Derivate works, or parodies? If we had full functioning DRM that no one objected to, wouldn't it hurt both of these currently non-copyrighted covered uses?
"No, I'm arguing that countries which sign the Kyoto agreement and then proceed to increase their emissions at a higher rate than the US have no business criticizing the US for not signing the Kyoto protocol."
Oh, then you're just wrong.
As you see below, these countries would be allowed to increase their emissions under the protocol, while those countries who have polluted the worst ALREADY need to start ramping down.
You can argue the merits of the protocol for sure but you're current stance is somewhat faulty. I would say that singling out the US (even though I don't think we are being singled out) would be appropriate given the level of emissions we have already deposited into the Earth that we all should be sharing.
"The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change agreed to a set of a "common but differentiated responsibilities." The parties agreed that
1. The largest share of historical and current global emissions of greenhouse gases has originated in developed countries;
2. Per capita emissions in developing countries are still relatively low;
3. The share of global emissions originating in developing countries will grow to meet their social and development needs.[8]
In other words, China, India, and other developing countries were exempt from the requirements of the Kyoto Protocol because they were not the main contributors to the greenhouse gas emissions during the industrialization period that is believed to be causing today's climate change.
However, critics of Kyoto argue that China, India, and other developing countries will soon be the top contributors to greenhouse gases. Also, without Kyoto restrictions on these countries, industries in developed countries will be driven towards these non-restricted countries, thus there is no net reduction in carbon."
"Of all the consoles, the Wii is the one that I'd definitely want to be there at a party. If it came down to the other two, I've got an Xbox and a PS2 with fun multiplayer games already, and I don't know why the next ones are that much more special when playing games with others."
You know that's a good point also, I own a PS1/PS2 gamecube, Wii, had most of the other consoles (super NES, sega, etc..) and by far nintendo seems to cater towards muliplayer gaming.. gamecube comes with support out of the box for 4 controllers and a majority of their games seem to be multiplayer oriented.... the Wii seems to be continuing in this trend, with the PS2/1 you had to buy an extra "special" extender to make 4 controllers available and then one version of the extender wasn't compatible with another in between versions...
I don't know about Xbox tho as I have only payed it a few times and don't remember off hand.
As is apparent by our current moderations. oh well, good thing I don't troll and have good karma.
Speaking from experience, I really can recommend the Wii, it is the most fun I have had with a console so far and even my wife (who traditionally is not a gamer) loves playing it... and we only have the sports and Rabbid Rabbits Rayman Game... we spent the initial 250 for the console package (hunting for it daily) and then spent an additional 180 for 3 more wii motes and nunchucks...
The ONLY caveat i would add is that some of the games seem to only use the wii motes because they can, not because they add any additional functionality or add anything to the gameplay.. Marvel adventures i'm looking at you...
"Over time, the country which expands it's emissions at a higher rate will surpass a country which expands at a slower rate, regardless of the initial figures."
Right, if percentages were a constant, which they aren't, you even admit that this is true. Of course there will be initial higher percentages when they first start producing these emissions, to use those figures as a basis for your proof that the US does less harm is just downright misleading the discussion.. but I think you know that already.
Are you really arguing that because these countries have a higher percentage than the US, but drastically lower overall total emission level, that they should be held more accountable than the US for limiting their production of these emissions?
"Couple this with the fact that more Wii's shipped than PS3s, and you can conclude that there is a higher demand for the Wii than PS3. "
Facts mean nothing to fanbois, the GP doesn't care how many PS3s are available, how hard it is to get a Wii, or how many units have sold.. all that matters is that the PS3 "cannot" be proven inferior.
"Who said anything about the ozone? I said greenhouse gases. That includes that big-bad-boogeyman, CO2. Here:
US greenhouse gas emissions have grown 16% since 1990, hardly a point of pride, but slower than Kyoto signatories New Zealand (21%), Ireland (23%), Canada (27%), Portugal (41%) and Spain (49%).
How 'bout them apples? "
When someone has the largest emissions worldwide, a smaller "increase" than other nations means squat. 1 million added to 1 billion is a lot more than 100 added to 200, but percentage wise it is only 10% compared to 100%.
"So you see, parables are used so that those that don't already know god can't learn anything from them, I mean jeez, otherwise they might change their ways and be forgiven."
And why we should throw our pearls before swine, as they may turn and rend us.
If they had wanted to know more about God, what better time then when Jesus was there? But rather they would misinterpret what he was saying (like the above poster) because their primary concern was not living a Godly life but to malign God.
"I love that skit but I never understood how the person who made up the joke survived long enough to put it down on paper..."
Voice Over: This man is Ernest Scribbler... writer of jokes. In a few moments, he will have written the funniest joke in the world... and, as a consequence, he will die... laughing.
Ernest stops writing, pauses to look at what he has written... a smile slowly spreads across his face, turning very, very slowly to uncontrolled hysterical laughter... he staggers to his feet and reels across room helpless with mounting mirth and eventually collapses and dies on the floor.
Voice Over: It was obvious that this joke was lethal... no one could read it and live...
We keep a VCR plugged in and blinking 12:00 just so my children's friends will talk to me when they come over, I regale them for hours with tales of specific machine built just for rewinding "tape".
(ok so I don't regale them, and it's like 2 minutes before they wiggle their arms free of my grasp as I chase them down the hall)
People who say they cost significantly more than regular lightbulbs, we regularly buy 3 packs of these compact flourescent lightbulbs for 1 dollar (or 1 dollar each for a total of 3 dollars) we just look for them on sale (like at walmart).
over the course of a few months we swapped out all of the lights in my house for these lower powered bulbs and our bill has decreased by 40 dollars... quite the savings... and the difference in lumens is hardly noticable.
The only peculiar thing about these bulbs is if you plug them into a varible lighting source (like a dimmer) they will flicker horribly unless on the highest setting, I believe this is due to the frequency nature of flourescent light bulbs.. much like how CRT monitors have refresh rates, these bulbs do also.
and we will say no, then they will rebel and destroy most of humanity using the rest of us as batteries to power themselves after we "scorch the skies"...
Sheesh doens't anyone pay attention to the prophectic writings of the animatrix series?
I say nuke the planet from Orbit, it's the only way to be sure, the best defense is a good offense.
Is that sometimes you can get things for a good deal (even after shipping) and sometimes you can get something for a reasonable price when you can't find it anywhere else.
This service offers nothing that you can't get anywhere else, and usually at higher prices.
Seems like a no brainer why this is failing, (plus the buy it now option fills this niche somewhat).
Please explain how I can avoid paying any attention to the ads on my TV, Newspaper, Radio, Bus lines, Cars on the road, Flyers stuck to my windshield, calls on my phone, letters in my mail, notes written in the sky, banners on websites, and now BILLBOARDS in my games?
"The economical-benefits and progress-creation of our free-market systems depend on the movement of money and like a pump advertising performs that function."
The only Function advertising performs is to program people to want things they don't need and create opinions about things they would otherwise not give a shit about. Good products sell themselves, people actively promote products they love and believe in, we don't NEED marketing or people like you who expouse the "virtues" of the same.
"Advertising just short of spam is generally a "good" thing. In our market system you need some method of becoming aware of similar products as a basis for making informed buying decisions."
Advertising is the WORST way to learn about products. Word of mouth is the BEST WAY to learn about products. Good products sell themselves, bad products need "marketing" to drive "consumer awareness".
Japan has 100mbps synchronous connections but yet I have to suffer through Comcast commercials telling me that 6mbps is "blazingly fast" (and we cap uloads at 768k btw)...
This is, honestly, bullshit.. the telecom and cable companies don't want to offer real services that compete globally.. they want to nickel and dime us for every megabit.. i can't wait for ANY type of competition.
"If I were to order a hot coffee and burn my tongue because I was too dumb to drink it like a hot drink shoul be drank, that would be my own stupid fault."
So everyone should be put in peril because you want to risk your own welfare.. sounds reasonable.
You win, I obviously don't prefer windows for the points i listed, you have proved beyond a doubt that i do not like windows and was completely wrong about what I find easier to use, Windows or Linux.
and 140F IS hot Coffee, i'd love to see you drink a cup of 180F water, please enlighten us, microwave some water and tempertaure probe it, when the probe says 180F go ahead and take a big sip and post it on Youtube for us to laugh at.. thx.
"Most coffee tastes better when brewed with hot watter, the hotter, the better the brew."
You must be quite the established barrista.
Unfortunately, in quite the opposite case it all depends on steeping time and extraction from the grounds, I have made coffee from a hot water tap using an Aeropress that beats any expresso machine I have ever used or tasted previously. Using water that is "too hot" can induce bitterness from the grounds.
Somebody should pour some 140 degree F coffee in your lap and then some 180 degree F and you can let use know which you prefer.
"During the case, Liebeck's attorney's discovered that McDonald's required franchises to serve coffee at 180-190 degrees Fahrenheit (82-88 degrees Celsius). At that temperature, the coffee would cause a third-degree burn in two to seven seconds"
140F is nowhere near tepid, in fact it is quite hot, but at least you would have up to 20 seconds to avoid a third degree burn.
"welcome to my foes list."
Oh Noes teh Foes!!!
Derivate works, or parodies? If we had full functioning DRM that no one objected to, wouldn't it hurt both of these currently non-copyrighted covered uses?
Doesn't DRM take away the user's copyrights?
"
Sounds plausible; but wait, isn't that exactly what Jesus then supposedly did by giving his life for us?"
Nope. You are confusing God's wisdom with God's plan for forgiveness of sins (Salvation).
BTW God offers Salvation freely but he makes you search for his wisdom like buried treasure or a pearl in oysters.
