I have copied Realplayer files using Gramofile. All you need to do is set up Gramofile to start recoring to a wav, then get realplayer on the station. And yes, you will want to adjust your mixer settings so the sound is good. I suggest running a test segment.
I am not sure if this could be scripted, as I don't know if Realplayer or Gramofile takes command line options, but I do know they can be passed through aumix to the mixer.

Don't hold your breath to listen to the tunes under linux. The gave us an rpm and a tarball based on Debian, and for those of us running a different distro, we are soaked.
And the tarball is not really a tarball, its just a tar file of the executables, and the stuff they are looking for.
I sent them a note to give us a real tarball, or real rpms, but not that junk.
Rob
I have to agree. Some projects need more attention, like KPilot, currently they have broken conduits in the KDE release 3.2, 3.3 and 3.3.1. Why do the KDE folks allow for something broken to be released?
It just seems absurd to me.
But in general, all I see is that Linux is getting better every day, with or without this new organization.
On the other hand, I have found that Mandrake screwed up 10.1 Official by requiring an rpm that is only on 10.0 Official. They probably fixed that with the KDE 3.3.1 update they made available on Friday. Oh, yeah, they also had a serious kdebase-kdm problem that was easily fixed, and those of us who found out about it on line were able to fix it up.
But why are the companies so sloppy?
Well for those of us that are trying to break MS down, and have Billy G beg for money on the streets, we usually upgrade anywhere from daily to when a new Distro is released from our favorite Linux Company.
But for me, I usually run urpmi.update -a; urpmi --auto-select every Friday evening.
I just spent about 3 hours on the phone with Verizon Tech Spport today. All that is required is to get my little 10Mb "Personal Web Space" working. It took that amount of time, 2 lost connections to tech support, one discussion with the Customer Advocacy folks, to finally get it up to Engineering. And they are supposed to fix the problem in 48 hours. Its probably just a permissions issue.
Verizon? Blech!
Because for the last 4 years I've been loving linux. All I would suggest is that you should build up a Linux box, then configure the GUI of your choice to act like a Mac.
The only problem with that would be that you would have to break the right button off your mouse..... Otherwise, you can make the GUI look like any other OS on steriods.
Go Open Source! Leave the commercial stuff behind!
Yep, for this Linux home user only 15 miles from Redmond, the writer is sure right on. MS and BillyG sure are 800 pound gorillas, not only in Washington State, but all world wide.
Rob
I run Linux as a desktop solution with KDE on 2 different machines: An AMD XP2100 with 512mb Ram, and on a Dell Inspiron 1100 with a P2-266 and 144mb ram. The Inspiron is running Mandrake 9.2 and the XP machine is running Mandrake 10.0 Official.
I was expecting the Inspiron to be doggy slow with KDE, and messed around with the smaller window managers for a time with it, but went back to KDE because it is at least as fast to load as any of the others according to my observations.
I find it interesting that KDE is said to be so bloated, I remember when the code got streamlined (I believe it was under 3.2, no?). The comments about speed were astounding on the Mandrake and KDE Users lists. It was true, KDE was more featured, and faster.
IMHO, Liunx does not have to be faster than Windows to be superior for the desktop. It already is, and it gets better daily. And if you have not used it to replace Windows, you should. It's a great alternative.
I'm pretty similar. What got me to use Linux was MSquish, and the start of the IE4 lawsuits. I dislike thier world takeover plans, but I like Linux's world take over plans.
What I like about is many fold, way configurable, not having to suffer with a GUI that must look like anything, then there are all the CLI tools. *Everything, absolutely everything* can be done from the command line, and I love that.
Then I like the idea of just paying once a year to mandrake to be part of their club and download the new version when they come out. Sure, I could dl it for free, but I really like to support what I believe in.
Well, I don't score so high, but I have been processing Seti@home for several years, under a slower than a turtle P-133, K6/2-400, and now a number cruncher 2100XP, which gives me some 2500 results.
Oh, yeah, and the client for linux is really nice about not stepping on jobs with a higher priority. Just another reason to give WinSnooze the boot.
In a world without windows, who needs gates?
Rob
Heck yeah, I like Starbucks hot, strong and black. But you gotta be a fool to not realize that there is a lot of caffeine in that stuff.
Now maybe the average Globe and Mail reader needs to be told that, but the average/. reader? Give me a break, we go where the coffee is strong, and no place else.
Rob
Millenium and Harsh Realm were 2 of the finest shows I have every seen, and if FOX wants to dust something off, it seems that these would be good choices, too.
I don't go that far, but I really have lightened up in the last few years on my new music buying, as the prices are insane. $17-$18 for a new CD is insane, of the new stuff I have to get, I only buy it on sale, for $12-15 if I am lucky.
I also buy CDs from eBay, from overseas where I can get them for $6-8 apiece and from small distributors where I can score for similar prices.
But I am known to trade CDs and mp3s with buddies, but on CDs, just like the old days with cassettes. And I too have been known to buy CDs when I heard mp3s of the group.
The RIAA has no idea what they are talking about. They are getting in their own way with suing their customers and jacking up prices. Screw the RIAA
I thought that was a totally bogus arguement. I mean that if a problem is found there is usually good help available through a website, or email list, 24/365. I my ego saturated opinion, that just rocks over having to deal with MS's "support"
Rob
You forgot one significant date:
June 19, 2004- Fine Paid. Bill Gates spanked for being a bad boy. Linux based machines record the whole spanking for posterity.
Yeah, don't gripe about what's not in a Mandrake distro. It just means that you're not familiar with urpmi, and how Mandrake has fresh rpms all the time for us.
Mandrake rocks.
Microsoft sucks, and Longhorn is just vaporware.
I have pondered how or if this information could be made available. Looking good for open access!
We went to 2 different B&Rs which at 8:30 pm had signs up that they were not taking any more coupons.
LAME!
Or run Linux. I recommend Mandrake to the newbies, its a good install and run version, and totally configurable for the experts.

Linux already has the world domination program. Microsquish lost alread.

Mandrake has had 2.6 available in cooker for about a month.

Oh, I thought it would be "XP: Return of the Tweaker". Give me a break, Linux lose to M$. Linux has already won.
