    If the per capita income of China is $1,000 U.S., I think ~$500 is going to be expensive. On the other hand, HP is probably targeting the city folks who are making a bit more. (Trying to find those figures...)

    I was wondering about that myself. Let's say that everyone works enough in their first 100 years that they can save/invest enough so that they never have to work again - ever. Now, you have 900 years of retirement doing whatever you want. Now you just have a lot of money, only 10% of the people who are able to work do so and the other 90% don't produce. This is assuming that most people are disciplined enough to have that kind of financial plan. - There, I just shot my own idea down the toilet - everybody would live the same way financially, only over a longer period of time. I guess we'd see 300 year mortgages and as a result a typical family home would cost, what, $2,000,000?

    possesion

    with intent to distribute
    and any other bogus charge that will get you sent to jail to do hard time for something that really doesn't harm anyone.

    Think of all those people who are doing hard time for just having one joint!

    I'd like to add that Open Source is a cheap way for IBM to take chunks out of Microsoft's market without having to invest too much in software development themselves, like they tried to do with OS/2 Warp and the purchase of Lotus.

    It's also a cheap/free way for them to offer some of their "own" software solutions.

    I had similar thoughts. Also, I'd like to add to the contest how well the software was designed? Or how well it it can be maintained?

    If we get into subjective things like that, then this contest will become like rythmic gymnstics - an art not a sport.

    How unfortunate. I'm sure everyone here has at least one piece of hardware they could contribute; I submit my #9 Imagine128 graphics card, which I never did get to work under RH9, despite it being in the list of supported cards.

    I didn't find anyone else that mentioned that card. I thought that was very informative myself - more evidence that the list of supported hardware isn't perfect and that we all should investigate more before buying hardware - i.e. searching for posts like yours so we don't spend money on a card that doesn't work. Thank you, I found your post helpful.

    Sorry that you bought a card that doesn't work. :(

    You raise a very good point about the hardware being obsolete.

    To compromize, I'd like to suggest that, yes, they can release binary only drivers, BUT the manufacturer cannot restrict reverse engineering.

    Just a suggestion to get some ideas flowing. It kills me that some hardware isn't being supported because of manufacturers reluctance to release source.

    You know that the DOJ will want to be able to view your household temperature without you knowing it (PATRIOT ACT). You see, they'll check the temp to see how warm you're keeping your house. If it matches too closely with the temperatures of the climates of countries that host terrorism, you'll get a visit from the Feds. It'll be the same thing for web contolled lighting - gee, this guy keeps his lights on the exact same time as daylight in Irag, and the same temp. We need to investigate!
