I ran my centre, Capture The Frag here in a small town ~80,000 with 2 other pc and 1 xbox center and we did alright, surviving about 15 months.

What ends up killing you is the price of the games, the stupid licensing from companies like valve and the cost of supporting your hardware/upgrading and making sure the machines are maintained.

Get a license for Deep Freeze, it'll be your best friend.

We made a good deal of $ but it mostly went to advertising and paying for the property lease plus games, remember you're not buying 1, you're buying however many games for however many comps you have.

In the end, after about 15 months, i got sick of working 100 hours a week for no pay, its SO much more than just hooking some comps into a hub and going.

Thats what I do, I build a machine from parts, boot up a slax / knoppix / whatever they want linux cd / let the machine run for the night to test the hardware and send it on its way. If the customer likes the live cd they can install it, after they get the hardware from me with the OS i provide, is there any reason I have to believe they're going to automatically pirate windows?

First they have to get it, then they have to decide whether they actually want it.

Always build systems that are supported by linux, then you have no issue.

Regarding: "By the way, no American artist has EVER gotten a cent form allofmp3.com " How much do you really think the artists are getting from iTunes.. The grand majority of the money still goes to the label and the high priced execs. Then of course you have ' artists ' who actually do make money, but should'nt. Check out Missy Elliot in MTV CRIBS - driveway has a lambo murcilago, ferarri 355 spider and a big 'ol Hummer, and she's just a ' poor black woman trying to make it in this world. ' ug.

I dropped out rediculously early, got into the internet when it was a crazy new thing when gopher, archie and text irc were the cool new things. When a busy night on effnet meant there were 800 people on.
My college had a 9600 baud gateway to a university 400 km away and it only had 6 1200 baud dialup access lines.

I got a job as a sysadmin in the big city when the internet boom was starting, got moved overseas and into the caribbean for nearly 3 years as an admin, took my knowlege i learned from the job and got work for internal affairs in new zealand, spent 10 months on vacation, and then came back to my home city to run a couple business's and now i'm doing level 2 tech support for a large isp. All in all its been a good run, and for anything other than boredom in school its been blind luck beyond that.

" common denominator, conventional and predictable thinking " it may work for some, but it sure didn't work for me.

All in all its refreshing from the last 20 years of preachy, boring star trek, and yeah - Olmos plays a grizzled old war hero captain to a t. I think Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down was done for comedic levity, It shouldn't have been, but there are some unanswered questions.
