The glasses work great. Any direct3D will show in full 3D. The only reasons I don't wear them all the time (or ever really) are bad 3d driver support from nvidia in the past, and more importantly, every game I've ever played in 3D has used some weird visual shortcuts for displaying explosions or gunshots or something that breaks the whole immersion. For example, in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, it's all full 3D except the streetlights and headlights. Those appear to be painted on a 2D window in front of you because they don't really appear in the 3D space. Anyway, it's weird enough to make me not want to play it that way. So if this is going to ever work in the mainstream, game developers have to meet halfway and stop using graphical shortcuts like that.
You were doing good until the end where you make fun of Barack Obama, then I realized that everything you said before was pretty much irrelevant. Was that the effect you were going for?
If... you fire off an angry forum post in response to someone posting about so-called 'rednecks', and use the word 'your' in place of 'you're', only to then be corrected by some other smartass forum poster who caught your newbie mistake... you just might be a redneck forum poster.
I have some dark matter under my bed. I don't really know what it is without shining a light under there. I only know it's there because when I try to cram in more stuff, it bumps into the dark matter. Silly isn't it? What's more silly is that this is exactly how astronomers classify dark matter. Something they think is there but aren't sure because they can't see it.
Dark matter is not magic. It could be an asteroid belt of non-glowing rocks. That would totally count according to the definition, and is actually one of the more likely explanations of what 'dark matter' really is. It's not all that mysterious. And anyway, it's all based on some mathematical calculation of how much mass they think is floating around in space. If the math is wrong, the whole thing could be a complete fantasy. So no big deal, really.
I don't think it has anything to do with scarcity. It's about him choosing to charge people $5 to buy his game. Nobody said it was in limited supply. How much do you charge to let someone kick you in the nuts? Do you base that price on scarcity?
"A simple 'emerge --sync --quiet && emerge -u =mozilla-firefox-3.0.4' (assuming you have it unmasked) will solve that issue."
Simple? This is why linux will never catch on with most people. Simple is to download and install and it works automatically. The above is about as far from simple as an old-school modem initialization string from the 90's.
So at 40k per year income, Joetheplumber could actually make six times as much as he makes now and still get a tax cut from Obama. SIX TIMES. Is six times a plumber's income rich? Well, almost according to Obama, and I would agree. Seven times a plumbers income -IS- rich.
Did Joe the Plumber make over 250k last year? Will Obama be giving him a tax break, totally invalidating McCain's point about Obama raising JoeThePlumber's taxes?
Really? People are starving somewhere and you are taking the time to post ridiculous comments on the internet when you could be cooking them some rice to eat? Wow. You don't really care about those starving people at all do you?
And when the next chance makes it so that doesn't work, and you can't find another easy workaround, will you start complaining then, or just accept the forced change in a sheepish way?
The stuff that I find really bizarre is people who whine about screen "real estate". I mean, the top third of the screen is dedicated to a one-line text box.
Yes exactly, so further reduction of the already limited usable screen space is NOT desirable. Or to go with your way of thinking, you are already paying taxes on your income, why should you care if they take 20% more?
As for iGoogle, I don't know what the fuss is all about. Really.
So the tabs have moved to the left. Big fucking deal.
Yes, it is a big deal, forcing a change from a 3 column layout to four, with the new column being useless and taking up space that was previously used for other things. It's clearly a downgrade if you like your homepage to work as an at-a-glance page of quick links and info. So now you know.
I think you might be missing the point, that being the point of this article. You are forcing changes on people who were happy doing things as they were. Maybe if you would stop doing that, they'd stop complaining so much.
The patch caused many people's games to not work at all, and many more to have frequent crashes, sound stuttering and delays, invisible graphics and creatures, and more. That was more than a month ago and they've yet to fix any of it. But there's an expansion pack coming yay! I guess that's all that matters to them.
If photonst have weight, they can be effected by gravity, and a black hole can form around any object with sufficient mass to trap light. That's all there is to it. There is no magical singularity where the laws of physics break down. There doesn't need to be.
The patch was released Thursday. It's a 91mb file and takes about 90 minutes to install, three times longer than the full game. Most people think their PC is frozen during the patch because most of that time all you see is a progress bar at 0%. Once installed, it causes all sorts of graphical and sound glitches, including a majority of invisible opponents, and also introduces random crashes into the game. The patch also fails to address one of the biggest crash issues that have many people stuck on their home world, unable to leave orbit without the game crashing.
So in other words, the patch was an Epic Fail.
My favorite quote from a very good HL2 player I know:
"Weed is nature's aimbot."
They say it gives you a sort of tunnel vision that lets you hyper focus on a game. I'm really surprised that WIkipedia doesn't mention this. Ask any of your stoner buddies about playing videogames while high and the effect it has on scores. This has been common knowledge since people got baked before playing arcade games in the 80's.
According to the blurb, current LED bulbs sell for $100 and they expect this new breakthrough to lower the cost to $5. I can see that being possible for the manufacturing cost, but the cost to the consumer will always be set to one click below 'haha yeah right'. It's the way of business. Look at how many times in the past couple years we've been told that the cost to manufacture solar panels will be cut in half. You'd think with all that progress we'd be able to roof a house with them for about $10, when actually the cost remains one click below 'are you insane?' as always.
We already have the precedent of big name hollywood movie stars voicing major roles in video games. Just to name a few of the most relevant, there's Ray Liotta who did the main character's voice in GTA:Vice City, Samuel L Jackson who played the main villain Officer Tenpenny in GTA:San Andreas, and James Woods who did the voice of the CIA guy in GTA:SA. I said movie stars because despite what you may think of any of them, these three guys have all starred in their own major hollywood movies.
So what kind of deal did they get? Paid for the day like this Niko voice guy with no residuals? WHy would they accept that? If they had done the same exact type of work for a Pixar movie they'd get the full residual deal. From what the article said, Michael Hollick worked even harder than a typical voice actor because he did all physical acting of his character through motion capture.
The businesses are so similar, and the voice acting jobs so nearly identical, I don't see why one should get residuals and the other day-labor pay. Even if it is a ton of money, the deal should be the same in all fairness. I think the Screen Actors Guild should make this point very clearly to the video game producers, that if they want to play with Hollywood actors or any professional actors, they will have to pay the fair share.
All this talk about compensating the programmers and artists is besides the point. A different point to argue that would also include all the set designers and makeup artists etc, but not what this article is about.
What about The Sims? This also applies to (fill in your favorite PC game or PC software). Until Linux in general or Wine can run mainstream programs as good as windows, upgrading to Linux is a dead issue. Seriously, you guys need to understand this. It's not the interface, it's the sheer lack of compatibility with mainstream software.
You lost me at POTUS and OJT. If you want to say something just say it, please. Don't assume everyone knows your wacky abbreviations. No, I won't google it.
Where do we draw the line? I would draw the first line at 'worthless disease carrying bloodsuckers', targeting all forms of mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks that prey on us humans and our fellow mammals. That would be a great start. Not that we'd need to go any further, but a great start nonetheless. As for the critters who presently dine on mosquitoes, I say let them eat moths.
No. GTA San Andreas has a well scripted story and is still wide open to explore. These games are still on rails because the developers are so comfortable with the format.
I've been trying to enjoy this game on the PC but it's tough. It's a bad console port. The first thing that hits you is the highly overdone motion blur of the unreal 3 engine. There is no option to disable it or turn it down. When you move your crosshair the whole screen blurs out, worse than I've seen in any game. The last time I played I was given a vehicle to drive and was shocked and dismayed to find that the only way to drive it was mouse control. I don't mind the political messages hidden within (haven't seen any yet) but enjoy games with good story. The only things I don't like (and can't force myself to like) are just the result of sloppy dumbed-down configuration options. A patch that lets you configure things more would fix all the problems I have with the game.
The portal hazard course is short and always the same. The places you are allowed to use the portal gun are carefully limited. Portal, like all of Half-Life 1 & 2 is completely on rails.
