    If you look at it's history it has a spectacularly bad record of buying software and technologies for no apparent reason and then selling them at a loss when they don't know what to do with them.

    It's really one of the most badly managed companies around.

    The more they attack linux and open source the more make it legitimate in the eyes of the business users. They will never win that war.

    I suppose they tried ignoring it and it didn't go away so now there are no other options but still.

    My XP used to boot up fast too when I first installed it. These days it can take as long as five minutes to boot and display the desktop icons.

    Come to think of it I guess I haven't re-installed it in about six months now so it's about time to do that.

    Isn't that pretty much in line with windows support? In fact it probably costs less then windows 2003 server and support by a wide margin.

    It's not that big of a headache. Anytime you run into a problem of not being able to ineract with a MS product you ditch the MS product. Eventually you will have systems that work well with everybody including your partners and vendors and you will wonder why you chose to let some vendor make IT decisions for you.

    From the sound of things the turks are no longer enthusiastic about joining the union. They probably have figured out they are not wanted there.

    It seems to me they should make their own union of turkic people with turkey, turkmenistan, azarbaijan, kazakhistan etc. That would have europe and russia shitting bricks.

    OO can save as doc but not one person at MS is smart enough to make word save a document as OO xml.

    Office for mac does not obey any of the mac UI conventions. It looks like ass, it looks like a windows program. What's worse is that it spew umpteen windows on the screen for no good reason at all.

    All and all a sucky program. I am just glad I wasn't suckered into paying for it.

    If a CIO is dumb enough to prevent an application written in lotus 1-2-3 to halt a strategic move that could save the company money then sell your stock in that company now and start looking for a new job if you work there.

    Honestly I think darwinism will sort those companies out. If they are being run by idiots they should be out of business before too long.

    I was told that /usr is an area that can only be counted on to exist when the computer is in multi user mode. That's why you have /bin and /sbin and /usr/bin and /usr/sbin. The former are the base tools you need to get the system going into multi user mode and to mount all the volumes need the latter being all the rest of the programs.

    Maybe it's time for an overhaul of these names but I hope nobody looks to apple and copies their braindead schema.

    In the days you are pining for Randall would have been shot or hanged when he was accused. He would have been railroaded by the sheriff who was owned by the railroad or the bank.

    Ah the good old days when people were hanged the same day they were charged.

    Actually come to think of it in the old days the copper barons and the railroads would have just killed the guy themselves if they thought he was stealing from them.

    I think that's a copout. If updating your product is not dead easy and absolutely 100% safe and undo-able then you can't blame people for being cautious about their updates.

    How many times have you run a windows update and messed something up? Yea me too. That's why I always wait a while before updating windows. I know it's risky but I am damned if I do and damned if I don't.

    One day we had an "emergency" at work. This means nobody could go home and it was all hands on deck while we tried to get the system back up. An hour or so into it I (being the useless manager) decided that I would best help the effort by getting some food for the guys so I went over to a nearby pizza shop. There were four guys there making pizzas while listening to Led Zeppelin cranked up and having a good old time of it. I was thinking to myself "if the pizza machine broke these guys would just go home or to a bar or something, they sure as hell wouldn't stay around till four AM and made sure it was working properly for the next day".

    What's remarkable about this community is their lack of objection to their companies behavior. Clearly people who either agree with how their company behaves or maybe people who don't have a strong moral compass.
