I personally think religious exclamations like "In God We Trust" or "under god" are profane.
Here, Here. I completely agree with you. I personally feel that the phrase "God Bless America" is the most un-American statement you could make. Yet all these clueless fools (including the ones running the show) seem hell-bent on using it every chance they get.
God Bless America? No thanks, I'd rather he/she/it/whatever didn't.
Or just use someone else's discount card. I found an Acme one a few years back. They never expire, and I still use it to this day.
Plus, it is also not like they validate the information you give them when 'applying' for the cards. They give you the card before even running the information (at least at most markets in Philly) They give them to anybody, just just make up some info and away you go.
Ah, correct you are. I just saw 'rear view' and instantly thought of the one in the middle of the windshield...
Either way, my point still applies. You may not have that one second to look at your side mirror before deciding which way to swerve. But if that information was already in your field of vision (almost subliminally), you could just react.
And if both sides are read, just hit the brakes and hope for the best...
And obviously, 'read' should be 'red'. 'read' is what I should have done to this post before submitting. Ugh.
These sensors should display on the windshield..

I always thought this technology would be great. But forget about displaying a warning on the rear-view mirror. It would be cool if it was hooked up to a HUD on the front windshield. So if someone is next to you, that side of your front windshield (only an inch or two) would be tinted/glowing red (transparent of course).
Sure, it helps when changing lanes, but also when a ladder falls off of the truck in front of you and you have to make a spit second decision (no time to look up at your review) you can just turn away from the 'red'.
And if both sides are read, just hit the brakes and hope for the best...
But part of the problem will probably be getting your resume to people who will recognize your skills. Sure, you submit your resume to a company with tech jobs, but the people in HR are the first to see it. They have no real idea about your skills - they only compare it to what the requirements for the position are. But before they do that, they see 'Enron' or 'SCO', and if they are aware of the problems surrounding those companies, your resume is tossed before it even reaches a tech person to review it.
That's just as bad as blaming the car in an accident ' the SUV ran over the little girl'... no it was the DRIVER that ran her over..
<rant>
See, the beauty of the US legal system is that both the driver of said SUV and the family of said little girl could (and probably would) sue the auto maker.
Along with the Department of Streets, the tire maker, the fast food company whose soda distracted the driver, blah, blah, blah...
And both parties would end up with $$$. Oh, and here in PA, they would sue the doctors and hospital for not bringing the girl back to life.
In Soviet America, the guilty sue the innocent!
</rant>
So in short, yes, you probably could easily get away with saying 'the gun committed the crime'.
Didn't one of the recent worms knock out CSX and Amtrak on the NorthEastern corridor? I take SEPTA rail lines and they use CSX's rails.
Now, I believe the worm knocked out their switching system. IMHO it was just luck that nothing happened. If a switch did not get switched, and two Accela's were heading directly for each other...
That is not true. Yes, the ratings say they are poor quality, but that is just based upon the # of service visits and general 'problems'. Plus Consumer Reporst hates VW. Why? I dunno.
So MK4 VW's have common problems: bad window regulators, bad MAF sensors, bad engine coils. Nothing at all major and are fixed by the dealer for free.
For some reason, Consumer Reports rates Fords well - when the Focus has how many reacalls? Way more than any other car...
So yes, VW's have problems, but nothing like exploding gas tanks or other serious safty issues. I have a Golf and have had the standard set of issues - but it is still the best and most solid car I have ever driven.
People have this idea that VW's used to be perfect and now aren't. That is too false. Old VW's did last a long time - but you had to work to keep them running. Nothing in my mind has changed. You have to deal with some issues, but you end up learing a lot and having one of the best made cars on the road.
But that is just my $0.02. I'll be a VW owner forever. (TDI Golf will be my next purchase!)
On a positive side note, maybe this latest outbreak of worms, virus and trojans (oh my!) will help educated people about the folly of just hooking everything up to the internet!
Or at least make them aware of the folly of hooking things up to the internet without a good firewall.
Yes you are. Just the same if your kid goes online, gets the Terrorist Handbook or whatever, makes a bomb, and blows up the school.
Sure, then the parents bitch about how the internet needs to be censored - "Who cares about free speach anyway - as long as I don't have to actually parent and watch the little rat bastards..."
Apparently parenting has become overrated. Damn breaders.
So True. I have been on many a project that I have invested years of work, research, coding, blood, sweat, and tears on only to have it cancelled at some point. Yeah it sucks, but I still have a job. Do I go an get 'revenge' and leak the source. No.
If you were being paid, it belongs to the company and it is up to them what to do with it, not you. You can ask if they will open soure it, but it is up to them. I cannot imagine how one would keep their job if they did this - not to mentioned being attacked by the former company's legal squad.
Don't get me wrong, I am all for open source and GPL, but be honest about it, not vengeful.
So many people seem to be bitching that 'Sampling is stealing' or 'Sampling is not stealing'. Just because an artist has samples of something in their song, does not mean they stole it. The artist could have received permission to use the sample, or may have purchased it. It also does not mean that the artist does not have samples. 'Samples' do not have originate from music either. You can sample movies, news broadcasts, video games - anything with sound.
I'm fan of industrial and EBM, and many of those artists use samples also. Yes, a good amount tend to be from movies or TV, but it is the same deal.
Plus what is with all the suing? A lot of times the artist's have had to pull CDs (Apothesis, KMFDM, countless others) for using samples without permission.
Thought that I would chime in. I have an old Xerox 4004 Inkjet that I bought back in 94-95 for about $250. Sure, it is black ink only and only about 300dpi, but it is still working perfectly without a hitch. 9 years for a printer? Pretty damn good IMHO.
Makes me laugh when all my friends HP color inkjets and Lexmarks crap out after 1-2 years.
Of course, I have no idea what the quality of the new Xerox inkjets is like.
I was (unfortunatly) doing some research yesterday on the support lifecycle of some OS's, and NT4 was one of the ones that I investigated. This page at MS shows that they will stop supporting NT4 this Summer.
So maybe they just figure why bother when the end is near for NT4 anyway. Not that that is a good excuse, but it makes sense in the big business world.
If you take it all into perspective, this 30 gig of storage is not really that much. At least 6 years ago, I helped clean out the 'Clover' (an old department store) offices in Philadelphia. One of the boxes we took was full of 1.6 gig rw optical disks (looked exactly like these new 30 gig ones). I was so estatic - there were 50 of these disks.
Now, back in 1996-1997, 1.6 gig on removeable media (not counting tape) was pretty damn cool, especially since the largest hard drives were what, 10 gig?. I thought I was going to have 80 gigs of removable storage. But after I checked the price of the drives (1000+), the disks just stayed in the box.
So I can see these catching on in the corperate world for massive data backups, but probably not in the consumer market, IMHO. That is, unless, the drives are on the same pricing level as CD/DVD burners.
What are you talking about? The US media *NEVER* lies and never provides only a one-sided view of an issue... Just look at FOX, they are the pinnacle of non-biased journalism.
Why did this get modded as "Funny"... I am being completely serious... Oh well, It is worth checking out IMHO. Yes, learning a new layout can be a real pain, but after a few weeks I was really glad that I switched. I am not saying it is a solution, but it is an option...
I personally think religious exclamations like "In God We Trust" or "under god" are profane.

So true. The only decent station ever in Philly was WDRE before it switched to 'urban' format.
Drexel's and Princeton's stations are good if you can catch the shows that interest you. And if you are within 5 miles of campus
Now, if you want to here the same 3 Dave Matthews songs over and over, tune in to Y100.
I may turn the stereo in my car back to radio once I can get internet radio on it. Until then, CD's only please.

Justice has been served.

Now, I believe the worm knocked out their switching system. IMHO it was just luck that nothing happened. If a switch did not get switched, and two Accela's were heading directly for each other...
Who would you blame for that?
And the Passat TDI Wagon (and Sedan?) are coming out soon too I believe...
That is not true. Yes, the ratings say they are poor quality, but that is just based upon the # of service visits and general 'problems'. Plus Consumer Reporst hates VW. Why? I dunno.

'breeders' even. My parents didn't teach me how to spell/type. Or preview for that matter.

Apparently you are not familiar with the US judicial system. Since when does the US practice what it preaches?
So True. I have been on many a project that I have invested years of work, research, coding, blood, sweat, and tears on only to have it cancelled at some point. Yeah it sucks, but I still have a job. Do I go an get 'revenge' and leak the source. No.

Usurper was a great game also. Played that and LORD religiously on any local BBS.
I was also a HUGE fan of Mutants!, but that was only on MajorBBS.

Yes, Thank God. Because Amerika is 'Right', if your beleifs are different, you will be assimulated.
Nothing like force feeding your beliefs down someone else's throats..
Why pay for some type of filter when SpamAssassin is free (as in speech)?
