An interesting thought crossed my mind. Perhaps these sites, when they die off could take on a more archival role. After all, for whatever faults they may have, these sites have to respected for the sheer amount of first hand information from such a large number of people they have in their databases. 100, 500, 2000 years from now historians would benefit greatly from being able to analyze the thoughts and creative expressions of thousands of people living in a certain time period. Imagine if we had journal entries, lists of friends, recordings of favorite music and all the other sorts of random individual expression and cultural themes that get expressed on social sites for the ancient Egyptians or Greeks.
One thought that comes to mind is if this could be tuned to maximize reflection of UV in a relatively tight beam (mirror reflecting sunlight tight, not magnifying glass frying ants) it could be used to prank somebody sitting in the shade thinking thier relatively safe from sunburn by angling the display to point the reflection at thier face.
Not exactly a sunburning virus but a similar concept.
This could also cause problems for people like me who learned to type before learning to write, and thus have writing that is horrible and inconsistant, including my signature. If they rely on this too heavily then my checks could be declined because none of my signatures look anything alike (well, with the exception of my grafiti tag, but I dont think using that for my signature on official documents would be a great idea, as it's a stylized "WD" made to look like a demon).
Thanks for your reply. It's by far the most extensive and informative that I've received yet. And you need not worry about me using windows. I've been running pure linux for two years now. I perhaps should of mentioned that in my initial post as many of the replies have directed me towards windows-centric tutorials and resources.
Having read the replies so far, I've decided I'd like to get my hands dirty and start learning assembly. Can anybody reccomend any good books / websites / (cheap) courses to take / etc.?
I just switched over to Xubuntu from Gentoo/Xfce yesterday, and all I can say is "WOW!" I had imported all my settings and got all the software I needed installed within 3 hours, including getting my CD burner working which I was NEVER able to do on Gentoo. When I first installed Gentoo it took me about 2 WEEKS to get most things set up properly.
I think I'm in love. I'll be reccomending [Xu|Ku|U]buntu to everybody from now on (well, unless they're trying to run a server I guess, but in that case I would hope they don't need my opinion!)
Seriously, I understand how internet addiction can take over your life, but being put in a penal institution is not the answer. And mapping out your life until you're 84? You've just had something else take over your life instead. Not much of an improvement in my opinion.
You: anarchists Cat: Libertarians are not anarchists.
You: you got that right sister Cat: To do this, verify that the lock icon appears in the lower right corner of the Internet Explorer window.
You: i run linux you insensitive clod! Cat: Our answers are usually geared towards putting the insensitive questioner in his or her place, but the fact is that sex with a fat partner can present challenges and/or require different techniques.
My idea is to have a touchscreen or button next to LCD interface for the voter to use, alongside a clear window where the user can see the paper trail as its printed, in both human and machine readable formats, and asked to confirm that thier votes are being accurately represented. The machine readable part of the paper trail should include a hash or encrypted representation of the timestamp, which ballot number for this machine it is, and the votes themselves.
My dad tells a story occasionally of how he interviewed for a company and the person who was interviewing him (whose office was simply a few cubicle walls in the corner of a server room) asked if he wanted a beer. My dad not being sure if this was a trick question or not politely declined, to which the interviewer responded "suit yourself" and proceeded to pop up a floor tile and pull out a cold one.
Or even better, a whole array of UAVs. This thing could deploy around 400 Predator Drones and act as a relay station to thier operators on the ground a considerable distance away.

It is the entirely wrong time of day to try to comprehend this one.

Where is the "+1 At-Least-They're-Honest" mod when you need it?
Some of your results seem a bit redundant
I find it interesting how you managed to mis-spell subpoena with it sitting on the title bar of your browser.
You sir, have impeccable tastes. Congratulations on your recent addition to my friends list.
Or maybe they would all start avidly developing games for other platforms?
Build a man a fire and he will be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.
SHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Quiet down or the **AA will hear you and start invading our turf!
