Are you kidding?
BSD is more liberal then GPL, if you don't want your code under GPL you must release it under a more RESTRICTIVE licence!
I think it is quite stupid to licence something under BSD if you don't want it GPL: you are allowing people to do anything with you code but you have a particular hate for GPL?
Linux is GPL, while *BSD are, well, BSD licenced.
There are some things for which BSD licence is better, and for other things GPL is better.
It is inevitable that theese differences will show up in the resultin OS, in some way.
For instance Linux can take code from *BSD (and relicence it as GPL), while *BSD cannot take code from Linux, etc...
The last time i have tries Fedora it was really poor about multimedia...
I know about patent problems, but i could barely play an mp3 with the crappy helix player from Real let's not even talk about playing an (undencrypted!) DVD!!!!!
I think that been able to play most widespread audio and video formats (with Xine or Mplayer) should be a key point for a moder linux distro.
You are forgetting that after installing WinXP you will still have to install a lot of drivers, of which many are difficult to find (many computer producers put drivers in the computer when they are selling it, but after that it is difficult to find them in the internet).
And let's not forget that installing WinXP is a mess if you hae a Serial ATA or SCSI hard-disk...
to have 2 major browser opensource with Firefox (and hopefully KHTML and WebCore will soon merge together, now that WebCore CVS is avalable for KDE developers)
looking for complicated solutions to simple
problems? Use Firefox and you are done, without
having to look for IE memory leaks.
I know of peole that prefers having to solve very
complicated problems with crashy win32 apps, then
writing a couple of simple commands on the Linux
prompt:-)
why so many video card producers do not want to release specs? Because with DirectX/DRI programs in userspace can access directly the hardware, and since the hardware is flawed they could easily gain root/Administrator privileges:-)
I was surprised to find on./ a title such as "The End of Mathematical Proofs by Humans?", but after reading the article i realized that the computer is only beeing used to speed-up calculations and the ideas are still born in the analogic human brain.
I have always used computer programs in math to solve equation, to probe combinatorial game theory problems, etc... When you find a way to make the computer "invent" proofs, just let me know, i'll call it AI.
1. An advanced interprocess architecture, right now
almost everything still has to be done will unix sockets
2. The ability to have something like hurd translators. I know linux is monolithic, but user level translators would be a good "nice to have".
the ease of use of Unix with the security of Internet Explorer.
doesn't know what to do.
that Sun is taking opensource seriously.
It was 13 June, but i have just realized that is it 1 April instead...

having a large market share is more important then being able to stop piracy...
Dear moderators, don't mod down if you don't understand.

why novell/readhat instead of pushing the amount of money they do with gnome, don't pay trolltech to make Qt LGPL.
should prevent my child from doing immoral or stupid things, such as installing linux on his computer...
Does freedom bothers him too?
Point me to a link to the video that teaches how to use the mouse!
