I went for a job interview there, and upon reading that fact ($1000 if you leave/are fired early) in the contract they had given me to sign, promptly said "Thank you" and walked away.
I laughed when I read the first paragraph of his article, because it pretty much totally summarized my morning. I tried to open up explorer to work with some shares, and a dialog would come up saying "Access is denied." and nothing would happen. Okay, great. So I load up task manager, and kill all errant explorer processes. I get to the last one, hit 'end task', and get "Access is denied." Super! Suddenly, all my applications stop responding, so I kill them all in task manager, and they disappear, but still show up in the ALT+TAB list. I threw in the towel, and decided to reboot. Windows hangs at the 'Saving your data' screen...
I'd love to see someone factor that kind of crap in in a Total Cost of Ownership study.
While I agree with you that it does lack integration with Evolution (I have a similar setup to yours), regarding the time it takes to process each message - you can add '-local' to your SA commandline and it will speed things up considerably. As far as training it, I set up a cron job to have it read and learn from my Spam and Inbox nightly. Not the most elegant solution, but it works okay.
I remember reading about students in a William Gibson novel (Neuromancer maybe?) fashioning stunguns out of disposable cameras and instantly knew it was possible, thinking back to the time I stuck my finger inside one.. ouch.
I agree with the reviewer's sentiment that this is not the place to look as a beginner. I would recommend, even before checking out the mentioned 'Bible', taking a look at NeHe Production's OpenGL tutorials (see the sidebar).
Yeah, there's some tweaking involved, but it still runs - and saying that it runs like "CRAP" is pure FUD. Head over to the gentoo forums for evidence of more than one person who has it running smoothly (including screenshots).
You jest, but I can't count the number of times I'm hunted for some ridiculously named ATI card driver. I swear for the longest time their marketing department just created different combinations of the words "fury pro rage 128/256/64 mach" to create hoardes of subtly different cards with partially or totally incompatible drivers.
I have a Linksys WMP11 v2.7 that does not work under Linux. However, I don't blame Linux for that incompatibility, I blame Broadcom for not releasing the farking chip's specs so that someone ELSE can write a free driver for it.
Anyway, supposedly I can use DriverLoader to get it working (use win32 drivers in Linux) but I haven't had the time to play around with this yet.
He has a point - this is the number one complaint I hear from developers using Struts where I work. Minor modifications often result in a ridiculous amount of changes in other files.
How do JavaServer Faces compare? Anyone use them for a web application yet?
Good point - in Canada, for an impoverished woman to have a child is a ticket to being eligible for receiving welfare. With each child she has, the money she is entitled to increases. This is obviously flawed - what better way to create generations of dependant offspring with no motivation to crawl out of the hole of dependence?
And I'm not talking out of my ass - my wife is a social worker, and it happens all the time.
On top of this, why don't we form an underground 'club' where we all get together and stage one-on-one 'fights' to draw our comrades out of the woodwork. Once we have enough membership, we'll..
And none of those facts show that videogames cause violence.
Thanks for coming out, though. Better luck next time!

Eclipse doesn't cater only to Java.
The whole idea behind Eclipse is to provide a generic IDE that can be used with multiple languages.
Granted, support for other languages is still somewhat immature (although the C/C++ isn't too bad).. it's coming along.

Microsoft changes name of flagship product to 'Winspire'.

I don't see why not - I heard he did the sound effects as well. Did you hear anything that would indicate this?

Profit?
I have always dreamed of Two Tattis heading straight for my face.
Wait.. how do you pronounce that again?

No, Far Cry hasn't been released for Linux - people are running it using WineX.
.. "robocones" were what fem-bots store their high-caliber barrels in.

10 to 20.. lines of coding.. Perl..
*must*.. practice restraint...

Because that would devalue the adspace :)

oh crap
Which reminds me of Theo De Raadt saying that OpenBSD could even be incorporated into "baby-mulching machines"
Awesome! I was waiting for him to give me the go-ahead!
Bah, now they'll have to rename it to something representing of a burning animal. (FireRhesus?)
That figure was accurate for my first job with a private Canadian company. Convert that to US dollars for a big shocker :)
The starting salary for an entry level programmer in the public service in Canada is around 40k.
Kinda like a quake map, where you turn off clipping and go outside of it nothing exists but you can still say what the map is "shaped" like.
Dude, you just blew my entire world apart.
