I dont agree with this - it seems to hit quite hard in the middle of the spectrum. If you have nothing then what can the RIAA do. Take your 5 year old pc - it will have cost them more. Nobody can sue you if you are poor. Its only when you get a house/responsibilities and a career that the law is able to take that away. You can lose your freedom/family if you are poor but thats about it - cant take money they dont have.
The rich most definitely have things/freedoms to take away - they might have good lawyers but even then they would prob settle out of court as it would be cheaper and any allegation is damaging to the very rich.
The "original Halo" was just an updated Tribes. Man, what a good game. Pity that MS bought Bungie and Halo became famous...it's a watered-down Tribes.
Tribes was great - I did love the flying about and the choice of style quick and no armour, heavy and slow or in between:)
Halo is about multiplayer mainly and it helps to have played the singleplayer game through so you know what its all about and how the weapons work.
Grab yourself a Dell XPS / Alienware laptop. There you go.
I have an xps laptop and it wont play crysis - apart from moving through treacle and glitching all over the place. Maybe the latest £4k(thats
6,196.13 USD to everyone else on slashdot;) ) will.
Microsoft: Oh yes, the, uh, the Battery...What's,uh...What's wrong with it?
Laptop owner: I'll tell you what's wrong with it, my lad. 'E's dead, that's what's wrong with it!
Microsoft: No, no, 'e's uh,...he's resting.
Laptop owner: Look, matey, I know a dead battery when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now.
Microsoft: No no he's not dead, he's, he's restin'! Remarkably charged, the Battery, idn'it, ay? Beautiful plumage!
Laptop owner: The plumage don't enter into it. It's stone dead.
Microsoft: Nononono, no, no! 'E's resting!
Watching ladies making out with each other is manly, but the womenfolk tend to complain when you do it in front of them for some reason.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy Dragon Age, I know I did:) though I'm of the kind that's easily obsessed, I spent about four hours on the Character Creator alone before playing, so my experience may not necessarily relate to that of anybody else in this thread.
I am not sure whether the experience was making out with other men, womenfolk complaining or something about dragon age now;)
I have mass effect 2 and also a short attention span. Personally I liked fallout 3 better, but this due to some insane battles you will be doing right from the start in Mass Effect. For me fallout 3 was more convincing. However, be sure to give it a try! The story is very nice. (although I only played for about 6 hours)
Dragon Age could also be interesting, but it was to much text for me.
And you are probably right with the engine and all.
I shall give Dragon Age a go then - thanks for that. I shall have to play it when the other half isn't around as I dont want her thinking I am a geek:) Shooting things or driving fast is manly right???:)
Lord Lucan:) Dyslexia rules KO
Richard John Bingham, 7th Earl of Lucan (born 18 December 1934[1]), known as Lord Bingham before 1964, sometimes colloquially called "Lucky" Lucan, disappeared in the early hours of 8 November 1974, following the murder of Sandra Rivett, his children's nanny, the previous evening. There has been no verified sighting of him since then.
On 19 June 1975, an inquest jury named Lucan as the murderer of Sandra Rivett, the last time that an inquest was allowed to name the person they suspected of committing such a crime.[2] He was presumed deceased in chambers on 11 December 1992[3] and declared legally dead in October 1999.[4
I don't think I even did everything that is possible in Fallout 3. Not that I want to complain! Looking really forward to this one. Fallout 3 has kept me on the edge of my seat for many many hours! But I am a bit confused by the article calling it fallout 3.5.
Is this standalone? Or New dlc?
It can be new and standalone but not revolutionary enough to be fallout 4 Is my guess. They will get the game engine and put some new graphics, characters, storyline, weapons and objects in.
I loved fallout 3 so I am not necessarily complaining.
I actually found this to be the most addictive single player game ever. I have a short attention span and this nearly didnt cut it for me as it took more than 60 secs to actually do anything but I am glad I persevered. I am now left wondering what other games I have missed out on due to this attitude. Just giving mass effect 2 a go.
I can't believe I was modded troll - I genuinely love coffeegeek which isnt a commercial site and I dont like fairtrade. How is that trolling? I like coffee and I dont like fairtrade coffee. I make decisions based on quality. How can you not - I know I will buy something rubbish because it is made by x company or person - derr.
But we don't make our decisions based purely on quality - for instance I buy fair trade coffee knowing full well it doesn't taste as good as Lavazza. So I guess people will continue to use Goggle because Microsoft have been raping the landscape for so long . ..
I make my decisions on quality - fairtrade coffee is horrible(massive generalisation poss)- I keep trying it but now I have the nice stuff - hmmmm yummy proper coffee and check out coffeegeek for proper coffee
bluray will due. it has NO market acceptance. no, you geeks don't count, you don't buy enough of these.
for everyone else (non geeks) dvd works, works fine, is cheap and plays everywhere.
sorry, but fanboys of sony can claim that BD is here to stay but wait until sony wants to re-re-remilk the video market.
you BD fans are the suckers, truly. a movie is a movie. it does NOT gain anything (in the storytelling) by being in so-called high def. its a sucker play and in this economy it will simply die, over time. it will never even get to 25% of dvd rentals or sales (mark my words).
downloading drm-free is the future. drm-laden bd can kiss my ass.
Instead of drm-laden bd I thought you said drm-bin-laden. Suddenly we have terrorist media.:)
I mean its not advanced with regards to the audience its courting - users and therefore developers.
But it is. Developing for.NET compact is much more comfortable than developing for any other mobile platform.
Do we see augmented/mixed reality on windows mobile? nope. Or tomtom with intelligent routing? nope.
Maybe you are a bit myopic;-) There are augmented reality applications for Windows Mobile and TomTom just sucks. But have you seen anywhere a truck navigation for any other platform than Windows Mobile?
Yes apple's OS can't multithread but people dont care about that when they want to say find a restaurant on a find-a-restaurant app, they want it to work. If it does that - good.
Finding a restaurant is nothing special. Every navigation software supports Points Of Interest. But being able to listen to music through bluetooth stereo headphones and having a turn-to-turn navigation telling you where to go *at the same time* is also what people want. Windows Mobile provides that possibility. iPhone OS doesn't (neither A2DP nor multitasking). There is one single device which provides all that power and possibilities to really use your PDA as what it is - a portable personal computer - and is not powered by Windows Mobile. And that is Nokia N900.
kk you win - there are more win mobile devices than any other and it will take over the world in the next few years.
Time will tell.
I was only being myopic in the sense that I was picking on a couple of apps.
Yes you have POIs but I was picking a type of app as an explanation.
NM - we shall have to agree to disagree.
Well, since the development of most navigation applications started on Windows Mobile, they've got better quality than the software for other platforms.
Also, what do you mean by "was quite advanced and now isn't"? It is still the mobile operating system with working multitasking, huge hardware support, a good bluetooth stack and so on. Don't confuse the graphical shell with the operating system. You can have lots of different UIs for Windows Mobile.
I dont confuse any such thing there are different graphical shells for lots of oses. Yes the mobile routing started on windows. Doesn't mean they didn't take their eye of the ball.
I mean its not advanced with regards to the audience its courting - users and therefore developers.
Do we see augmented/mixed reality on windows mobile? nope.
Or tomtom with intelligent routing? nope.
Do we see modern apps even if they are seen as useless by slashdot geeks on winmob - nope. We might not want to flip a coin or slide a pint of carling but the other OSes are getting hugely more development and some if it actually useful:)
Yes apple's OS can't multithread but people dont care about that when they want to say find a restaurant on a find-a-restaurant app, they want it to work. If it does that - good.
I have never had a prob with my htc hero or iphone os 3 stack or come to that my blackberry storm or my htc kaiser. Some of the earlier xdas were a bit flaky.
I have been winmob for years as an end user and now it doesnt do what I need it to do and by sales figures and looking around me it doesnt do what a lot of others want either. Or people aren't drawn to it. From my perspective business people - use blackberry - not really sure why - but hey.
Then its split between Iphone and other phones with Android coming up behind - again IMHO and in the UK:)
A quick way for me to check this or anyone is to walk the length of a train in a rush hour if you can manage that and do a quick survey.
Winmob is great now if you want a piece of random shareware or something but then that would be free on the marketplace in android or itunes or good enough to pay £5 or whatever in your equivalent currency;).
There is a huge number of turn to turn offline navigation software for Windows Mobile - more, than for any other operating system, because nearly all of those PNA devices are Windows CE based.
Let me name a few (Most of them are availiable in Europe only, though):
Navigon MobileNavigator
NavNGo iGO/Miomap
TomTom
Route 66 Maps
Sygic Drive (Now called Teleatlas McGuider)
Nokia Smart2Go
Destinator
Map&Guide FleetNavigator and TruckNavigator, Falk Navigator
MagicMaps2Go
CompeGPS TwoNav Pocket
Medion GoPal
Navitel Navigator
As you can see, navigation for Windows Mobile was part of my job discription a couple of years ago;-)
There are lots of them I agree, lots does not always equal good quality though.
Then there is modernity of applications - winmob was quite advanced a few years ago and now it isnt - obviously IMHO and experience.
I do. Windows Mobile has still got the most useful apps, real multitasking and lots and lots of features and is also nice to develop for. I personally like it more than any other current mobile OS.
Really - winmob has the most useful apps.
The Iphone has an app for everything:)
but seriously how about layar on Winmob or GoogleNavigation or Google Voice Search even TomTom seems to have become deprecated(?) on winmob.
My winmob has been trounced by Android and Ipod/Iphone apps and I do have all 3 and a Blackberry.
Although I did just develop a gps app for Winmob and apart from it crashing all the time (probably me) it was quite painless.
It could be inferred from the first post poss but I still think it was worth pointing out as people dont generally think of a company wanting to sue itself.
3: Windows Mobile around longer? Yes. Successful? No. That's why they are hurriedly attaching a touch interface modeled on that of the iPhone; to be delivered "real soon now".
Win Mobile was pretty successful in a business setting. Its probably had its day now but think of all the xdas out there before an Iphone was even a twinkle, with screens that you could touch albeit with a stylus and mobile web browsers etc..
I already read books while driving.
Audiobooks, of course.
I can't stand how slow the people read.
use an ipod and the 2 times multiplier then :)
There's a meme that is gonna stick if only I had mod points :)

"One has to wonder if this is another imperial/metric snafu."
I am wondering if its a postage stamp vs metres snafu.
Windows 7 doesn't kill batteries, people kill batteries.
no -wrappers do
Microsoft: Oh yes, the, uh, the Battery...What's,uh...What's wrong with it? Laptop owner: I'll tell you what's wrong with it, my lad. 'E's dead, that's what's wrong with it! Its a Norwegian blue battery.

Actually it was Apple who lowered the interface. Then M$ copied it and pushed the lowered interface out to as many idiots as possible.
Actually it was Xerox:
Xerox PARC
