"First of all, why don't people drive diesel cars like they do in Europe? Diesel is not only more efficient, but most diesel technology is actually cleaner than gasoline. It also doesn't depend on a complete paradigm shift."
Perhaps because in America gasonline does not cost about $6/Gallon as it does in The Netherlands?
All those people complaining about any gasoline price below $4/gallon should think again...especially when filling up gas-guzzling cars to drive a few miles to work.
If I recally correctly I once read something about the idea of mounting a plasma-torch in front of a high speed travelling vehicle, and reducing friction/heat in some way.
Then why was the SR-71 Blackbird kept a big secret for so long?
It's also pretty obvious if something goes across your radar screen at mach 3 as well!

I've been playing around with (wx)Python as well lately and it rocks!
Especiall combined with:
Boa Constructor:
'A cross platform Python IDE and wxPython GUI Builder. It offers visual frame creation and manipulation, an object inspector, many views on the source like object browsers, inheritance hierarchies, doc string generated html documentation, an advanced debugger and integrated help.'
http://boa-constructor.sourceforge.net/
And the Twisted framework for network programming.
http://www.twistedmatrix.com/
"Twisted Matrix Laboratories is a distributed group of open-source developers working on Twisted, an event-driven networking framework written in Python and licensed under the LGPL. Twisted supports TCP, UDP, SSL/TLS, multicast, Unix sockets, a large number of protocols (including HTTP, NNTP, IMAP, SSH, IRC, FTP, and others), and much more."
I've now got a fully asynchronous and very fast custom server running.. in less then a day from a clean start with the Python language!
IMHO projects like Folding@Home, TSC, United Devices, Lifemapper or ClimatePrediction.net are far more important then breaking a piece of encrypted material.
Like RC5 for example. If you break the RC5-64 key, everyone is happy. Then they want to break the RC-72 key.
Wow.. it takes ages and ages.. and what does it *really* proof?
Yes, it is breakable too.. wow. I'd rather have a few new medicins available, thank you:)
What I'm trying to say: there is plenty of computer power available on this world.. but not nearly near enough! There are far more important and interesting things to do with it then breaking some non-sense line of text!
until we hear stories about 'liberating Mars' from the 'evil axis of bacteria' :D
(I mean, hell, I'll give you Voyager
Can we reach an agreement on _just_ 7 of 9 ?
I mean... I've always wanted to go out and lunch with a Tertiary Adjunct of the famous Unimatrix.
Somebody set Intel up the bomb ::rolleyes::
Everyone knows that 7 of 9 is not dual core.. tskk.. calling it a sister
I like your way of thinking... but it also reminds me a bit about something... hmm... oh yes, 'tis called the Matrix ;P

If you'd used Python you'd have finished in less than three months ;o)
wxWidgets:
wxPython + Python + Boa Constructor.. works as a charm! \o/
*raises hand* :)
;D
Soo..what about 'Attracting Atractive Women Into Computer Science' then?
As a pro, you do get good healthcare there as well :)
And I just kept hearing that Unreal Tournament voice saying "Man down!" in my head
Perhaps an idea for a new UT weapon?
Something like the 'SegLauncher'?
Make your time! Release all Seg! \o/
If you're working in Python.. I think one could build a basic, but well-functioning webserer in 20 mins... so why shouldn't this be possible? :)
How did that joke go again?
Oh, yeah: I Blame Microsoft
"..from just under 5MHz for the original IBM PC to 33MHz for the latest 386 systems. "
Just imagine a beowulf cluster of these!
If I recally correctly I once read something about the idea of mounting a plasma-torch in front of a high speed travelling vehicle, and reducing friction/heat in some way.
Anyone else who knows a bit more about this?
Ok, then tell me:

I really recommend checking this out!! ^_^
finally! ^_^
:-)
*remembers that Dr. Zefram Cochrane (ST) was born in 2030
ah, nevermind :)
"Enduring Freedom" :D
In Soviet Russia mining robot go insane all the time...
I wonder if the shoe wearer will get overclocked
Or 3D desktops so that we can fly through our files, just as in movies like Hackers ^_^
