  1. Re:This type of admin is the bane of users on Security Fears Prod Firms to Limit Staff Web Use · · Score: 1

A sensible policy is that "unapproved" applications are unsupported. This means that if something I install causes problems, I have to resolve them or have my box re-imaged. I'm fine with that. Don't "lock down" my machine, prevent me from doing my job efficiently, and then crow about how you've saved the company money.

I'm assuming you're ok with taking 2 weeks of unpaid leave when you finally do give up and need to have your box re-imaged. Or do you think that admins don't have anything else to do on their hands? Backing-up, re-imaging, reinstallation and data recovery takes time, and there is a queue you know.

Over at my place we do have more flexibility in allowing people to install $gadget_of_the_month on their computer. Including add-ons to IE etc. And then one fine day things don't work properly and they expect you to "fix it".

Let's face it, software restrictions are there for a REASON. And that reason may not always be most convenient for you, but it doesn't mean that the administrators are just out to make your life miserable.

I feel compelled to say that your own view of Christians seems quite biased itself. Think of the Christians living in China and Southeast Asia, minority to an oppressive opposition that for the most part, denies them the right to exist. Or of the Israelis in the Middle East. The tables are turned, yet they don't riot in the streets in protest. So what was your point again? That what your religion teaches you doesn't affect your reaction so much as the oppression you face?

It occurs to me that you americans have never had the chance to see the results of a 20, 30 year structural economic plan come to fruition. Simply because of the fractious nature of the bipartisan system, every time the government changes hands, there's people to tear down everything the previous government tried to set up. I'd go so far as to say that no president would ever design something w/o rewards to be reaped within 4 years.
I'm not saying that a 1-party government is all that hot, it's just that it's something to think about. How do you expect things to get better if you don't allow time for it?
