Actually, it's better to start out with 1 and 8. The reason is, you have to guess where to play 4 or 5, but you know exactly where to place 1 and 8. First, write down 1 to 8. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8. You'll see that each number has 2 neighbours except for 1 and 8. Looking at the puzzle. You should see that the spots marked with * are connected to all the spots except for 1.
Therefore, you can only place 1 and 8 there. 2 and 7 follows in the ! spots. From that point, it's just placing the remaining 4 numbers. It involves little guessing. Where as starting with 4 or 5 has more guess work.
I bought a computer in 98 with 8 gig of HD. You're telling me it would've costed around $800? The entire PC was $1000 and I'm sure the HD costed only around $100.
My German teacher once said jokes are the hardest thing to understand in a foreign language. If you can understand jokes, then you have a firm grasp on the language.
I'm the "IT guy" on my floor in res. There is no fucking way I'm spending the first few days of school, when workload is not too heavy, fixing everyone's computer. Think I'm gonna put up a poster informing them of the exploit, and where they should go to grab the patch. If they don't do it, I'll just tell them they've been warned. Provided of course, that their computers haven't been infected yet. *shudder* I can just imagine the number of porn and warez sites actively using this exploit. I feel bad for the sysadmins that have to work with thousands of computers.
P.S. I wish someone could write a program that uses the exploit to apply the unofficial patch. That way, I can just point everyone to that program and be done with it.
If you're talking about the space shuttle, it has to come back to Earth. If you're talking about rockets, it has to worry about the air friction while it's still in the Earth's atmosphere. Either case, I think NASA has to worry about aerodynamics of the spacecraft.
Well, it will be biased history. I don't mean that as an attack on the government. All history is biased. It's very difficult, maybe even impossible to present history in an unbiased manner. Perhaps if you tell it from different view points. However, who's to say how many view points is sufficient. How can we be sure we're not neglecting someone's experience?
One reason I can think of is that it raises awareness for malaria. It's not everyday that you hear it on the news with all the SARS, AIDS, bird flu, and mad cow disease stories.
You're right. However, they are pretty sure it will NOT ever go on trial. People will settle out of court and that's the end of it. If these suits start to go on trial, RIAA would be losing more money than before through lawyer fees, etc.
I thought monopoly abuse happened when MS included IE or WMP for free. Netscape and Real argued that a free version is already in the OS. So if MS includes other free software, other companies would cry monopoly abuse.
That actually happened to me. I wasn't watering the plants, but I accidentally knocked a plant over. There were a decent amount of water in it, and most of it spilled into the monitor. The screen started turning white and I immediately turned off the power.
At that point, I wasn't sure if the monitor is ruined or out. I left it to dry for about 24 hours. Then I hesitatedly turned it on. Surprisingly, it still works. My parents are still using it to this day in fact.
Question to the more knowledgeable/.er. Why did my screen turn white? I'm assuming that nothing is damaged permanently since it still works. So did it turn white because the water was changing the resistance in the circuit or something?
Judging from the screenshots, it looks very impressive. It definitely would be a handy tool for your average computer users.
However, I doubt I'll use it. Other slashdotters probably know what I'm talking about in that, I know exactly where all of my files are. I haven't used the search function in at least 2 years. I use folders to help me sort all of my data, and it's working well so far.
As for the other features, stock ticker, weather, news, photo, etc, I have programs for most of them already. I'm not saying that they're better than Google's implementation, but they are something I've used for a while and now used to. I don't feel the need to switch to something new when what I have now works perfectly well.
So kudos to Google for this. I'll probably recommend to most computer users. However, this geek don't see the need to use it.
Except that you have 6 billion children who are dependent on you for survival. Once you die, your children don't have the means to live anymore. Now would you still party-on until you die?
Alright, so maybe that's not the best analogy. Since you have a strong emotional bond to your own children, and sadly, most of the people on this planet don't care about the general well being of everyone.
I wouldn't say the strategy was conceived by morons. I think they are very smart, much more so than the average public. I think that the government knows exactly what's happening. They are doing this for the increasing amount of power and not in the interest of the public.
Search for "ua.ini" and you'll see that in Opera 8, you can make the Opera x.x completely disappear. This is my user agent
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041110
Do you see Opera in there anywhere? That's because I altered my ua.ini. Now, I'm not saying that people actually do this. But it is possible to make Opera undetectable.
Wrong. This is my useragent and I'm using Opera 8.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041110
In Opera 8, you can change ua.ini to make the Opera x.x disappear. Then the site won't be able to detect Opera at all. Look up ua.ini. It's understandable that you don't know this since it's a new feature in Opera 8.

I wish labels could work in a hierachical system. For example,
photos >> family >> 2005 >> vacation

Ha! With oil fields up there? No way in hell would US ever give it up. I think they just passed a new bill to drill for oil up there.
