is this seen as a scandal the world over, or just in America?
This is a world-level scandal. Look at the awards the illegal gymnasts have won, think of the other competitors who followed the rules and finished one place out of medal contention. China is making a mockery of was once a good thing. Does China even know how much of a fool they look to the rest of the world with their stance on human rights, privacy and now even this, cheating at the very olympic games that are supposed to be showing how superior they are? If anything, China is proving just how corrupt their whole system of government has become. People's Republic my arse. As if the people have a say anymore.
Um. Anymore? When was China ever run by the people? That is why it is called a Communist Oligarchy, it has never been run "by the people" that would require an actual Democratic Republic.
Apple is also coming out with the iUnicorn 6G and (Now with Horn!) it will be ridable, require no feeding, able to fly, and it will shoot rainbows out of it ass while it cures cancer and AIDS in the onlookers below. Look for the iUnicorn 6G in Apple Stables starting this Christmas for a starting price of 299, 399 with glitter.
I can't even begin to comment on the stupidity of some of these statements. The best one by far:
Since US is now in a deeper recession than one USSR had in 80's, I guess, we will see, how US government, lead by Bush who is even dumber than Gorbachev, will handle the same situation.
So the U.S. is in a recession? Deeper than the USSR in the 1980's?! Please take an econ class and prompty shut the fuck up about subjects you obviously have no command of.
Blah Blah Blah, [Insert Software Company here] is bad cause they don't port to Linux, come on, get a clue. Apple is supposed to devote valuable time and resources to support a small minority of sysadmins that haven't switched to a mac yet? Go out and buy a 999.00 iBook and run iTunes that way, as well as Office, Adobe apps, Macromedia apps, etc. etc. etc. Jeeze.
Thats not the point. I am not talking about which one is BETTER, just which one will be more successful. Let's face it, Apple is not targeting unix sysadmins with the iPod! They are targeting consumers. Consumers are sheep. (Which explains M$ dominance in the OS market) Please read the comment next time. Am I saying the iPod is BETTER? Nope, my point is that the competiton has a long way to go to make a simplier, more elegant product. The iPod will always dominate as long as they have the easiest to use and stylish player. Technology is a very low factor in the over buying decison for most consumers.
Reason to fear iRiver? Please, while the iRiver is geek friendly, mere mortals that have them (one sorotity chick I know comes to mind) hate them. This particular girl got one as a gift from her geek boyfriend instead of an iPod which is what she wanted. Not only does she not use it, she actually actively dislikes it. To some too many "features" means confusing. The beauty of the iPod is its consumer (lowest common denominator) friendly human interface. This is what any competitor has yet to beat.
