My washer and dryer have time delay options on them already. Home automation won't move clothes between units or fold the clean laundry when it's done. Page me when it will.
I'm currently involved in a 'Smart grid' rollout. The HAN component is currently de-scoped, but is intended to be included post 2012.
A number of collegaues and I have been trying to identify how this will actually benefit that aveage consumer.
The vast majoriy of eletrical devices we use in the average domicile are on demand devices. That is, they draw power when we use them, and we use them at a time when we most need/desire to do so.
To gain significant benefit from load shifting consumption will come from demand shifting. But people will still want to watch their favourite TV show when they get home from work before they go to bed. The fridge will still be on 24x7. They will still run the AC during the evening on hot days. There are very few patterns of significant consumption which can be moved. Maybe run your laundry overnight on a timer, but you can only run one load a night.
Unless people are load balanced - different schedules creating different peak demand periods - this will have only a minor impact.
I've had a conversation recently with the CIO of a major business who didn't quite understand why backups were worthwhile. He said something along the lines of "how does this help the business sell more widgets?".
Hence JSOX and other governance requirements being legislated to make businesses take their accountability and audit trails seriously.
The almost invisible blue hyperlinks on the patterned black background was what made it a real Geocities page for me. That and the "Best viewed in Netscape Navigator" link on the bottom.
I recently purchased a USB charger which came with 2 cables. 1st cable was an iPod/iPhone cable and the 2nd cable was a micro-USB cable. There are 2 USB ports on the wall-wart component. Simple.
A lot of audio books are also a performance by the person doing the reading (at least in the case of fiction). They deliberately try to colour the reading in order to convey emotion. A TTY convertor isn't going to give you that flavour.
But ultimately which you prefer or value more iwll be a personal preference.
I must admit, that is the bit I can't understand. Do all these celebrities really think that being famous gives you a free pass on rape? Most of the articles I've read keep defining it as stautory rape - that is sex with someone incapable of giving consent due to age (or mental age?). This was both statutory and ACTUAL rape. Sorry. He knew it was wrong. Throw the book at him.
What I find astonishing is that people can get a stable enough connection to use 3GB of data on the Optus network. I work in the CBD of Melbourne and it's a 50/50 proposition whether I can get a 3G connection on my iPhone.
You might not be taking it far enough!

I thought that, until I joined an organisation that used Lotus Notes.
PST oh how I miss thee.
My cats can open doors and pick up tools. The scariest thing I can think of is cats with opposable thumbs.
I also have 2 cats.
Given the choice between getting cuddles from 6 cats or an envirnomentalist, I know which I'd choose.

That page passed right through appalling and out the other side to awesome. So much win.

That explains the pricing structure on BBC DVDs at the local DVD store. :(
I keep wanting to buy Torchwood and Dr Who, but it costs 4 times the price I pay for the average HBO series.
Lets not even start on the price of old series like Blakes 7, which have not dropped in the several years they have been out.
Hand on my heart - this is true.
I used to work at a company that had the following names on the staff directory: Wayne Carr, Wayne Kerr, Wayne King.
Either their parents never said the full name out aloud beofre the christening, or they were particularly mean spirited.
I like to play rogues, my preference is for 2 x 50' of silk rope. Same weight, more versitility.
I have definately used more user-friendly content management systems.
A radiographer is like a photographer and takes the X-rays.
A radiologist is a Dr trained to read the resulting images.
My mother was a raidographer and nuclear medicine technician.
What about 'Rock Band'?
The closest equivalent would be drunken signing of Tom Lehrer or Monthy Python after a bozzy Christmas party.
It's a cunning part of the Switch campaign to make Windows users feel at home.
MS Word 5.1a was the best version for features vs. performance vs. stability/reliability.
Hrm... my husband is looking for work atm. Looking at porn all day would be right up his alley, so to speak. I wonder if they're hiring.

Please. Feel free to come and collect them. Really. We love a good laugh.
WTF is a Jason movie?

Regularly even.
