You're kidding, right? Cocaine, Opium, and a handful of others were perfectly legal back then. As for the small community reason, then what about gangs that travel from town to town? I would say that the threat of the banker having a shotgun behind the counter would play a large factor in this as well....

6 characters longer. Makes a minor difference. Google did not win by simple site layout alone, but this was a part of Google winning.

Think of it this way: how is Joe Schmoe going to know to use search.yahoo.com? Even if he did, would he remember it? Probably not. Just some food for thought I guess.

  5. Didn't Yahoo learn the first time? on Yahoo To Charge For Search Listings · · Score: 5, Insightful

Google by far beat Yahoo the first time, because Google has a simple interface, with very few misleading pages (except for the bombs, which are at most the first few sites). Yahoo, on the other hand, has always had inferior searches. This will only make Yahoo's searches worse, resulting in more people flocking to google. Just my 2 cents.

The origional ban on pork and other unclean animals was lifted by Jesus. So there you have it, Jesus likes shrimp, and therefore YWH does as well.

Monopolies over broadband are sickening, and growing more and more. Currently, I pay $100/mo for 512 sync, because my ISP is the only ISP in my small town.

Reguardless if someone does something stupid and reckless, they shouldn't have a cruel or unusual punishment. By all means, 3 years in a federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison is a good punishment. The punishment should fit the crime, after all. I'm just saying not to charge him with something he didn't really do. Cruel and unusual punishment is forbidden in that silly little document called the Bill of Rights.

The potential doesn't mean that it should be charged as if it had. If I shoot someone, it isn't murder. I shouldn't be charged with murder unless they die. That's what ATTEMPTED murder is for. He should be charged at the most with attempted cyberterrorism.

I think that this is a good thing, IMHO. When this law was first written, everyone on slashdot was against it, but when you think about it, this makes perfect sense. The feds can arrest you if you break a law related to your domain name, and in addition charge you with falsifying the domain name records. On the other hand, there are numerous privacy issues with making this info public, but in the end I guess it all evens out, I've gotten tons of spam with my domain name since I've registered it (both email and snail mail), but at the same time, good spam filtering and using the snail mail spam for firewood fuel is about all it amounts to. I don't think the feds would really care that much if you left a bad email address though. In the end, this is just another charge the DA can bring against you to make a really sound case.
