I remember reading about them discovering and patching a "remote root access exploit" at Apple. Reread that phrase in quotes. Remote root access exploit. Nobody really cared. It was because, for the numbers of boxen you could hack and "pwn", the bug wasn't all that useful because it had limited use.
When Firefox stopped working on my computer, I switched to Lynx which I had installed to make sure my webpages didn't suck (yes, lynx) rather than use IE. I eventually redownnloaded with Opera. It's important to have a backup browser.
Good rule of thumb: if your webpages don't display correctly in lynx, you've got soem serious problems. Testing in IE is also recommended.
And one other thing I can't complain about anymore: Why doesn't Windows Update support Firefox? I'm using Linux now, so it's not that important to me, but I'd like to have an answer.
I mean, I'd support the forcible removal of nations that cause trouble for the rest of us. That's the reason we went into Iraq. Prevent problems for the rest of the world.
Has anyone here spoken to anyone from Macedonia? Ever?
All these countries are considering open source not so much because they may use it, but because they know they'll get some leverage against Microsoft. As soon as Linux was offered in Thailand, Windows cut prices on XP and office to $35. The best way to drive someone's price down is make them think they have to compete against a serious threat.
Only by offending consumers and performing in-house raids to confiscate VCR's and arrest their owners, is it possible to get the public outraged. Non-slashdot-readers don't hear about bad laws until they're passed. Outrage from the general public will wait until this passes.
Yes, for me it is to be read in fan the German version;). English is completely heavy for me, but I the articles here under translated. I use the Babelfish sometimes around COMMENTS for posts, because English is for me very heavily.
Netgear has promptly reacted to the reports of a backdoor in the WLAN-Access-Point WG602 Version 1 with a Firmware-Update, however, the backdoor is still present, but with a new user name and password. They were a little creative with the name and extended the original character string "super" to "superman." With the password, Netgear has obviously taken the message of security seriously and changed the password to "21241036." However, to whom this telephone number points, Netgear did not comment. There, they knew nothing and initially only wanted to make themselves aware of the (details of the) problem.
Again, there is not a real updated firmware design yet. The question arises whether users are still determined--after the second patch--to get new software. In the lawyer's opinions, this problem could be reason enough to take back the device to the retailer and receive a refund of the purchase price. For now, the retailer can try to fix the shortcoming, however, the chances of that are not very good.
They found a number of concentric rings (from the walls) in Turkey where Troy was supposed to be. Heinrich Schliemann kind of messed up the dig with heavy machinery and falsifying finding "the jewelry of Helen", but the site still had interesting archaeological finds as well.
I just heard some sad news on talk radio - President/Actor Ronald Reagan died in his home this morning. There weren't many more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his presidency, there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Truly an American icon.

I've never had a problem with it. I've used a very bizarre email address as my primary, I don't sign up for newsletters, and use Mailinator to sign up for things. My address can't be guessed or harvested. What's your excuse for having spam?
I contribute too. Consider reading up on "Wolfgang Grams" and you'll see my handiwork.

I'm kind of offended. They assume I'm using Windows.

I was going to say! My computer is perfectly safe! I unplug it from the internet between pageloads.

Wouldn't it have done you more good to run back to the place?
With a pace counter, salad, water bottle and everything! That would be funnier if I was kidding.
Nope. No internet access in prison that I know of.
