I thought about installing some jack pc's in my house (http://www.chippc.com/thin-clients/jack-pc/index. asp). We bought a couple at my company and they work pretty well. They are wince based however.

...that maybe the video ipod isnt the real focus for apple here? Remember a cool little device they released several months ago called the mac mini? When I fist saw the thing It was just begging to be put in front of my television. Sure, right now the quality of the content is low (too low for me to enjoy on my HDTV probably). But that all could change very quickly. If the itunes video test goes well you know they have to be thinking about it. Itunes video + higher quality + mac min = apple becoming a major player in the distibution of major network content IMHO.
I found it during some googling and thought it looked interesting. I just had a couple concerns.
Has anyone here actually used it? Is there any kind of quality control standards handed down and enforced on its users? How can I be sure I will get the disc I expect in good condition?
Really? We handle alot of credit card transactions as well and management has been up my ass for months over the new requirements from Visa mentioned in the parent article.
I got a copy of it over three months ago and this is stil gonna be a photo finish to get in compliance.
Im not sure just how strict the enforcment of this is gonna be be, but you might have a serious problem.
Movie Tickets in my area $9.50
Amount of downloads: Aprox 10,000
Amount Star Wars grossed in just the first weekend: $158.5 million
The look on Georges face when he found out his new film was posted online: Priceless.
You think thats bad:
I work with a Windows admin that has constant problems with spyware on his computer..mainly because he likes to surf porn at work (dont ask...my company is retarted). This guy knows a bit about computers. He knows all about Firefox. He refuses to use it becuase its not an MS product. Hes like some kind of twisted MS fanboy or something.
No he does not really make any predictions. What Green does do extremly well is explain the ins and outs of string theory in lamens terms so that non-physisist such as myself can gain a minimal understanding of it.
Seriously the Nova docu doesnt do the book justice.
I mean if you consider that recently Jeb Bush legalized the use of firearm in public as long as one feel his live is endangered,
Frankly I dont see what everyones problem with this change of law is. Not only do you have to feel your life is in danger, but you better make damn sure that your life really was in danger (and be able to prove it somehow). Its not a license to kill or anything.
Really this depends on where you choose to live in Florida. At least for the time being (its all changing pretty quickly) there are still some communities out there where the small guy can still have a chance. Lok in north and central florida mainly.
South Florida (where im typing from right now) is the worst in this respect. Its turned into New New York down here. Everything you can think of is regulated, licensed and manadated, all the way down to what color you can paint your house and who you can have cut your lawn.
I think the main problem is just the sheer amount of unethical and seedy people we have here. I was just talking about this with a guy I work with last week: he wants to get into the spam bussiness. He showed me a spam bot he wrote. I told him "Dont you know thats illeagal and wrong?" He expressed to me how little he cared.
We have alot of people like that around here.
Second, their library is, as a Talosian might say, "shockingly limited". It seems that every time I'd look for a particular artist, either they didn't have anything at all, or only one or two albums. Sometimes I'd find an album only to discover that Rhapsody got rights to only a couple of songs, with the rest missing.
Not only that, but on several occassions when I was using Rhapsody stuff that I liked (and had on my playlist) would be removed from the service at a moments notice.
I watched that. What I thought was interesting is that you almost heard a hint of regret in voice over his involvment in the Napster affair.
It was something to the effect of "What you mean being considered the most hated man in rock and roll", while responding to a question about his actions.
"But the user interface and other tivo like features are not near as nice, plus the box seems to freeze up every so often (even when not recording)."
After calling them about a dozen times, Comcast finally got off there duff and fixed this on my box. I havent had a freeze in more than 2 weeks. Many users have reported upgrading to the x.15 firmware solved the problem for them. Comcast did leave x.12 on mine but apparantly patched it with a fix. My suggestion is to call them until they fix it.

Just where do you think this whole mc chris thing will go and and how big do you see yourself getting? Do you think the world at large is ready for mc?
Yes the FCC is tasked with providing technical direction to the broadcast community.
The FCC is not (and should not) be tasked with providing technical direction to the consumer manufacturing community.

Im gonna go ahead and chime in calling you an ass for ratting your "friend" out as well.
If he was truely your friend why not try to convince him he was wrong to do what he did? Dont you think he might learn a bit more from that?
Sorry man, I know youve heard this about a dozen times in this thread, but that was a really shitty thing to do...to anyone...friend or foe.

You just gotta wonder: with no new Star Wars movies on the horizon, where will these ppl find good movie lines to stand in?

but who would make a statement as stupid as russians are good at math?
The same kind of people that would make a statement like: "Black people love to eat chicken and watermelon".
I feel ya. I hate over generalizations.
Shuttle technicians quickly called in Tyrone Biggums
to fix the problem.
That should be real easy to enforce.
Oh wait...Patriot Act.
Nevermind.
