Sitting and passively listening to a lecture, without any opportunity to ask questions, is the least educationally effective method of learning there is. At a good school, what's really beneficial is stuff like having good apparatus for labs, having small lab groups, having opportunities for undergraduate research, being able to ask your TA and prof questions, having someone knowledgeable grade your homework, interacting with other students who are smart, ... The list goes on and on. None of that can be reproduced via video."

Yes but my point is it's better to have those videos then none, and have them in an organized site, and have a "wikipedia" like pages for each course/related material, that students / teachers all over can constantly add too and forums. You can do a lot of this on the net, at your own pace. This is my point.

The truth is the best teachers should be recording their classes/lectures and puting them on the net, not waiting for the beauracracy to catch up. Kids who want to learn and desire to will, but you have to give them quality teachers who know how to teach and keep kids interested.

I always wondered why schools didn't simply find the best teachers then mass produce their teachings en-mass via video and the internet.

If you don't use your drives 24/7 and only use them much more rarely then you can get away with not replacing them longer but...

I have learned the hardway from when I was younger: If you can afford RAID, even simply mirroring, do it. I use RAID 5 and there is no way I'm ever going back to a non-RAID setup, you save loads of time in not having to back stuff up to CD or DVD. Although you should ALWAYS back up smaller important files to either 1) Flash or 2) CD/DVD.

The xbox also played DVD's yet didn't sell anywhere close to what the PS2 did. People bought the PS2 because they were looking forward to the sequels of their favorite games. Don't kid yourself. It's the same reason people bought a Super Nintendo, after the NES era, they knew all their favorite games would be on the platform.

It's the games that sell the system.

As always the system selling games, wide library and their exclusivity will determine the sell through of the console. Most people who aren't gamers and who have a good grasp of gaming history are not really able to comment on why something is or isn't successful. Gamers get consoles to play games, before PS1 hit, Nintendo was #1 for two consecutive generations, they would have been just as big as the PS1 was if they hadn't screwed up the N64 technologically by chaining it to a cartridge based system.

Ultimately developers knew where they wanted to go to make the money and that was with graphically enhancing games, and so the PS1 was a no brainer with the huge storage capacity for games like FF7. The problem is now for competitors is brand dominance, Playstation as a brand = "I don't have to worry about the games I want not being available".

That's ultimately what gamers want, gamers give their money to those who serve their interests.

Tell me have you ever been ripped off for a large amount of money? I don't care WHO you are, but when you've worked months and months for money and someone defrauds you of thousands of dollars, thats MONTHS or YEARS of your life you can't get back, money gives a person control of their time and their life, it supports their family, when someone steals that money, THEIR PROPERTY, LIFE AND TIME HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM THEM.

It's a perfectly valid response. You have to understand paypal does stupid fucking things, I got defrauded once and paypal gave me a hell of a time simply because I bought from a buyer who did not have "paypal buyer protection" after the sale because he ripped off a bunch of people and then the flurry of negative feedback came on ebay, but he DID have buyer ptoection wgeb I made the sale, but he lost it due to bad ebay feedback and I had to haggle with paypal for my money of technicality.

Sure bombing may seem extreme from our side because we are not the person who has been defrauded, but if it was a big enough amount of money it surely would be very difficult to settle onself if you're not in a position to get it back.
