhem it packs....
If you want to post in a story you modded already, do so as anon...there is a tick box for it when you post. That way your moderations stay intact.
I love Publix...where shopping is a pleasure. Wish we had decent groceries up North...
If I didn't blow my mod points, this would go up. Wal-Mart isn't doing this to be good guys, they want additional business.

I must simply ask the question....is there any reason save money that we aren't already truly globally connected, at fair speeds for all?

Which is why I transpose everything into ROT-13, then do it once more, for good measure! Try and catch me coppers muahahahahaha
