Is to not be so stupid. People are always falling for these basic traps, like clicking "YES" to browser-based software installs, opening attachments like "Imamoron-funnystuff.exe" from their friends. It's like some people just completely lack a filter that allows you to prevent 99% of viruses just by not running or clicking things they don't need to.
I think it's largely in part to the Windows interface which plays down the "significance" of running and having running programs and software while on a network (the Internet, mostly).
I haven't had a single virus on my home machine since 1996, and I think I self-infected when I was trying to figure out how it worked.
And I NEVER use a real time virus scanner. I check my Windows computer when it behaves strangely, I see new processes, event viewer notices, etc. The fact is, even if you keep your virus-scanner (real time) up to date, all you're doing is *potentially* reducing the "reaction" time to the frequency of updates released by your particular vendor. Whereas with my method, I'm up to date on virus news, as well as the usual effects of them, and find solutions on an as-needed basis should I EVER become infected by one.
The "Fear and Loathin in Las Vegas" book that Hunter S. Thompson wrote, which inspired this subject, apparently committed suicide yesterday with a gun shot to the head. Just an FYI.
So long Hunter.
I got distracted by the robot sculpture after reading the word "Capeesh?" in the story, and stopped reading. Can someone summarize what this story is about?
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=planet
At the very least, we could be using:
"A nonluminous celestial body larger than an asteroid or comet, illuminated by light from a star, such as the sun, around which it revolves."
Then you have the matter of size.
A moon would be a natural planet satellite.
Creepy stuff. Not that the logs are all the useful -- considering just how many people and IPs will be in them. That's like getting a list of 5 million people... you can't send them all to jail and/or fine them. Or... can they?
Depending on how bright this, couldn't it be bad for animals, insects, life in general? Many animals use the night and day cycles so extensively that if they were "fooled" into thinking it was day when it was night, it could easily destroy eco-systems. You'll often read about how animals get confused during eclipses, think it has become night time. Anytime we significantly alter the Earth's "default settings", we're asking for trouble. Not that I can't see this as being useful if it could be isolated for lighting urban areas, which in turn could save power potentially. It's application in war, to light up the night sky is also incredible.
"It boils down to precident in the physical world. When you walk around in public, do you bring out your kiddie porn collection, break into shops, try to abduct little girls/boys, expose yourself to random men/women, talk about crimes you're about to or have commited in broad daylight while dozens of bystanders mill about? Then why the hell should you think that the magical interweb somehow makes that OK?"
So, then, by your logic, that means they should be allowed to put microphones and cameras everywhere, and view this as they please, without any particular reason?
When a government can control what you can hear, or read, then it follows, they can control what you can say or think.
I don't understand how you can correlate the government browsing the sites I go to for porn to saving american lives. But I'm sure in your twisted , confused, and partially delusional state it makes sense... because giving up freedoms is the only way to stop people who incite fear.:/
I don't like the idea of them monitoring web browsing, URLs, content, etc, without essentially a "warrant". I also think ISPs should not store any sort of historical browsing information. The fact there is no response as to whether or not this occurs is also disconcerting, because not only are they probably doing it, but they don't even care if we know or not.
i have had 0 issues with steam hl2 silver package. get a life, pirate. i doubt you bought it... if you did, you'd realize only an idiot couldn't get it to work... 100% uptime here
"And two, I will be getting them both cracks when HL3 (or whatever else) comes out next."
great work on being a dick and helping to do your part by driving artists into bankruptcy by allowing your stupid friends to steal from them... how... noble
not down now. never has been. don't have to deal w/ cds, and it always works and gives me new patches w/ bug & exploit fixes. it's great. why do so many whine?
The movements of the fingers on the QWERTY keyboard should be looked at before deciding optimal placement of characters.
For example, I like the fact that the "e" and the "i" are on opposite sides of the keyboard.
It's easier to type words when there is a pattern, for me, of 1-3 keys on one side, all reachable without moving my hand, followed by, or alternating with the same on the left side. When I get messed up is when I have to type a lot of characters all right near eachother, or type Z, X, V, (since my left hand is weaker than my right), along with A F E W T G S.
I would think a statistical analysis of common letter pairins in relation to the most convenient finger movements would reveal something considerably more efficient than both QWERTY and Dvorak.
However, given the fact I can sustain 120 wpm at about 98% accuracy, I see no reason whatsoever to switch now. I can "burst" up in the 150wpm range.
Now, has anyone used a Microsoft "Natural" keyboard? Drops me to 60wpm or less. And that's just changing the angle of the hands. To me, though, it's like if someone chose not to make guitar strings parallel. Seriously.
I don't think robots are the future of war. Maybe for a bit, when people can be killed or disabled by certain programmed criteria. But for the most part, economies are growing in information importance. Information because money, especially the interpretation of information applied. Therein lies a technological infrastructure that can be manipulated and attacked. It is that infrastructure which will become almost as important, if not equally important or more important than land once more money and emphasis is placed on that economic driving force than is on land and resources.
A messy world we live in.
This comment seems fishy:
"Visit Roland Piquepaille's Technology Trends (http://www.primidi.com/ [primidi.com]) to see it for yourself."
Why would someone AGAINST primidi.com getting tons of money from per view/. floods suggest, constantly, on/. that others should go check it out?
Wouldn't he be encouraging people to NOT go and visit?
Are there a bunch of armless drivers I'm not aware of?
If you're too incompetent to take your hand off the wheel and adjust your music track, you probably shouldn't be driving anyway. Or allowed to own a car.
Enterprise showrunner Manny Coto today denied a rumour that crew members had already been told of the show's cancellation.
"It's another inane rumour," Coto told TrekToday. "Right now, the crew is building the sets for episodes 20-21, which I'm writing. Rick [Berman] and Brannon [Braga] are writing episode 22, which is going to be fantastic!"
Why is everyone here implying it's already a done deal? I mean, I can read between the lines, but I'd wait for something more official, myself.
You'd think Microsoft would/could advertise more. What's up with that? It's like they avoid, at all costs, pointing out that how pervasive their software is.
I wonder what the frequency of choosing the words "ITsafe" or "virus" or "warning" or "alert" would be by people signing up? 50%+?

So. Yeah.
How did I get -1 offtopic for saying the same thing without a cliche? hehe

I just choked.... I couldn't handle it. I've never had first post before... it just... really got to me.

Wouldn't using two passwords, that must be entered in order, effectively enhance security?
