Fight AIDS at home is just such a project.

While I agree that there are factors that prevent this from being used by everyone constantly, large-scale projects can often have a marketing twist put on them, or offer incentives. Additionally, an especially cool geek project would certainly pull a few volunteers. The important part is getting the awareness of the project to the proper audience, as the internet expands, I cant imagine a worthy cause not being able to find volunteers.

  3. XBOX isnt so big in Japan. on Ballmer - Xbox 'Can Take Sony' In Next Generation · · Score: 0

I live in Tokyo, and I havnt seen an Xbox here for a while (not that I have been looking). A few months ago my local convenience store had them in the discount bin for 10,000Yen (less than $100). MS is a big company, but if they cant get a foothold in the japanese console market, they will have a hard time getting good game development, which is what ultimately makes the system.

Its true though, the only way apple stays in business is by convincing the same couple hundred people to throw out their old macs to buy new ones every 6 months, because they look cool or something.

No candidate will do that. You dont reduce government by retrenching it. Cutting down the size of government is a rallying call for the right who like to demonize the left for social programs, but that is simply doublespeak. The right doesnt seem to mind government expenditures and intrusive policies when imposing their morality or deregulating corporate interests, just as the left doesnt mind when they impose political correctness or their kickbacks from special interests.

    Either way, we're screwed.
