    I have been using customized errorpage since Apache 1 supported it;
    A lot of these pages are still to be found on the Internet archive dating back in the 90's...
    Whenever someone goes to http://myserver/username/directory it looks up in an internal database where to go to if the user or directory doesn't exist.

    So, now I am doing this illegally .. suddenly ? .. What's the scope ? ..

    I've even written a door for it, cmfdprot for the client side, cmraviri for the board.

    Any file coming in through the modem/internet was automatically scanned upon drop after zmodem/ftp had finished it's transfer.
    Any messages with attachments had the same treatment; I've never spread a virus through my BBS in the 7 years it was open.

    You ever made the same mistake twice? I have, I don't call myself stupid and I call the mystery of living the best tutor around.

    We got a saying around "First children learn from their parents, after a while parents learn from their children" ...

    It's evolution.. the strongest will survive and the weakest will perish. Too bad there are so many humans trying to be the strongest to overthrow the weakest; although always do think about one thing, the thing you are complaining at; from someone else you could have been doing a dozen time before unnoticed in a different way ...

    If more people could live -and- learn with their mistakes it would be a better world already *dreaming* ...
    And well, some people are really just too stupid to learn because they don't want better or already feel ok with their life.

    .. where the browser checks out which tags get used in the page -before- displaying the content?

    Most incompatibilities will be caused because of tags that are added to such page which are not standard.
    If those tags, like the MARQUE tag is present, it could already switch to IE6 compatibility mode.
    An extra tag could be forseen to prevent such autoswitching.

    Or am I thinking too simple here?

    Great! There go those fast coding tests in Perl where you can just add a Content-type: text/html, HTML, BODY and TITLE tag to get somewhere as output.
    Now I've got to program in CSS sheets too even when I don't want them .. so in which case is this an improvement ?

    I'm sure there are more people doing the same?
    An improvement would fasten up the job, make it easier, not more ackwards to be obligated to do even more steps.

    By programming more to the web standards, so their application would work in IE6, IE7, Firefox, Opera or any good client available. Web enhancements should not be the major navigation for a website; they should be enhancements.

    I am already telling years to some to keep a design basic and enhance it with css, java etc for the powerusers; but don't enhance it to an OS or specific browser. I guess now they'll understand why.

    Tiny differences in a webapplication cannot be a problem,
    but if they are going to program only towards one platform they get burned later (now)...

    What I never understood is why they made them backgrounds so white; my eyes are overexposured almost continuesly. I got to turn all the backgrounds black again to have that retro style back. Some users have their backgrounds set to hi-contrasting colors ready to blow off your head into atleast 216 pieces (the amount of webcolors).

    I'd say, let's have a strike all of us, bring back the retro! Bring back the 7 to 9" screens! I want my black backgrounds back! Back to the old days!
    Boycott VGA! ... now let me continue look to my porn in EGA .. it's the sadomachochistic side inside of me ;)
