Submitter, I seriously doubt that "Pluto" gives a damn what we think of it.
Humans who have some ego/emotion/investment in the idea that Pluto be a planet, well that's another thing.
Power going out to the Northeast US isn't exactly Armageddon, now is it?
Even if the global economy collapsed due to some mass power outage, life would go on. It's incredibly shortsighted to compare such things to "The End Of The World(tm)". Get some perspective.
Except this coating seems to be for high-speed point of force impacts (like a bullet), not so much for a large surface area impace (someone throws a brick at you). I suspect that if you coat your car with this stuff and ram something else it will still crumple fairly quickly:)
2 Seperate things here.
#1 - "Virus" implies code that can be executed to create a security breach.
#2 - Incorrect Data (what you're talking about). There are ways around this problem, but the article is talking about using the very small amount of data that can be stored on RFID chips as a vector for attack on the software/database it is stored in, and the above comment applies to this.
This article can be summed up in the following sentance:
OH NO! Anyone can put ANYTHING on a tag that might be read by database software! Horrors!
C'mon people, this is basic data security 101 - never trust inputs without validation. This isn't a problem with insecure tags, it's a problem with import software/database code.
Lube replenishment?
For.... massive drives?
Some headlines just write themselves. And don't mod me down, you were thinking about how cool it would be to have a peripheral that would do that - this is slashdot, don't lie!
Wrong.
You still set minimum standards which ALL schools must meet and you still certify teachers.
Sure, so the schools with the more wealthy simply exceed standards to the point that they either become standards (and lower income schools fail due to failure to meet new 'standards') and the children that attend them are disadvantaged by simply meeting the 'standard'. The hiked prices at the "Higher End(tm)" schools then force parents with lower income to place their children in "those" schools.
Other side of the tracks, indeed.
And I agree for the most part - except that dosen't cover the freely available end of it. Privatizing schools will simply lead to expensive schools for the rich and less expensive schools with the "undesirables" in them. What we need to have (however it's accomplished) is all-around well funded system that provides everyone with an equal opportunity to learn, without exception. Remember that "equal opportunity" does not mean equal numbers, etc. It means that everyone has an opportunity to show aptitude (in the case of advanced opportunities (AP Classes, etc) and to be provided with a solid basic education wholly from within the system.
Very VERY BAD idea for #2 - having SOME form of freely available public education tends to benefit society as a whole. Unless, of course, it's horribly mismanaged and watered down due to extremely progressivist ideals about "safety" (i.e. it's better the child do NOTHING versus risking harm!) and PCness over truth.
Without getting into the debate much further - please please please stop the whole "Uhh, it sucks and I don't see any direct benefit to it" line and think about the bigger picture. We need to FIX public schools - reinvent them, etc, rather than ABANDON the idea altogether.
Farm Subsidies? Kill em (they're about the most evil economic thing the gvt has done in the last 100 years).
Social Security - it should be your choice!
Public Television - Media Delivery has changed - it's not as if the content isn't available elsewhere, and better. Not to mention the budget bloat (and the incredibly annoying telethons...)
So - players are allowed to create content, such as T-Shirt designs? I'm admittedly not a 2nd life player and 100% not a lawyer, but dosen't this bring up a TON of copyright and IP issues for both the player AND the owner of a "virtual world"?
I'm already mortified by how some laws have adapted to the ability of data/content to be replicated by computers - what happens when real world governments start passing laws on "virtual" populaces and content? Or when the owner of the game world makes decisions about that world that affect IP? Or.... *?*
(And, as an aside, the EULA may not protect the game company in all cases/locations)
I'm glad you do - and I never said it was free, or even worthwhile, just that there is an incentive the company is offering that should be easily apparent from the article.
... this article was less informative than most "paragraph" articles in Popular Science.
Seriously - no examples, pics, discussion of science.... how is this news?
Silly AC:) The whole -point- of eve is player driven content. If you didn't see that, you weren't trying.
And as far as tech support, I can't speak to it - I've never had a software issue...
Actually you're in luck - the problems have been solved....
Of course there are other issues, as there always are with MMORPGS - but the dev response is accurate and insightful if a bit slow sometimes. In either case, they're honest about what they're doing and really don't act like a the faceless corporation that SOE seems to like being lately.
Or perhaps it's simply users who love the game? I am in no way affiliated with EVE - I'm simply a convert. Biased? Damn straight, and with good reason.
Opinions aren't always a bad thing you know:)
To be honest, a big fat SO WHAT.... truth is, SOE screwed the game over so hardcore that even die-hard star wars fans have already moved on. It's splendid that they're creating an emulator, kudos, BUT I seriously doubt they'll see the fan support required to grow further than a curiosity to gamers.
Those of you weeping over this, try http://www.eve-online.com/ Sure it's nothing like SWG, but it's a MMORPG that actually seems to give a damn about it's userbase and isn't catering to the largest $$ segment of the population.... Not that I'm bitter or anything! (Rest In Peace SWG.... Rest in Peace).
Due to the abundance of negative PR this has generated , we have elected to drop this particular case.'
There I fixed that for you.

Remember, Remember, the 5th of November,
of gunpowder treason and plot.
For I see no reason that gunpowder, treason,
should ever be forgot.
Dear DownWithTheMan,
We'd like to thank you for your "If I don't know it's there, it must not be" attitude. We'll be seizing your assets now.
Sincerely,
Black Hat Pirates

It's what happens when you eat beans right before going in the hottub.

Obviously it's not Cold Fusion, but beggars cannot be choosers

...can these be modified by someone with nasty goals in such a manner that they might actually bring down an airplane? Disturbing thought if true....

andCorona?!? I almost got excited there, until I saw "supercomputer".
Who marked this insightful? They're offering free Union wide internet OR profit sharing. Why? Money/access, you clod.
