How about triangulation the wireless connection offering Free Wifi with signal strength as a guide.. it would seem possible to narrow down the AP to a Radius of Meters (50 or so?) and the people with the laptops in that area could be talked to...?
I was thinking Google Sex, streaming videos and search related items for the words yelled out during coitus mounted as a flat panel on the ceiling, with optional forehead/backside mirrors for wife/hubby/SO.
"The one quote that sticks out in my mind is, "you wouldn't take a dump in the library, so don't read in the toilet"."
I thought it went: "I wouldn't swim in your toilet so don't piss in my pool" ?
I personally like reading in the crapper, it takes my mind off of the business at hand (so to speak) and helps to relax.. but doing work on the crapper would have the opposite effect I would think. Eating on the crapper.. now that's just weird.
"No, they just killed the Internet portion. You can still use the legacy versions by running in insecure mode and connecting directly to the server's IP address."
Really? Because AFAIK you need to authenticate to w WON server before you can connect to any internet server, direct IP or not...
Do you have the original halflife (non steam) and the original 1.5/1.6 mod to try this out? I do if you are interested.
"If you're trying to compare prices, you're doing something wrong.
Try looking for your best weapon, then save the appropriate loadouts to your quick buy options."
I already know "MY" best weapons, i know what weapons I want to use... I don't want to use a P90, don't force me to by making every other gun unaffordable.. there is a reason people primarily use specific guns...
And Armor+helmet for 4500?.. is your advice really just to use no helmet? That is ludicrous.
Look, seriously, the game was FINE the way it was in 1.5/1.6. i can see graphics improvements, I can see flashbang/smoke improvements (which was actually useful) but to keep tweaking MAJOR aspects of the game ruins the gameplay that everyone fell in love with in the first place.
It's not even that they are making the changes, it's that these are MAJOR changes, that they KEEP CHANGING... the CS:S game i played a year ago is completely different from what we are playing today, and almost nothing like original CS.
But i'm gonna add another PC game, a mod actually, Counter-strike. There I said it. Valve bought the rights to the mod, and then promptly split the community and actual game itself into 3 different (although similar) games, then they killed off the old server infrastructure making playing the original mod (non-valve IP) impossible.
What you have currently is 3 different types of "games" based on the same mod, CS, CS:Z, and CS:S, CS and CS:S cannot be played together, and I think CS:Z is only backwards compatible. And they are different, any fan of a particular "game" will tell you how much the other "doesn't feel right"/sucks, etc...
Not to mention dropping thrid party support for anticheat tools, and constant (almost weekly) "tweaks" to "improve gameplay" that make playing a standard game a near impossiblity..
I tried to play CS:S the other night on one of the varible pricing servers (were prices fluctuate due to demand) and it was quite frustrating.. how do I make my choices of what gun to buy when i have no idea how much it costs in relation to other guns without spending every week going over the pricing? I couldn't even buy armor and helmet without forking over 4500 bucks?!?! (sorry bit of a rant there).
My main gripe is that I used to be able to just jump in a game and play for a few hours, knowing the maps, knowing what my money would buy, knowing what equipment was available.. with source this is pretty much not possible.. it seems like Valve wants to kill it off completely.
So they have guitar hero and now karaoke hero, I was thinking of like "making the band" type game, where you could play bass and guitar, have someone sing, donkey konga drums, maybe a keyboard option?
Also I always thought a great idea that I would like to see for the GH series would be to have "best of" play CDs, so you have the main game CD that loads then you can swap out different CDs for say songs of the 70's, or greatest grunge hits, slayer, etc...
What would really make this work is with a downloadable song format ala Xbox live where you could download additional tracks set to the GH game for a quarter to 1 dollar a pop.. I love playing GH but what would make it better is having the ability to pick and choose what songs I want to rock out to... as well as having the ability to play guitar and bass for the songs i want (have different versions of songs with bass or rythum tracks). Not to mention a great way to become a cash cow for very little initial cash outlay to develop the tracks...
"but it was very strange to me that she could be so affected by junk mail."
It's probably because she comes from a different era and thinks of email like regular mail, she sees a letter and previously she would write back to learn more about the sender or throw it back in the mail with a "return to sender" note on the envelope, it was just common courtesy back then (well still is for snail mail).
My version would be set in a zombie universe ala dead rising or such, but with a mmorpg feel. Single players would start out as normal players aaginst AI controlled zombies, but if they died they could choose to become one of the undead, with infinite respawns (random area respawns).
The goal would be try to live long enough to escape to a shelter or remote island.
Ever game would be an instance which would reset if goals are accomplished (everyone zombified, or people escape, etc..) that's the basics but the more I think about it the more possibilities for fun gameplay have seemed apparent..
Have been playing PC games with me on our lan for about 5 years now, they are currently aged 15/11/10.
I'd say on average their percentage between playing games and watching TV is about 80/20% respectively.. of course they also ride their bikes, play outside, visit friends, etc.. but they seem to enjoy using the PC/gaming more than the sedentary activity of watching TV.
"You have problems with Apple's commercials but yet use Microsoft products when Steve Ballmer acts like a fucking retard."
Hmm, on one hand we have a comparison between OSes, on the other we have a comparison of an OS to an employee of someone who contributes to the release of an OS.. seems perfectly valid to me.
"Great idea! So, 50000000 million homes at $100000 per. The government can surely come up with the five TRILLION dollars to pay for all that, right?"
If we stopped the "War on drugs" www.leap.cc and cut back our military spending by just a 1/3, that would pay for all of the conversions within a 5-10 year timeframe.
So yes it is doable without having to increase taxes, and the increased tax revenue from legalized drugs would help.
BTW, there was a sequel to MDK, MDK2.. my son has been playing it recently... I believe that this is the one you are referring to as the first one didn't have the dog?
"Even when making custom maps in WC3, raising the food or hero limit wasn't possible."
Yes it is, you can do either... I have played many a custom multiplayer map that does just this... for example there is a pokemon map where you find, defeat, and then use up to 8 "hero" creatures, for the food limit try "The summoner" where you have a hero whose abilities are summoning, you can summon over and over to the point where there are 500+ units battling.
Also there are maps where it costs no food no gold, just buildtime for buildings and units.. of course those slow down pretty bad pretty fast;)
"Dungeon Keeper II forgot that adding Mega-3D graphics and a storyline that nobody would care about doesn't make the game better."
I disagree, I played both version extensively and the second was definitely a better version, there were a few things I loved from the first version that I missed, but the reworking of the gold vs gold+magic system, new characters, elite creatures, multiplayer with bots, dazed creatures when dropping and of course better graphics (full 3d, not sprites), new traps, new rooms, my pet dungeon?!?! i don't even play the first version anymore.
I agree they need to revive this game, but i don't see why you couldn't just say that without trying to slam the sequel.
You sound like one of those clueless users, who no matter how much you try to teach, now matter how simple you try to explain, no matter how much time you devote, they "just don't get it".
"Maybe the problem is that users are never told about that, or that they were asleep during that day school. "
I think it is a combination of apathy on the part of users and lack of technical expertise. At my company when a new employee starts we send them a welcome email (their email is pre-configured for the user) that describes what the IT group supports, contact info, detailed list of "getting started using our infrastructure tips", and 4 or 5 attachments that detail common setup and usage guidelines for IT services (remote desktop, web mail access, vpn, etc..).
But it never fails, 90% of new employees regularly ask us a question covered in the welcome email or attached documentation, 50% of those ask something that would seem to be blantantly obvious, like our contact info at the bottom of the page, or how to use local admin accounts located at the very top... basically they don't want to learn/read/understand.
What it seems like is that they want someone to do it for them.
And then of course we also have the people who after repeatedly telling them the same instructions on how to do something, feel the need to copy my VP, direct manager, help ticket system and me directly because I haven't responded immediately to their latest request for the same exact information.
P- "The client COULD pick up the rejection response and present the user with a clear indication that they typed the receiving address incorrectly and some choices of how to proceed (including one that resends the same message to a different recipient)."
You - "The only widely used mail server that doesn't give this information to the user is.... Exchange. Worst pile of crap ever."
"Answering with "Not our department, complain to Nvidia" would not make people angry."
they would have to have the worst PR department in the world to make that their official statement. They could easily offer something "PR" friendly that is akin to blowing people off but not sound like it.. to erase comments and completely ignore a problem (historically) is the absolute worst thing a company can do.. a lot worse that even your PR idea come to think of it.. hmmm
I know, and what's sad is Apple could have become the first, they still could (with the massive market share they have) but they don't... I have 5 ipod devices (ipod, shuffle, nano, etc) for my 5 household members, none of us use the ITunes store because of the DRM involved. If I am paying for a song I should be able to play it on any device, like my son's Zen.

How's the online gameplay with that? Lot of people? Hard to find a good game?
