Maybe Dell is comparing the VGA port of onboard graphics vs. DVI/HDMI of a discrete card. I do notice a difference between VGA and DVI on a 17" monitor.
I agree there is a discernible difference between analog and dvi output quality, though on an advertisement image that size and quality both would be indistinguishable at native resolutions for the display.
A snapshot of one of BBN's other training games (VESSEL) is available on their website. While not quite on the same level as Farcry, it does a little bit better than text only:]
This is true, and additionally most military grade simulators generally don't look like Farcry, I've worked on a $30 million dollar Lockheed flight simulator, and in the early 1990s it had probably graphics on par with microsoft flight simulator 98, or thereabouts.
I've also played with an Infantry simulator that was built on the operation flashpoint engine..fun stuff.
As much as Slashdot crowd hates anything cloud, I think cloud based backups for small businesses would be perfect. They just have to make sure they get one with backup guarantee and SLA (ie., don't just get Dropbox - get actual quality one that tailors to such services).
Small businesses don't have a lot of internet bandwidth (speaking as a small business owners.)
Well... maybe not ban pencils... but perhaps force people to need a license to obtain a pencil- and maybe go through a 60 day wait period to stop crimes of passion.
Pencils are a dangerous weapon!
- I'm just not sure what they would use to fill out the application form for the license.
It should be noted that an Apple MacBook with an SSD boots almost instantly. But that should come to no surprise because Apple owns both the hardware and OS. They can optimize as they wish.
The 13" i7 / 4GB / 256GB SSD Macbook Air takes as long to boot OSX Lion as it does to boot Windows 7.
From TFA it appears that this thing is just a retrofitted maybe slightly scaled up 50lb RC Helicopter. It probably has less than stellar range and endurance, and is much less stable than a quad/hex/octo rotor design.
$300,000 is so obviously a total ripoff, but I'm guessing "Homeland Security grant" budget is a massive one.
They could have done this for less than $5,000 with any one of the existing quad or hex rotor systems in the market, and their accompanying electronics modules. Or they could just buy Predator drones or wait until the military upgrades from them and take them over for free, it's not like they can't afford to spend some pocket change on the war on drugs/terror/bogeymen.
With the imminent success that will be Star Wars: The Old Republic launch (jury still out on whether this sucesss will last very long), every company in the MMORPG business is scrambling to stay relevant or minimize losses. SWG will fold December 10 (source: Google), Rift dropped the initial price of the game to a ridiculous $4.99 and is offering some free weekends, FF is getting revamped.
I say from a business perspective, Square Enix is right. FF is still hot property. Milk it while they can!
Bioware is taking an unusual step to ensure a smoother launch, they are intentionally limiting the release quantities of the game to reduce server load at launch.
That said I was one of the idiots that bought the collectors edition for FFXIV also, and played for about 4 months mainly crafting and hoping that they would fix the broken game soon. Then came the server outages from the quake/tsunami/reactor breach event and I think this might have been the nail in the coffin of a game that was launched sorely incomplete.
They are going to have a hell of a time clawing players away from SWTOR, Diablo 3 and likely another WoW expansion, I wish them all the best, but it is incredibly unlikely that I will be counted among their paying subscribers.
Suppose a Microsoft employee became a serial killer or a child molester, does it mean it's Microsoft's legal responsibility?
If Microsoft was a religion that was conducting cover-ups for this employee for over a decade? Yes I'd suggest it was their legal responsibility, and they'd be lucky to get away with a cash settlement.
Wow, no, dude. If I found undeniable child porn (not a kid in the bath or something likely to be innocent), I'd stop what I was doing, call the cops, then call my boss. I'm not going to run the risk of having some kiddy-diddler get off (no pun intended) because he could make a case that I'd tampered with the evidence or simply that the evidence had been mishandled. Let the cops do their forensic analysis using tools and methods that are accepted in the relevant court(s).
I'd also be inclined to act in a similar manner. Less liability for all non-guilty parties involved.
Absolutely not. Limiting myself to fantasies I had today at work, I can think of three - running my boss over with a car, having sex with the married hottie, and taking an axe to a certain server - that I would never act upon. I can't bring myself to believe that people who fantasize about children are somehow the only ones who must, without fail, act on their every dark desire.
Whilst I agree that running your boss over and taking an axe to a server are fairly unlikely impulses to act upon, having sex with aforementioned married hottie is something that could very realistically happen is an appropriate situation presented itself.
Of the three it is the only activity that is not illegal, immoral maybe, but certainly not illegal.
Does possession of child porn constitute "reasonable cause to suspect"?
You'd have to ask the judge and jury.
Also, thank you for thinking about the law instead of jumping on the "hate hate hate + guilty until proven innocent" bandwagon. I'd mod you up if I hadn't wasted all my points for the day.
In theory this would be the case, except that they already have a problem with child abuse / molestation which is increasing appearing to be a systemic problem, they should have reported this for their own sake if not for the sake of their communities and the reputation of their religion in general.
Say what you want about Yahoo! but it is not "money-losing". Yahoo! is profitable. Yes, top-line growth has been a problem but management of the bottom line has driven profits UP not DOWN. Bing may be losing money hand over fist but Yahoo! is still bringing in the cash.
I bet the folks who love to keep beating on Yahoo! also kick puppies for fun...
The point was never whether they were "money-losing" the argument was always that the company was _grossly_ overvalued at $44.6B. And that Yahoo was stupid enough to refuse that offer when it was made.

Where you go sure can help, though.
True, assuming you can do it without incurring huge student loan debt.

Except for the little part where the LTO5 tape drive costs $5000 - $10,000?
and this would be the problem with clicking submit while you're still previewing your post..

Blood.
I was going to say the same thing, why not just couple your old 56K modem to your VOIP phone service?
Don't let that stop you, squid info wants to be posted!
Because someday Cephalopoda will rule the Earth, and we'd better be prepared!

Additionally, if you've tried to change the default IE search engine from Bing to Google or anything else, you'd see how they're achieving this.
Chrome has 3 big buttons, Google, Yahoo, Bing. IE has obscured the setting for default search engine under several layers behind slow loading servers.
TFA seems to suggest that these batons are bean filled bags which will be launched at the targets, and not so much hand to hand weapons.
Oooh or maybe it's to designate terrorists so that Laser guided munitions can be delivered onto them!
The laser designator is probably intended primarily to intimidate the target, or to direct ground personnel to the target.

I'm willing to wager that they used pure capsaicin crystals to spike the curry, and not just Bhut Jolokias.

And that Yahoo was stupid enough to refuse that offer when it was made.
Lots of pontificating about how terrible the very idea is from fat and clueless basement dwellers.
Must be that time of year once more.
How are your Yahoo shares doing? regretting your board's incredibly stupid decision to not sell when they could huh?
It was a bad idea then, it's no better of an idea now (and some would argue worse.)
Why not wait another year or two and buy Yahoo for an even bigger discount, something closer to free.
maybe bf3?
I doubt anything could possibly be worse than the Battlefield franchise.
