Now, if only law enforcement agencies would press
criminal charges against them, and help ordinary people out the way they do for corporations, we'd be all set.
Hmm... when people were charged criminally with copyright infringement, slashdotters (rightly) argued that the sentence doesn't fit the crime. Now that we are talking about spammers, it has suddenly changed? I know spams are annoying and all, but it should not be a criminal offense. You can't pick your principle on each individual issue. Punishment should fit the crime, period.
Parent is absolutely right. A lot of people believe that wind, solar, hydro, or in this case, wave generated power is "green" and doesn't affect the environment. At least that's what I thought before I had to do some research in this area. Turns out, they do affect the environment.
Wind could change the local weather pattern. It has already happened to some extend in some of the northern European countries that utilize wind farms. There are also reports that wind farms kill migrating birds. Which I am a bit skeptical about, but it might be true. Hydro has a huge impact on the environment, which I'm sure most of the slashdotters already know about. I haven't heard too much about solar, except that currently it's not efficient enough to be a viable source of energy. Although, one could perceive that there is the possibility that it could affect the local climate. Remember, there is no such thing as free energy.
I cannot believe there were so many errors in an article which is only 358 words long. What a bad piece of journalism. Only 81 words are devoted to the China new item, the rest ss background on IPv6. The IPv6 information is riddled with errors.
Is it customary to count the number of words in an article?
Thank you for mentioning number 2. I've found that switching between tabs in Firefox sometimes takes a few seconds. Granted, the page I'm looking at is pretty big, but the same problem does not exist in Opera. I hope the problem could be addressed. As for now, Opera is still the best browser in my opinion.
You are an idiot.
Putting generators on the wheels would require MORE energy to move the car. These highway dividers DON'T require more energy to be used. It simply utilizes wasted energy.
See the difference? If people would use their BRAIN to think, the world would be a much better place.
It makes sense to have new actors in Bond. 007 is a codename, therefore, it's possible to have new agents with the same codename.
Indiana Jones however, is a person. To have a different actor in the same role just doesn't make sense.
Typing this on Opera.
I simply love the speed of the browser. The tab feature is better IMO. The best part is that I can customize the UI to however I want. Both IE and Firefox take up more screen space. Session is an awesome feature. I check the same websites everyday. You simply save them in a session, and everyday I open Opera, it goes to those sites automatically. It saves me at least one minute per day.
Of course, this means we need 75% of the US population to report to euthanasia centers, but what the heck, we are talking about the survival of the planet here.
I always find it funny that people think the survival of the planet is at stake. Do not kid yourself, Earth will survive no matter how badly we fuck it up. However, the survival of the human race is entirely a different issue. Our planet has shown that it has an incredible ability to recover itself. The meteroite that hit the Earth 65 million years ago wiped out almost 90% of the species on Earth, covered the atmosphere with dusts, and changed the climate drastically. Yet, Earth became healthy once again.
I believe that even if we pollute the entire planet, set off all the nuclear arsenal in the world, change the entire climate, and barren all the land, the planet will still be able to survive. Humans on the other hand, would be royally screwed. So don't worry about the planet, she can take care of herself. The only thing we should be worried is our own future.
Some have said that Where's Waldo contains nudity somewhere.
This is something I never get. Why are people so uptight about nudity? Is displaying our body in its natural form really evil? Is sex really demoralizing? Why are we conditioned to feel like we've done something wrong when sex is completely biologically natural?
Note: I'm a bit biased cause I just finished The Da Vinci Code. All the talk about sacred feminine had an effect on me
Mostly in IM. I tend to read over what I write while posting something like this.
Anyway, enough trolling for one day. I usually just let these stuff slip by, but my fuse is short on Friday.
Seriously, is it that hard to know the difference between except and expect? Sure they have the same letters, but that's no excuse.
Sorry, had a bad day.:(
I went to Fermilab once when they had a open house. I brought back a ruler that says Fermilab on it. When I used it during school, a few of my friends thought it's a sperm bank. That was a good class.
While there is a definate possibility of disaster with fission, the truth is that instead of releasing pollutants in the air, it's right there - ultimately in barrels.
Umm... don't you remember the radioactive clouds that spread over almost half of the world a few weeks after Chernobyl? While the CANDU reactor does contain the nuclear waste within the concrete structure, the possibility of other reactors releasing radioactive clouds into the air is still there
Because it is a low grade energy, with a low conversion efficiency (about 15%) capturing solar energy in quantity requires huge installations--many square miles.
That number is outdated. A recently discovered new solar cell material is 50% efficient
Like wise, you normally do not say the year. I tell people today is May 14th or the 14th. Never have I said today is May 14th, 2004. I hope everyone at least knows the year.
At the same time, the people who bought a PS2 but want something else (like a GC or PS2) are likely to buy one with the low price, so theirs sales will go up.
Must be a PS2 fanboy. Who else would buy a second PS2 to look for "something else"?
I'd consider that to be more insightful than trolling. All for changing the mod system say ay!

Relax... This is slashdot, nobody RTFA anyway. :)
The parent was talking about how she uses her sexy dress to mess up the curve, ie. distract the other STUDENTS during exam. Not distracting the TA.

Kinda like Gmail. :p

For once, please, for the love of god, do NOT RTFA! Or to be more precise, click on the last link. I'm blind!
Whatever happened to people's sense of humour? It's a JOKE people! Relax.
I just read it again, and I'm pretty sure he implied Bush.

Anyone else find uClinux to be a funny word?

Maybe I just needs some time to become familiar with it, but I find parentheses to be MUCH MORE intuitive than THAT
