    I am a computer engineering kid. Sexy hardware gets me hot, tight software that climbs up to a level i've not pondered is sexy to me ... or even down to a level i don't play in.

    But i have to ask, do you ever just look at the sky at night?

    Do you? Do you really sink deep into your mind the vast firestorm that goes on above your head every day and nigh? Do you look at the stars and ... just for a second imagine the roiling, nuclear fire that churns inside each one ... the amount of matter transformed into energy by each one, each second you watch?

    Do you?

    Break your mind for a second and imagine the scale of this place your little planet wanders around .. and marvel your face off.

    i've always kinda liked Sun (grew up on 'em) and even when things seem dark, Sun and Co. come up with something that is pretty damn bold ... and deliver from time to time. Jonathan, at times, seems a little too quick to shoot that mouth off, but damn, sometimes they do come up with some rock solid stuff. At least they have some humor in their bold statements. Makes me wanna see if the balls match the hype.

    Wow. This is just, wow. I wish however is in control these days would spin off the "real hp" into a company unto its own and let the hp we see now continue its moronic quest to mirror Dell. Keep getting rid of the things that made hp and they'll kill hp for good, or at least debase it to a lame Dell knockoff. Sad to see it get this low.

    Who is to say that Drupal, if they get a foundation together, might not use some of their newly found horsepower to support/host other projects that are getting off the ground, or need their help?

    Personally, i'd love to see them use their new stuff for the betterment of their project and a few others. Also, it'd be great to see them take the excess money and invest it in such a way that it can continually pay for their operating costs ... or summer internships for a few kids ... or something useful like that.

    Here's to hoping.

    Agreed.

    i learned from that book. It was just a piece of what we were to read in the class, but a nice piece.

    We also read The Cathedral and The Bazaar in that class.

    Wonderful things learned from both; a nice mix with a programming problem we'd never been faced with and a working-with-a-team element we were new to at that early time in our ed.

    Of course, you are correct. I suck. All film photographers that have ever used a darkroom for anything other than processing suck. Weston sucked. Adams sucked. Anyone that that makes slight adjustments to their digital view camera shots sucks. Everyone in the world that is a professional photographer and does any post-production sucks. You are correct. We are wrong suck. Sure would be nice to as talented as you and *never* touch any photo, digital or analog, that comes straight from the camera. Sucks to be the crappy rest-of-the-world-but-you that we are. Now, go on and take your perfect shots, guy.

    i would encourage anyone who has a daily commute or spends time driving for business to crank the radio over to AM and scan some channels for talk. i've found myself over the last few months when traveling for business (after getting off those damn tin-can jets), listening to more and more talk radio. The crazy right-wingers, the wacko liberals and all the other junk in between and learned a lot. Seriously, found a new show (new to me anyway) Handle on the Law, some guy who's last name is Handle (sp?) that takes calls on legal matters, large and small. Very, very interesting and tons of info i don't normally even think about. Also, it'll do everyone good to listen to right/left wingers in the same day - it'll open your eyes to some real wackiness and some real truths.

    Parent is right on; ditch that crappy, re-played and re-played nonsense and give some talk a shot - it will make you think (sometimes not very kind thoughts, but hey, it happens). :)

    If all else fails, scan the FM dial for a well-funded NPR station - the less-well-funded ones cannot afford to carry 'good stuff' 24/7 so they revert to lesser programming, but give it a spin anyway - you will learn something. :)

    Seems like i hear a lot of some French company is suing for this, or the French have banned this, or the French have made a stink over this or that. There is more of Europe right? Or are they asleep? Or (dare i say it) has the rest of Europe managed to not have a huge chip on thier shoulder? i'm not slamming France, just damn, everytime i turn around, they're raising hell about something.

    i use linux only on my desktop, but for my work laptop when IE7 comes out, i'll try it. If it happens to (no burning me at the stake) work very well on that computer, i'll use it. For some reason or another the National City corp. secure CC site chokes Firefox up every time, but IE flies right through. i use IE for little else on that machine right now, but it'll be interesting to see what the new version brings to the table. i guess i fear that many folks will see the new, although borrowed, features in IE and go back to it since it's a "known" and it can now do all that cool stuff that Fire-thingy (their words, not mine!) did.

    Yeah, i know what will *really* happen; i'll have to go regular telephone, give in to the ISP (which won't give a rat's ass who says what), and deal. Besides, it'd be my company leaning on me to drop VoIP anyway if i can't "make it work" :) Hopefully my ISP will be cool with VoIP and just go with the flow ... hell, i don't pay them for 5mb/1mb for nothin'!! :)

    To "write" a book with glaring errors in very simple timeline work and proclaim to "know all" is idiotic at best. And sure, he got what he wanted out of life, if that is to fuck up what a lot of people thought of him and his integrity. And no, i'm not talking about the 'roids ... i'm talking about telling stories like they are, not how you imagine them to be ... unless you are writing fiction.

To achieve this goal, it uses a number of measures, ranging from warning letters over public documentation of GPL violations, up to legal proceedings. In this year, the project managed to conclude more than 25 amicable agreements, two preliminary injunctions and one court order.

    Sounds like some folks are paying attention to this guy.
