"I don't have time for that" is a nice way of saying "I choose not to spend my free time doing that because I find it pointless and boring". I often tell my friends that the reason I don't play MMOs is that I don't have time. Regardless of how much free time I have I will never find it acceptable to spend 6 hours a day playing a game that takes no meaningful level of skill.
I bought a Stephen Sondheim album from Amazon for my sister about 7 years ago. They still e-mail me everytime they get a new album or new sheet music or pretty much anything else related to musicals or showtunes. I don't even like musicals. I had the item sent giftwrapped, seems at a minimum they could filter out giftwrapped items from the algorithm they use to spam the crap out of me.
I disagree. People will put up with a lot of crap to learn something "cool" like and iPad or Facebook. I can barely navigate Facebook and I've been using a computer since I could read. The apps that they think are "too hard to learn" are the apps where that is the accepted reality. If everyone said Microsoft Word/PowerPoint/Office/SharePoint/Windows was simple all the people who are confused by it would make an effort to learn it out of shame like they do with the whizbang iWhatevers.
I do agree, I'm forced to use IE6 at work. Just installed chrome frame and it works great. I had to search the net for how to enable it by default which was a pain so here's the info:
Add this registry info to enable the gcf protocol (put gcf: in front of your URL) [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\ChromeFrame]
"EnableGCFProtocol"=dword:00000001
Add this registry info to optin every site on the net so that chrome frame is always used (may break old intranet garbage apps) [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\ChromeFrame\OptInUrls]
"*"=""
Or just save the whole deal into a.reg file and run it:
They wear wide shoes to create a wider base to make it easy to balance and some use a walker. The shoes actually make the problem of hitting the correct pedal worse.
I am disappointed that so many people on slashdot are posting this comment. You either jumped to this conclusion with no evidence or have horrible observation/problem solving skills. It is in the resolution options for every video. You can also add "&textp=fool" to the url.
The only way to get around this is to donate things that have high value in general, but low value to you. For instance, I may have a car that I can donate that allows me a $3000 deduction even though I can't get anyone to agree to pay more than $1000 for it. If I am taxed 35% on my income in the highest tax bracket I hit, then I have just saved myself $50 (3000*.35 - 1000 = $50). Woo friggin hoo.
Same thing happened to me. The guy across the hall from me got my code from my roommate because he "just needed a little help understanding the assignment". When I was "caught cheating" I told the professor that I had no idea how he got my code and that I had no reason/opportunity to cheat (I turned my assignment in the day it was assigned). Unfortunately, they didn't believe me, and told me that unless I could get the "other cheater" to admit that he stole my code without my knowledge I would be failed out of the course.
I was furious of course. I went back to my dorm and found the cheater. First appealing to logic (we're both failing anyway you might as well just tell the truth) and then threatening to destroy him (I started listing off all kinds of horrible things I would do). Eventually I got him to admit it, and even though the professor still didn't believe me they were forced to allow me to continue since I would have won had I appealed their decision.
After that I never left my computer unprotected, never used network drives, and never helped anyone with code (I'd answer questions but I would not view or contribute code, EVER). This was at RPI in Troy, New York. If you are a cheater who is thinking about attending there, you might want to consider another school.
My parents made me, not God, credit where credit is due. Also, it is natural to be somewhat ashamed of your inadequacies, this often provides the drive to improve yourself.
To your overall point, imagine you have a genetic marker which identifies you as having a 2 inch penis. Now imagine that everyone knows you have this marker. Now imagine being in high school where not everyone is as enlightened as you. Historically, people who could ignore the level of abuse that would ensue have been few and far between. So unless your name starts with Jesus or ends with Gandhi you might want to reconsider your position.
Privacy is not primitive, and is a necessity when living in society. It is trivial to come up with 100s of reasons why, so I assume you either had a momentarily lapse in judgment or that you are not a reasonable individual. Just imagine walking around wearing a sandwich board that contains the most unfortunate facts about your life. Not everyone needs to know that you had a homosexual sex dream about your cousin Ralph.
Plus, adding insult to injury, the article raves about this $12,000 camera working with two inexpensive SDHC memory cards rather than more expensive P2 memory cards. Doesn't the $12,000 price tag rather defeat any savings in memory cards?
I would bet that either the article writer or the target audience are the kind of people that will drive 10 miles across town to save $.02/gal on gas. Cost benefit analysis is much too complicated for most people.
You're damn right, I have to get home to watch television for 5 or so hours. I have precious little free time and I will not waste it increasing the safety of myself and those around me.
Somewhat off-topic, but as long as we're talking about TV sound, I'm way behind on sending a letter to the people who make "Burn Notice" to thank them for the high quality of the show's audio. The actors don't mumble or get drowned out by sound effects or added music, which is more than I can say for a lot of other shows these days.
That is because half of the dialogue is added as voiceovers. I am not talking about just the narration either, they will often rerecord conversational dialogue and cut to a shot of the nonspeaking actors while it plays. I actually really like the show but the dubs can be rather jarring at times, they often are at a different volume and are clearly recorded with different microphones. It sounds unnatural.
RTFA, there is no hacking being done. It's all DoS attacks, social engineering, and phishing scams. These methods are all independent of the hardware and in most cases the services being offered.
Also, while the xbox may not have the largest marketshare I would argue that it is very likely to have the largest and most active online community. The article is about "hacking" account information, not the hardware or software itself.
It is awesome just how mad and clueless someone can be at the same time. I have an Xbox360 and it actually does the exact thing you are saying it cannot do.
This post is correct. If you RTFAs you'd know that his music is sold without his permission and without receiving any royalties in a number of place online and his lawyer basically can't do anything about it because of all the legal red tape and costs of filing suits.
How can this be considered a decent reason? I'll rephrase; is it possible to come up with a string of words that ends with "with your rock band guitar" that you do not consider to be a decent reason?

I wish they would have kept it so I could get something that tastes like Pepsi in restaurants that only sell Coke products.

The fact that this is modded funny just shows how desperate a situation we are in.

If their government information security experts are as competent as ours I think there will be plenty of security holes for all.
Jesus Christ, it's hard to always cater to you god damn religious cooks. Grow some thicker skin for fucking Jehovah's sake.
How do you know how they did it? It works on every video so they obviously are running it through some sort of output filter.

Not everything you want to hide has people inside that need to see out. North Korea could cloak their nukes and have inspectors walk right past them.

I'll be holding out for a third choice.

Billie Jean is already highly compressed pop music.
