    Paradoxally it is easer to find people willing to work for free on difficult (and interesting) algorithms, than people willing write a lot of trivial code (like a gui :). And this shows up a lot on linux, where we have a lot of very good but difficult to use programs.

    is that they do not want something that is like windows, they just want windows. I've seen people that prefer to do very complicated things on windows rather than running a couple of unix commands. Most people do not "choose" to use linux, they just learn one way to do thing, and this will be "the way" to do things. They are more sure to use windows than you will ever be to use linux, as a superior entity (the computer seller) imposed it to them. Instead you choosed to use linux, you know that there are many OSes, so you'll never be 100% sure that linux is the right choice over all other OSes. How strange is world we are living...

    that, since graphic hardware is now completely programmable, ATI and Nvidia realese their specs, so that everyone can use the GPU as a specialized vectorial coprocessor. A CPU that cannot be programmed freely just makes no sense, the same should be for GPU.

    This was for sure not intended as a flamebait, as there is really no Exa vs Xgl, they are being both developed by Xorg people. BTW, if you mods were just helping me to get a +5 flamebait rating, this is really going to make me happy :-)

    that, as X developers said, this is only a temporary solution, so that while Xgl matures we will have hardware alpha compositing in hardware. The final solution will be pushing the entire hardware abstaction layer (OpenGL) under the Xserver, in order to take advantage of the 3D hardware on the desktop too.

    While i love enlightement, evas just provides i a layer on the top of X (or some thing else). A new x driver architecture is requite to let evas, qt, gtk (and your other favourite toolkits) to really take advantage of you graphic hardware with accelerated alpha blending and window backing store. This is not to compete with evas, just to allow it to do better things.

    something really interesting in the code, now that Solaris is open? People has been saying "Sun will never open Solaris" for month, now that it is open all that they do is to grep "fuck" or "shit", or look for frustrated comments?
