I'll probably be modded to oblivion but to me the best solution to a lot of humanity current and future problems is reducing the number of people on Earth. I don't say how, I don't know how, but I'm pretty sure it's the best one.
And there's this myth that everything (once released) on the web stays there forever. Looks like most people don't remember websites from the 90s and 00s most of which disappeared without a trace.
Also, quite a lot of people love to own their data. Like physically own it and don't share it with random parties you really don't know anything about. Also, the speed and availability of access is an issue. God forbid your Internet dies and suddenly you cannot open anything on your no longer connected device.
Again the talks of desktop dying are mostly a click bate.
Haven't RTFA but it seems natural to me considering the fact that politicians can be bribed or lobbied, or they can be biased, or they cannot really think about issues as a whole.
Microsoft can support Windows 7 for as long as they want.
Microsoft can relatively easily backport pretty much every underlying technology from Windows 10 to Windows 7.
Microsoft doesn't do that because Windows 10 gives them so much power over your PC and your data. Also, the way updates are implemented in Windows 10, Microsoft can forcefully keep every Windows 10 user on the latest release of the OS which is ultimately good for them.
Having said that there's a major problem with this update mechanism: OEMs will eventually stop releasing up to date drivers for new Windows 10 releases and you'll end up with a Windows 10 PC/laptop where some piece of your equipment no longer works.
Also, have a look at the state of corruption in the country as seen by its own citizens. And that was in 2009. As of 2019 the situation is a even worse.
someone who knows very little about Russia besides a few western-liberal headlines
Or maybe I live in this country and know a little bit more than you could imagine by reading God knows what. Have you ever been to Russia, mr. guacamole? I really doubt that. Maybe you can understand the Russian language? Also unlikely. Maybe you've got a first person account of the state of corruption, lawlessness (to be precise we have law but it mostly serve the very rich and the members of the distinct dacha housing cooperative), decay in the country? I presume no. So, what do you really know about Russia? I'm quite sure nothing really aside from what you chose to believe in.
Have you ever watched the disclosures in regard to the inner Putin circle?
A crackdown on the open Internet in Russia continues unabated. Soon, RosKomNadzor will introduce state issued mandatory SSL certificates for opening websites and forbid all the instant messengers which sport unbreakable encryption. Yes, they failed banning Telegram but it was only because there's no law to deal with fast moving targets - Durov revamped the entire servers network and logging in process to allow the Russians to communicate past the prohibition introduced last year.
It's the fourth such news piece in the last several months. Also most western media neglected the protests in regard to the Internet in Russia which happened just two days ago. It's still astonishing how few people participated. Looks like Putin has truly become the Tsar of The Grand Duchy of Moscow and the people are content with eachatrocityhedoes. A dictator, a tyrant, Godfather of the Russian mafia state.
Many Android #What's your favorite topic again?# Apps Request 'Dangerous' Permissions They Don't Need
And it's not entirely Google's fault. When you download applications for Windows you must also exercise caution and, unlike Android apps, most Windows applications require full access to your PC (some Windows applications even install low level drivers), so with Android you can at least have some control.
What really annnoys me about Android is that often there's a nice nifty app which requires next to zero permissions and no access to the Internet, and then its developer decides he wants to monetize his app (which has suddenly become relatively popular), and this app suddenly starts showing full screen ads and send your private data God knows where.
Nowadays there are two main drivers of a smartphone upgrade: dead irreplaceable battery (thanks to the fact that modern smartphones are not user serviceable) or/and physical damage. New tech? Meh.
a new high(1) for technological innovation with the introduction of foldable(2) devices and 5G(3) smartphones
1 Nothing high from here.
2 super expensive, super easily breakable devices which are meant to replace tablets which are barely used nowadays?
3 Really? Like we don't already have 4G which is more than enough for most of people and still inaccessible for the rest (either no infrastructure or extremely expensive)?
Sorry, as for smartphones we reached "good enough" several years ago and all the fuzz about new tech is mostly a fizzling.
Except there are literally hundreds of additional data points which allow websites to uniquelyidentify you. The best you could do without too much hassle is to run the English version of Google Chrome under the latest release of Windows 10 without any extensions or additional fonts installed. But even that is not enough since you still expose your time zone, WebGL extensions and then there are evercookies, mouse tracking, canvas fingerprinting, etc. etc. etc.
It surely looks like the WWW was built with tracking in mind. Not intentionally of course.
As with every other bias this study won't convince most of the anti-vaxers because they've already formed a strong belief and they will only accept the "information" which furthers their irrational point of view which is lacking any reasoning and is not based on facts.
You shouldn't trust any except the one you've set up on your own and then you still need to use TOR over VPN 'cause otherwise the company which is renting you a server will know all the IP addresses you ever connect to. And then the same company still has full access to your server, so consider yourself burnt.
In short, use TOR over VPN if you want to remain incognito, or/and chain several VPN providers and hope they are not under the same jurisdiction.
Not meaning to downplay the significance of this breakthrough but early last year synthetic biologist Floyd E. Romesberg already announced the creation of two additional synthetic letters.

Hilarious this talk is not available on.
Censorship and integrity in regard to TED owners who chose to ban the talk which is mentioned in this /. submission.

Several years of posts? This looks like a deliberate attempt to destroy evidence/hide something.
It also severely shortens your battery lifespan. In fact the higher the charging voltage, the shorter the lifespan.
You're right. Lost one zero (don't know how) and I cannot edit the original post.
What a shame :(
For those who have long abandoned the imperial units that's around 4 million kilometers per hour, or 3.7% of the speed of light.

I'll just leave you with this.

Let's be completely honest:

Life on Earth (DNA code) is still four-bit. Synthetic organisms can't yet produce synthetic base pairs.

"Blow your wallet away."
There, fixed it for you
