  1. Re:voodoo users on The 5 Users You'd Meet in Hell · · Score: 1

I've encountered "voodoo users" of all ages - I have a colleague in her early twenties who has to write down every step in how to complete a task in standard software applications she has been using for over two years in our office, and cannot do it without her notes.

At the same time my mother who is in her 70s can reinstall the operataing system software on her computer unaided.

The difference is a choice made by the user whether they believe they should be able to learn how to do the activity. Some poeple would rather avoid learning about something than risk potential failure should they try to learn.

It's the single most frustrating thing about tech support - answering the same questions for the same people time and time again becuase they refuse to learn.

What will be interesting to see is whether the filtering and censorship of LJ will be more or less stringent than it was previously.

Earlier this year we had uproar due to fanfic heavy accounts being blocked and assorted accusations regarding slashfic being porn and potentially kiddie porn in the case of Harry Potter fic.

I wonder if moving out of the US juristriction for the 'publisher' will affect the degree in which copyright violations are pursued.

It would be good if you could selectively hide aspects of your profile based on the 'friend' category you put people in.

The biggest factor in longevity is fitness and activity levels. A Fit Person who is overweight has a higher expected longevity than an Unfit Thin person.

Please note that fitness does not equate to weight band. There are plenty of exceptionally fit people who register as having high weight due often to improved muscle tone.

Which doesn't say you shouldn't worry about being overweight - but activity levels is by far the biggest factor. Just because you are naturally thin does get you a free pass to park on the couch.

I was astonished the first time some random guy opened a trade window and gave me stuff out of the blue.

All my WoW toons are female with the exception of one bank alt. The main reason is I don't think much of the male avatars as a general rule.

At RPG tournament level I've probably played more male than female characters - due mostly to the fact that game designers often didn't include female characters in the senarios. Or if they did they were T&A fluff.

My RPG campaign characters are mostly female because it's easier for me that way. Though I've had a few male characters along the way.

The guys I play tabletop RPGs with play a mix of male and female toons. It only pisses me off when one guy in particular always tried to play ugly chicks obsessed with getting impregnated by the heir of any particular kingdom we happen to be in at a the time. Not sure what that says about his view of women.

Another possible theory is that the RIAA perceive women to be in the same category as children and pensioners - easy marks who will fold and pay up rather than fight, and are consequently sueing more women than men.
