You DO realize you're talking about the company that has cached the Internet, correct? And in RAM, no less (if I recall correctly - maybe it was just the most used pages that are cached in RAM.)
You want a gig of email but with privacy? Go sign up at Spymac. It's also free, and it's already here - and not in beta. And they don't read your email.
2) If you really want to waste your time making a palm sized file or webserver, you'd be much better off with a pocket PC or miniATX machine.
The iPod is measured in gigabytes, not megabytes. That's the first thing.
3) WTF do you want a portable file server for in the first place? File servers are supposed to be STATIONARY. That's why they're servers...so they can efficiently deliver you files without you having to get up!
Ever heard of a thumbdrive? Guess what that is.... a file server! Though granted, the iPod is ALREADY a fileserver in that sense.
But jsut because you like your fileservers to be stationary doesn't mean everyone does.
4) Anybody who thinks that an inefficient, clunky interface podged onto an MP3 devices just to make it a webserver is cool should really consider devoting some of their energy to real problems in computing.
Google's was only available to 1000 users, right? Spymac's is public already - thus, "more free"... since you would put value on your email account if there are only 1000 of them.
Hell, that's nothing. They also reinvented the workweek. Before starting our long working week,
The "normal" person's workweek in ET started about 4 hours earlier.... 1 hour earlier in PST, but they still missed the "before we start" window for most people.
I actually put this to use last quarter. I parked in the parking lot by my dorm, where parking passes were $70 and tickets were $25. I knew that unless I had to park there more than 3 times, it'd be cheaper to just park there.
That said, are there any plans for integrating the History into an OSS browser? (Or are you hoping someone in the/. crowd will do so?):) Or do you plan on adding more features to Trailblazer itself to make it a fully-featured browser? Thanks for replying btw.
This is one AFD joke that I wish was real. I've actually been expecting a "PowerPod" that can play video to come out at some point soon - obviously this isn't it.:(

When they start putting linux in toasters, that will be useless
You just wait.
It'll be able to download settings for all your foods and intelligently decide what you're giving it, and how long to cook it.
It isn't as far-fetched as it sounds.

Depends on how you define "cool", really....
iPod = 40 gigs, Zaurus = 64 megs last time i checked.
Also the last Zaurus I saw was $600. How much are they now?
You beat me to it by a minute, but I've got the karma bonus so :P
The scroll/touch wheel wouldn't be too hard to turn into a keyboard. spinspinspin TAP spinspinspinspin TAP, you've got "ls".
Apple is dying too, of course. They make a good fit. :)
Until Farscape, that was true for me too.... But only a couple of Farscape episodes even came close to that (namely, the ones that tried to be cute).

Spymac has already launched the first free 1GB email service today. Yeah, they got the idea from Google, but they were able to implement it in four days.
*sits back because he knows he's too late to get modded up enough to be seen*
not very user friendly (crap, I've got to delete all of the .txt files in this directory with 800 files in it...).
The videogame industry has been selling titles that don't involve much more than that for years. More enemies is more fun, right?....Right?
Oh fine, I'll do it.
compare their claim to those involving Harry Potter rip-offs and Vanilla Ice versus David Bowie and Queen.
This means nothing to me.... who wants to enlighten me and karma whore?
I'm not even going to go into all of the places that you shouldn't be taking pictures anyway (locker rooms, gyms, dr. office, the list goes on)
:)
I think you just...um.... did.

Too nice to spend all of it sitting in front of a computer screen.
:)
Happy April Fools day to you too.

Actually, you know it's an april fools' joke because Slashdot didn't call it 'lame'.

Hey, it's april 2nd. ....just kidding! ^_^ APRIL FOOLS!!!1 LOLOL!!!!!!11!!!!ONE!!!!!
Unless someone figures out a way to implant a uterus into a hand.....
Maybe the computer does that automatically to one-letter first names.
Wow, I'm not sure whether to be proud or ashamed that I know all that.
Proud. Definitely proud.
