  1. Bible contradicts Creationism anyway. on Slashback: New E3, Archimedes Webcast, Dell Wildfires · · Score: 0

An fact often overlooked by both pro and anti evolution parties is that the Bible itself contradicts the assertion of six-day creationist-type people that the whole universe and the earth and everything in it arose in six days. It's opening sentence states that =first= God created the heavens and the earth. Only =after= that event do these six days occur, therefore there is the opportunity for billions of years to pass in the intervening time. These six (not necessarily literal 24 hour) days that follow *after* this long time period have nothing to do with the creation of the earth as such, but rather were the period where the raw earth was subsequently prepared in stages for habitation by various forms of life. The abovementioned biblical long time period as far as I can tell supports current science and, paradoxically, shoots creationists down in flames.

Quotes fron the article: 1/"In fact, "theory" is a misnomer, since unlike general relativity theory or quantum theory, string theory is not a concise set of solvable equations describing the behavior of the physical world. Not trolling or trying to be flame bait here, but dang! that sounds *so* similar to evolution IMHO.

  4. ENIAC and vacuum tubes on Review of Seagate's 750Gb Hard Drive · · Score: 1

ENIAC with it's 5000 odd vacuum tubes was a potential reliability nightmare. People argued that it would break down on the average every 30 minutes. It did rather better than that through running the tube filaments at a quite reduced voltage. The comparison with multiple HDD's should be obvious though. The more you have, the more likely you are to have a system (not individual drive) failure.

The Bible doesn't say anything about hacking or intellectual property per se. What it does state is principles that cover these things, e.g. "You must love your neighbour as yourself". If you have that suitable regard for another you don't go hacking their stuff. Mind you, the Bible doesn't force anyone to do anything, but it does give them the scope to demonstrate what is in their hearts, which God notes and will use when his time comes to finally rid the earth of 1/ those who don't care about him, 2/ of politics, 3/ big business, and above all, 4/ religion.

"The Christian religion is mighty big on ignoring that no killing bit."
That's one of the defining lines between an organization that simply calls itself "Christian" and one that really is. So-called christianity historically has had no qualms about supporting governments and their wars, especially if it also furthered their own aims. The fact that religion is so involved with politics and wars hardly needs to be said. What's more, two world wars were fought mostly among "christian" nations. In Nazi Germany there was only *one* religion that stood up to Hitler and refused to join his armies (or those of the other country for that matter) or give any other kind of support. Because of this about 10,000 of them were rounded up and put into various concentration camps. Some 2,500 of that group were executed there. All camp inmates wore a specific coloured triangle for identification - they wore the purple ones.
