    In other news, hot-on-the-heels of Google's release of Underwater Street View, Apple has filed a preliminary injunction against USW claiming Google's use of the the terms "Street" and "Ocean" violate 14 of Apple's patents. Among them, Apple cites two in particular: patent 1345-B which covers the use of "Words relating to rectangular shape or design" and patent 3821-F "Color variations of AppleBlue-13 developed by Apple Inc". A preliminary hearing is set for Dec 13th 2012.

I can't figure out what they are trying to cover up here, but this has got to be one of the most outlandish excuses I've ever heard.

    And this is why Linux will never be more than just an "alternative" desktop OS.

    Things have changed since 1998. There are a ton of moderated Linux forums available these days to help the less experienced. The http://www.stackoverflow.com/ and it's associated channels are a great place to search for, and ask, questions. Chances are, whatever you're struggling with has already been answered there. The moderation/ranking system used keeps the useless garbage cut way down. There's a big enough userbase that questions get answered quickly and accurately. There's no reason to subject yourself to IRC anymore.

    Disclosure is pointless. Firstly, it doesn't prevent the carrier from installing spyware on your device. Secondly, it's often worded in a way which leaves the customer clueless:

    At no time will Sprint share this information with unaffiliated
    third-parties, or individuals"

    People just "meh" at shit like this and click through it. The lawyers know it too. I say, If you're going to raise hell about CarrierIQ, make a policy that requires the individual to Opt-in.

    Be careful there. There are plenty of peace loving Muslims who are not batshit crazy. Don't condemn an entire populous because a handful of murders think they are justified through the eyes of their religion. Society gets to be a pretty cold place when you judge the intent of many based on the actions of a few.

    If one barrel is 306 pounds and a ton is 2000 pounds then that's 400,000 pounds of oil consumed, or 1324 barrels. In contrast, BP trashed the Gulf with an estimated 5 million barrels.

    It's interesting that bacteria are working hard to consume the spilled oil, but hardly a successful method of cleanup.

    Face it, if you don't run windows, you'll never, never, never ever have 100% office compatibility. Never. Microsoft wins here as well as being the De-Facto gaming platform. Yeah, yeah I know, Steam is coming to Linux... and Metro is brainded.. we'll see.

    Apple has it's own gated-community take on everything from music to desktop. You drink one cup of kool-aid and do everything Apple's way, or leave. You don't need Windows. You don't need office. You don't even need to think for yourself. If you have a problem pay, pay, pay. The Apple store loves you.

    Linux sounds great when you first hear about it. You hear about rock solid stability, No Internet Explorer. All the people who you think know more than you are running it. So, you go to buy it, but can't find it. You find out you have to download it. You go to download it and there are 1700+ different options. You ask a question on IRC "which distro should I download" and someone replies "Here!" and you find out about goatse and spend the rest of the weekend trying to wash your eyes out.

    Dekstop or ISV, the real issue here is that there isn't a perfect solution. They all have their share of problems.

    What's more, when you buy Organic, you are (in most cases) supporting a local farmer in your area rather than Del Monte or Dole or some other mega-corp grower. Indirectly, buying Organic means you are also not supporting the pesticide companies such as Monsanto who are out to destroy family farming.

    Buy organic. TFA is a shill.
