I heard of this like 2 years ago (or more) for cell phones. They had a charger that you could crank by hand, a mini solar charger you could put on your dashboard or roof of your car, and a fan that sat on the outside of your car. Admittedly I don't remember the company, but this is really old news.
Information is undergoing the same transformation that government did with the creation of the first modern democracy (republic, whatever). The people decided they could rule themselves just as well, if not better, than those who hold power by divine right.
Now those who distrubute knowledge and information are using whatever power they have left to try and prevent the people from applying the same concepts to their industries.
I paid $5.00 to see 1,000 dupes before everyone else. It seems the only added value subscribers have now-a-days is to be the first ones to be disappointed by another dupe.
This does add functionality to Firefox. Now all my bookmarks that I have stored with Yahoo! can follow me anywhere I sign in with the yahoo bar. I dual boot with win xp and debian. I use both IE and Firefox in XP and only Firefox in Debian so this will make it easier to keep my bookmarks up to date across the browsers.
Onsite I charge a flat $40 for minor problems. Big problems are negotiated at a higher rate.
If they let me, I install no-ip (with a password of course) and freevnc (also with a password) I charge $20 to do it offsite. But I will only do this if they have a high speed internet connection.
Remote assistance rocks because you don't have to sit in some one's smelly house or have some ugly old lady stare at you.
While what you say is true, this is great because it is a clean legal way to do it. If Linux is going to ever REALLY become successful on the desktop more things like this need to happen.
In the long run open formats would definately be the goal, but in the mean time this is a good move to encourage acceptance.
Freevo, it's like firefox for tivo. :)
knoppix.net is really slow and the forum is /.'ed, people must be storming that site with this news out.
/.'ed but not posted on slashdot? I mean, no direct link, everyone just goes there themselves.
Is this this the first time a site has been
I christen it, the slashdot halo effect.

Wintel not co-operating?
For SHOCK!
"Piece of Ass" is too Clinton-esque and was subsequently rejected by big oil, I mean big energy, I mean big religion, I mean the Bush administration.
Clinton-esque
Big Oil
Big Energy
Big Religion
Bush Administration
One of these things is not like the others.
The quote at the bottom of Slashdot says "Our way is peace."
Sounds like all the explaination you will get from this administration.
This is just another attempt to try to dillute the term "open-source" by injecting their new buzzword "shared-source".
The same arguments are used against blogs.

RIAA/MPAA/ALA - RIP
I just installed the latest update on my grandparents' windows box and it won't even boot now. How much do you think I could get for that?

LP rot?
"Or did I just blow your fucking mind?"
Microsoft would/could never remove or admit to being able to remove IE from the OS. It is as they say "Integral".
It's not like I care anyway because I am too busy trying to switch everyone I know over to Debian.
Or maybe a mini-fm broadcaster?
That way it could truly become your own personal radio station (and you could share with others at the gym etc.

Seems like just installing windows would be on the list.

They think that by spraying gasoline on open source that it will kill it like grass.
Opening up the formats will only make open source solutions more interoperable with the proprietary microsoft formats.
So the F/OSS fire burns stronger.
Sure but can it run linux?
Wait, umm....
Oh!
Imagine a Beowulf Cluster of these things!
Now my clients' computers can be compromised even faster because this language/protocol is "light weight".
Obligatory Mr. Horse quote from Ren & Stimpy,
Real: Go ahead and use it we don't care.
Debian: No sir...I don't like it.

Is this even news anymore?
