    You're right, I neglected to say which direction the timeout should go. It's definitely reduce the TCP and UDP timeout values to 120 seconds. One of the problems with P2P is establishing many connections to flaky systems or networks. Your client (and router hold the connection open, waiting for response that never comes. That fills up the connection table and makes it hard to establish other, more productive ones.

    You want to reduce the time your router waits from 1 hour, as it's currently set, to two minutes.

    In the Administration section, on the Management page, make some changes to the IP Filter Settings. Set the Maximum Ports to 4096 (the maximum), and the Timeout values for both TCP and UDP to 120 seconds.

    Running Azureus used to kill all the other network activity on my LAN. These changes made all the difference in the world.

    Ever notice how stuff on TV in most countries is peppered with advertising? Completely agree. Commercials drive me up the wall. And even the bad shows are lousy with them. Fortunately, most of the good stuff comes out a little while later on DVD, with no ads. And the kicker is, the local library has many of them. Gratis.

    If you don't mind not being current with the latest TV-induced craze, it's a reasonable solution.

    The idiomatic expression is cut and dried. It means ready-made, predetermined and not changeable. For example, "The procedure is not quite cut and dried. There's definitely room for improvisation."

    It originally referred to herbs for sale in a shop, as opposed to fresh, growing herbs.

    I'm a Mac user and I need access to Windows because I have to test my Java code on Windows.
    Yup, me too. The question still remains, "Why Vista?" Why devote that large a chunk of your resources to an OS that spends most of its time making sure you're not being naughty?

    I mean, XP is bad enough, but can be tamed. And it's going to be sufficient for any Windows operation you might want to perform on a Mac. I've got it running under Parallels, and it's not so bad.

    But no way Vista is going on any of machines: Mac, PC, or other.

    if you are presenting an argument to a judge or jury, you are not responsible to provide information to them that incriminates your client or their cause. In fact if you did so you wouldn't be a good lawyer. You're quite right, and that's the problem with our adversarial system of jurisprudence: the parties most familiar with the case are not concerned with truth, justice, or fairness, only with winning. Juries, which often comprise unsophisticated thinkers, all called upon to see through the presentations of both sides, and somehow arrive at an equitable verdict.

    No, not in favor of the distributor. Apple gets about enough to cover its costs, plus a few cents per track. Maybe.

    So who's making out like bandits? Same old same old, the labels. There was a story a few weeks ago about how they deduct from the artists' cuts charges for liner notes, warehousing, spoilage, and so on, for downloaded songs.
